True | 25 comments I remember very vague details about this book but I remember there was a college/high school kid who was a friend to dwarves/gnomes. It was something about him that the little fey people trusted. I also remember that maybe his friend or roomie fell in love with one of the gnomes/dwarves. I really wish I could remember more but I can't. :-?

Cheryl (cherylllr) Hm. Let's see if we can pull more clues from secret places in your memory.
Do you have a sense of the cover at all?
Was it a hardcover, maybe? Would you have borrowed it from the library?
Would you have learned about it from a friend, or a teacher, or a store display, or...?
Does your memory give you a sense of whether it was short or long?
Was it light, with a lot of funny stuff, or was it more serious & epic, do you feel?

Do you think it took place in the young man's regular world, or was he somehow transported to a magical world to be with the fey?

Were there other magical beings or magical situations around, even in the background?

Do you remember anything about the adventure, or the point of the story, what was actually happening? Quest, war, saving a princess, saving a sacred glade, coming-of-age, escaping a bad family situation, escaping bullies...?

True | 25 comments The cover: I don't remember it at all. I don't remember if it was a hard or soft cover. I do remember I borrowed it from the library though. I remember I got it from the YA section of the library.

Hmm my recollection of the book was that it was long, but I was younger then. anything over 100 pages was long for me lol.
The book had had an adventure feel to it. I just remember it was centered around protecting these gnomes/dwarves from harm. Something about a library was thrown into the mix. I believe there was a secret door/passage for him to get to their world and back to his own.
I remember that in the end there was a brewing romance between a human and one of the dwarves/gnomes. Where it used to be forbidden but now it was okay?

Cheryl (cherylllr) Well, that's a good bit of information - feel free to bump this every month or two as we all read more books, and the group gets new members.

hum, is it possible that the gnomes/dwarves are "hiding in plain sight" as it were? Possibly pretending to be "just" humans afflicted with dwarfism? There was a trilogy about that time that had that premise. If you think that might be it, I'll see if I can find the books here at my house.

True | 25 comments I dont remember them pretending to be humans with any forms of dwarfism. There was a definite magical type of theme to it. The humans being able to go from the human world to the hidden dwarf world.
But if you know the name of the trilogy you are describing I would love to know. it sounds interesting. Thanks!

@Cheryl thanks a lot for the info!

Sue Elleker | 1053 comments The 'pretending to be humans' sounds like the Borribles trilogy; in the third book the authorities employ dwarves to pretend to be Borribles.

Hum, still looking for the series I was thinking of, but what about this? Gnome Man's Land first book in a trilogy. The series I had originally had in mind is more serious than this one, but this one is pretty funny and DOES have the whole magic thing going on.

True | 25 comments No it wasn't Gnome Man's land. But it sounds like a fun read.
I believe the human guy in the book sort of stumbled upon the dwarves/gnomes. He was trying to protect them for some reason. :/ My memory is horrible lol.

True | 25 comments Because I was an OCD kid I remember taking meticulous notes on what books I read from the library. NOW being the packrat I am I freakin' found the list I made when I was a kid. WHOOO HOO!!!
The book is Mythology 101!!!!! YAYYYY! lol

Cheryl (cherylllr) Mythology 101, for the link.

Ok, now that you have found that list, keep it safe, and come back here often to see if someone else is seeking a book that you wrote down. ;)
