30 Square miles of Moore has been devastated.
The tornado has killed at least 51 people -- with about 40 more bodies expected to arrive at the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office, Amy Elliott of the coroner's office said. The official death toll will gradually rise as the bodies are processed.

At least 20 of those killed were children.

message 3205: by Macky (new)

Macky (mactut) Oh this is horrible. The terrible losses are heartbreaking. My heart goes out to all those suffering, and to have taken so many people's lives including all those children is incomprehensible. So sad.

message 3206: by [deleted user] (new)

It is so scary with the tornado and all the destruction, so sad to hear that so many have died and been injured.

My prayers and thoughts go out to all the families.

Kendra (book_lover_too) | 337 comments Sometimes Mother Nature is so scary!

I am so upset right now for my sister-in-law :-( She is 7 months pregnant and her dog is very sick with blastomycosis (a fungal infection that can affect the lungs, can be hard to treat and is VERY expensive to treat). Her husband is a pilot and isn't expected to be home until tonight, the vet says dog will probably have to be put down even if they attempt to treat because it seems to be an advanced case. I am "on call" for her today so that if she needs anything/anyone I can be there but I still feel like I should be doing more, especially with her being pregnant.

Pets can become family members and become so loved the loss of the pet can be as traumatic as the loss of any loved one. I am sorry for your sister-in-law and her pilot as they face a very emotional time. I'm sure the baby will soon bring them much comfort.

Thai 4 votes, 10.0%

Macky (mactut) I'm disgruntled because Karo is going to catch a terrible cold if he continues to leave his chest bare like that. The only syrup he'll need is cough syrup and I'll just have to rub that hard muscled chest with Vicks vapour rub! It will be a terribly hard job but I'll sacrifice my time to do it. message 3218: by [deleted user] (new)

I am complaining that I am in a lot of pain and have pain throughout the body, could not sleep until late yesterday time was two in the morning, woke up with pain that is unbearable to deal with and no appetite. The weather is miserable, rain and cold.

I'd just got over my cold and now this, I hate days like these.

Feel like I have a fever and dizzy, I have to go through one week even as MRI, then 14 days, and a final decision on new biological medicine.

Feels like a long time when you have pain and swollen neck, arm, shoulder, etc. I am so tired and in a miserable mood.

Although I forgot to DSP giveaway this feels like small things, I just buy the book and can not even be angry that I forgot this.

So little energy I have today that I have no energy to get angry.

I'm just so tired that I want to cry and this I have not the energy to do either, tired and sad.

:-( :-( :-(

I regret to inform you that I have received some help here in the Complaint Department (finally!) I can now get more time at the gym. Yay!

Preston will be handling the behind the scenes technical aspects of pulling levers, pushing buttons, and turning the knobs to keep the place running mechanically.

Boyd will not be doing anything. He was just added as eye candy to show off his gorgeous green eyes, rosy cheeks (only the ones on your face Boyd!) curly locks of pretty, rich auburn hair (the curls on your head only Boyd!) his awesome abs and powerful pecs.

Macky with her great empathy and amazing humor despite having reasons of her own to complain, is now our moderator, director of consolation, manager of good cheer and most beloved leader. There wasn't room for all that in one title on the moderator section here so you can see on our Home Page she is our primary moderator.

I remain, as always, your dumb jock—Lucas

PS: Try out the new story "game" the Everwending Story which seems to be going along very nicely. At each turn players add 3-4 words to the story and the story wends its way everywhere forever.

I call on all Brits to demand a second reading of the new legislation in the House of Lords. That way we may gum up the time for them to debate the new gay marriage legislation out of order!

ps: But thanks for joining in the Everwending Story cause it's nice to have famous writers add to the story.

