Dang Ijeoma, as gay man who can appreciate feminine beauty without being sexist I say damn you look gorgeous even in your priestly garb including clerical collar.

Thank you for the links and for being so active in fighting for our gay family in Nigeria.

Hugs, Lucas

Anil (loykalina) | 303 comments Thank you guys. There are claims that the police fire tear gas at houses, boats and wherever wounded protestors are taken to be treated. It has become a state terror. Please, send e-mails to your local representatives or make calls as well as flooding Turkish embassies and consulates wherever you live with e-mails and calls. Also, please ask your friends to do the same.

Over 30k signed. I don't understand the extremes of the state-sponsored violence. This is horrible. And all about citizens wanting to protect greenspace? It just doesn't make sense. But, then, there's a lot going on in the world that just doesn't make sense. Be well, Anil. (I keep thinking what I would do if I were abroad and this was happening in Denver. Wow...)

message 3611: by Anil (new)

Anil (loykalina) | 303 comments George, it is not on protecting greenspace anymore. It is against the recent governmental policies--that they will do whatever they want no matter what others say--and excessive force use of the police even in the most peaceful demonstrations. The PM himself provocates people.

Ije l read your article and l thought it was beautifully done. It really bothers me when religion is used as a reason to justify discrimination but it's lovely to see that it doesn't have to be that way. I wish that more people (whether religious or not) showed as much compassion as you obviously do.

I can't imagine how awful it must be to live in fear of imprisonment just because your normal lifestyle is deemed a crime. Even more so in an age when we are suppsedly deemed to be more enlightened and civilised. Rev Ijeoma I think you are a wonderful lady, not just for becoming a lady priest which is awesome and a great step for females in a male dominated institution but for fighting a cause that isn't "sexy "news fodder and doesn't get the airtime that it should to bring it to the fore and notice of the general public. This Nigerian bill is frightening and the Ugandan anti - homosexuality Bill that would have sanctioned the Death penalty for gays was even more unbelievable and shocking to the core.I truly admire you so much for your unbending faith and extremely caring nature. And as Tweetaway Queen you rocked! Lol. I'm very proud to call you my friend and hope one day we'll meet face to face for a proper big grumpy hug! :) As our lovely not so dumb jock said thanks for the links. A great interview and fab to put a voice to the face. Ending on a purely female and girly moment and nothing at all to do with the original discussion........ LOVE your hair!

Anil I hope the petition reaches the numbers it needs but more than that I pray that the government takes note and realises that this form of violence is intolerable and should be stopped. Will they listen and act on it.... I truly hope so.

Tj (bluesmokey) | 632 comments I'm exhausted. This weekend hubby had a 4 day and all I've done is run. Houston on Friday, yesterday San Antonio, today I was home but took care of grandbaby (he is getting big and busy!), and tomorrow it's to Katy. Then hubby is back to work for 10 days and off for vacation. Exhausting!

Beautiful talk, and you are right, of course, the bible should not be used as a weapon, unless you want to use it to knock someone in the head. Like, to knock some sense into someone. But I suppose that's not the best use of a good book.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 14524 comments You guys are so wonderful and so supportive and encouraging. Thank you.

I am at work. My main job is in the Mayor of London's Office working on various policy issues. The work is ok, but the people here try my patience and have done for years, so I dont really want to be sitting here right now. I am juggling all that I do with funeral arrangements for my mum. Thank fully my two churches and my friends have been loving and supportive and all of you have been so as well.

Reading all your comments has brought a smile to my face especially Sarah's suggestion of lobbing the bible at people to knock sense into them. I think it would be a most effective strategy :) but might get me arrested :)

I feel encouraged by all of you. It is quite hard to hold down a full time job and then work in the church and then join in with others to work for LGBT human rights and its a really difficult issue, but your loving encouragement makes me feel I shouldnt give up and I have a big smile on my face this morning which will see me through the day.

Much love and thanks to you all.

Goesta Ije the TweetAway Queen wrote: "...Sarah's suggestion of lobbing the bible at people to knock sense into them."

Despite my avowed agnosticism (or maybe closeted pantheism?) this reminded me of a dialogue that got writ, I condense:

I don’t understand a word you’re saying.

That’s always been an issue. Words do get tossed around so. Bent, twisted, broken. Generally over other people’s heads. Until you don’t recognize them anymore. The heads, or the words. Mine, especially.

So some words are yours and some aren’t. Naturally. And we’re supposed to be able to tell the difference. Google 'Are These His Words Or Someone Else’s?'

I meant Mine, singular. I only have One.

(Wonder what that Word could be...)

Goesta Whilst I would generally hold forth presently, and in a whiny and supercilious tone, about the importance of grammar and rhetoric (if not punctuation, which is not my forte), for one (or indeed many) to be taken seriously when making public declarations, demanding change or speaking truth to power...

Oh, whatever. Horrible text, good intention. Hope it'll do something.

Goesta Lewd veggies, too easy. I tend to feel about fruit like this guy seems to (painting by Richard Taddei).

Unless they're delivered like this (from the Derek Jarman movie).

But y'all know how I like 'em, which is just sooo annoying. (Yeah I know, probably the one minute in his life that Dexter Fletcher, I think that is, looked good enough to eat, beats me how).

As is being able to flaunt the rules with ye olde banana peel trick...

Though I admit these had me running for the hills just as fast as those two:

I'll have you know my formatter sounds like the most together, sensible genius among the lovely woolly lot of you! I feel I'm in most excellent hands, even if they must be, for this procedure, other-gendered.

I also don't mean to sound horribly shallow about Mr. Fletcher who I'm sure is amazing and talented and, in his own grizzled way (like me) beautiful now. I share the affliction, I was irresistibly attractive for about two minutes in my youth, unfortunately, I was alone in the woods at the time, not on camera.
