The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Lori, I feel the same way in terms of reading reviews and listening to everyone here vs going by the blurbs. ::snifflesniffle:: Oh, the love.

And you just don't like Mercy because you're sex-mad, you little vixen!

:)

DarkHeart: I think it's ludicrous that authors often don't have input. Yes, sex sells. But I cringe at all these women-in-leather covers. They all look exactly alike. Certainly doesn't sell the book for me, seeing yet another sultry scantily clad woman. The avatar you have from her site would be much quicker to peak my interest. And rock god? Ugh, I know what ya'll mean-sounded cheesy as hell. Maybe if they called him a sexy Goth idol...that would be more intriguing and more accurate!

Kristen Harvey I just finished Wintersmith, which I enjoyed immensely, loving the audiobook version because the accents are just so much funnier hearing than reading.

3. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld, Book 1)

4. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (Alpha & Omega, Book 1)

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments Martina's April Update:

1) Eclipse, Twilight Saga #3 by Stephenie Meyer
2) The Accidental Human, Accidental Friends #3 by Dakota Cassidy - 4/4 - 3 stars - cute but IMO not as good as first two in series.
3) Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand, Kitty Norville #5 by Carrie Vaughn
4) Angels' Blood, Guild Hunter #1 by Nalini Singh - 4/9 - 5 stars! A MUST read for fans of this author or for anyone who likes a new take on their favorite paranormal creatures. Angels, vamps & hunters in particular.
5) Enslave Me Sweetly, Alien Huntress #2 by Gena Showalter - 4/7 - 4 stars - a little more edgy than most of Ms. Showalter's other series & I liked this one better than Book 1 in the series.
6) Lover Unbound, Black Dagger Brotherhood #5 by J.R. Ward - 4/6 - 5 stars - this series continues to rock my world!
7) Shadow Kiss, Vampire Academy #3 by Richelle Mead
8) On the Prowl, Tales of an Urban Werewolf #2 by Karen MacInerney - 4/2 - 4.5 stars - really liked it! Better than first book in series.
9) Stolen, Women of the Otherworld #2 by Kelley Armstrong

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Still haven't finished any books... sheesh! There's not enough hours in the day. Maybe I should quit my job.
I'm making some changes to my list in order to make it easier for me to finish both challenges, and because the library wants some of these back.

1. Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews - I really want to read this, but I own it so it doesn't have a due date, therefore it gets shoved back in line in favor of one I can double up on with the RRRC April challenge. 2-for-1! This is now Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh
2. Claimed by Shadow by Karen Chance
3. Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
4. Dance With The Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I am never going to finish the book before this, let alone ever get to this one and I have a feeling I'll get just as bogged down in this one. So it has been replaced with Ill Wind by Rachel Caine
5. Deadly Desire by Keri Arthur
6. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
7. The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter
8. Faefever by Karen Marie Moning - The library wants this book back! So I'm replacing it with Vulnerable by Amy Lane, which I just got in the mail today.
9. Witch Blood by Anya Bast

Lori- I haven't read the Mercy series, but I think I have the same problem with the Anita Blake series, for the same reason. Jean Claude is obviously hot and he obviously wants you. What's the problem? Just because you're a vampire slayer you can't have a little fun with a hottie? I mean the book is fun and I'm not having any trouble reading it, but I guess I just like PNR and have a hard time getting into UF.

Oh Lori...just wait girlfriend...she's gonna have some fun with Jean Claude...lots and lots of fun. This series starts out one way and then through Anita's metamorphosis, changes dramatically. It's one of my favorite series of all time and I didn't really like the first book all that much. I kept reading though and each book took me closer and closer to what I love about this series. There are strong opinions here and on other sites about the way things progress and change throughout the books. You have to just read them and decide for yourself if it's your cuppa or not. They get so HOT you're gonna need a pair of asbestos panties :)

LOVED Wages of Sin by Jenna Maclaine, the character of Cin was wonderful and fun. I do remember that in the book The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance (Mammoth Book of) (Mammoth Book of) by Trisha Telep is a short story called The Righteous by Jenna Maclaine which is about the years leading up to the novel Wages of Sin. I think I will buy book two very soon cause I want to know what happens next to Cin and The Righteous.

Diane--I agree. Cin is a REAL kick A heroine. I found the story wwaaayyyyy back when Jenna was pretty much self publishing it. So I've been waiting about 3 years for this series to finally make it with a "real" publisher so that the rest of the story could get published. I did order the new printing of it, just to show my support and to further encourage the publisher. Sigh a GREAT first story, which is not something that you can always say about newbie authors.

2. Kitty Raises Hell by Carrie Vaughn (Kitty the Werewolf # 6) *** 4/7/09
3. Wanderlust by Ann Aguirre (Jax #2)

6. Night Huntress by Yasmine Galenorn (#5 in the Fae Sisters)

8. Echoes in the Dark by Robin D. Owens (#5 of Lladrana series) ***4/6/09
9. Duainfey by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller *** 4/7/09

Okay, so I couldn't remember the "Kitty" title as anything but "Kitty Goes to Hell" and wasn't sure I wanted to read about Kitty the Werewolf going to hell, because I was pretty sure it would be literal, and hell isn't a place I'd like to go--but it's NOT the title. She just Raises hell--which could be literal... But isn't. There's a demon in it. And it's good. And I liked it.

I wasn't sure how much I liked Duainfey. I think I liked it more than just "okay" (which is my 2-star rating), so I gave it 3 stars. It's really dark and Fey-ish, where the Fey are tricksy and cruel.

Which is why I didn't like Ink Exchange as much as I liked Wicked Lovely. It was mean. I'll probably read the 3rd book in the series though.

Besides Kitty and Duainfey, I also read some non-PNR challenge books: Scandal by Carolyn Jewel, The Wicked Ways of a True Hero by Barbara Metzger, The Moretti Heir by Katherine Garbera, and Bargained Into Her Boss's Bed by Emilie Rose. I alternated. One PNR, one other. So I've read 9 books, just not all on my list.

I can't find where my printed out list is. People cleaned up my desk. The bad part is that I had sticky notes with the books I wanted to read stuck all over it...

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Finished The Nymphos of Rocky Flats last night. Turns out Acevedo just isn't an author for me. The book wasn't bad, I just don't feel at all compelled to read any more of Felix' adventures. I still contend he has great covers and titles though. =)

Now, back to work on costumes. Hopefully when we get them all finished I can force Oz to take pictures. (Twisting Oz's arm long distance) lol, since she's a SERIOUS shutter bug, getting her to STOP taking pictures is usually the problem. But we'll get some pictures taken and post a link so you guys and see our work. :o)

Michelle | 79 comments OK so I don't know HOW I'm going to finish this month's challenge. It's dangerous to pick up the first book of 9 new authors. Instead of finishing the challenge I want to finish the rest of Kresley Cole and Jacquelyn Franks series. I want to read them in order now! Oh geez!

ok, this book is off topic, but its one that I really feel I have to recommend. ITs Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett. This book is especially good for the chocoholics among us. The "heroes" of the book save the world by using that super powerful weapon--CHOCOLATE. Hey, I've always thought that chocolate was the most powerful force in the universe, haven't the rest of you?

It sure seems to wield a lot of control over me.