Macky (mactut) I really want to complain that now Ive been made a moderator I will have to do everything wrong so that you can all complain bitterly about how absolutely dumb I am. In fact I must have been dumb to agree to be one so that our not so dumb jock can now spend hours in the gym squatting and thrusting whist honing his lovely sporty Lucas bod! Perhaps if I buy a baseball cap , wear it back to front and say things like " Hey Dudes! I was just walking on the sidewalk, looking for a gas station, when I found a purse just outside an elevator "you might never realise that it isn't actually him but an odd old British broad with a weird sense of humour?! Yes this is my cunning plan and I'm sticking to it. Can I claim the Neverwending story was my idea so you'll all think I'm brilliant and innovative ... If you don't complain about me I will "hug" you all to death and bombard you all with aggravating limericks and wacky Mackyisms that will have you rolling your eyes and running for the hills. Be afraid , be very afraid......

message 3233: by [deleted user] (new)

New titels, but hopefully you are the same as always :-) *smile*

Now our dear Lucas have more time for gym :-)

I will complain that Macky never did tell me anything about her new titel, but now we all know thanks to our dumb jock—Lucas hehehe

Feeling now I can handle the pain a little better after some sleep, but is still unbearable, finally get some food down the first meal today. The only good thing about it is that I am losing weight, but would rather lose weight without pain.

I really need to read further in Macky, Goesta stories LOVE to read that. Lucas I am confused with all this games *sigh* need more energy to do that.

Happy to see that Macky is in a good mood :-)

Hint: For variety consider starting your complaint with I am miffed, annoyed, irritated, displeased, aggrieved, nettled, hurt, offended, put out, resentful, upset, vexed, irked, disgruntled, chagrined, piqued, in a huff, peeved, cheesed off, narked, irritated, P.O.’d, enraged, etc.

If you wish to say something positive when posting a comment use something like "I am really annoyed that I can not tell you how wonderful Lucas Lyons is considering he's a dumb jock.

2. This is an open group so there are not any age restrictions, therefore there can be no use of profanity (especially those 4 letter words—you know which ones) and no photos that show naked men below the waist.

3. Don't complain about or criticize other members or their comments. Nevertheless you may criticize the moderator.

4. The first person to notice this phony rule and send me a message about it will win an ebook of Roger Kean's 131,850 word romance-adventure A Life Apart

4. Straight, gay and people of all sexual orientations are welcome and intolerance will not be tolerated.

5. Feel free to complain about the rules.

Thereat I snarkily scoff that those among us with sufficient cranial capacity have long ago memorized said rules (in a manner similarly recommended say, for learning to drive, or walk and chew gum), apart from having been incessantly reminded of them by a previously vigilant, now thankfully and sweatily otherwise preoccupied, former moderator, and therefore have had no need to review them with any great frequency. Though I must at the same time confess to feeling rather stupid having assumed that said formerly ubiquitous rules-obsessed imp wouldn't pull something like this, and irritatingly pleased that Anya now owns this marvellous book. Congrumpulations.

Macky (mactut) Pshaw! What's the world coming to when a sneaky competition is snuck into group rules which we all know and don't read much because we think we know them so well even though we blatantly tend to ignore poor old rule one which I will now as prime moderator - * giggles and * snorts* - remind everyone about in my my most serious and moderatory way - * giggles and snorts again *. Actually I'm miffed because it was under my nose all the time and now Im harrumphing because in that 30 days I went and actually bought with my hard earned cash, Rogers absolutely fantastic, rip roaring adventure with poignant love story, book. ( you can tack another on quid on the cheque Roger ) When in fact I could have had it for free! Tut tut!

How fantastic awful that Anya won it. I hope she gets as much enjoyment annoyance from it as everyone who's read the masterpiece mediocre story. Congrats and hugs Anya !

message 3242: by Anil (new)

Anil (loykalina) | 303 comments I am furious with the bloody university. They have no frigging direct link on their website to enable applicants to check their applications and the status of their applications, but either you have to go through "apply now" page, which in return ends up making you an application that you don't want to, or you have to find the very first page or password recovery e-mails and use the link provided there. I had a reply from the university two days ago that my application, which I DID NOT intend to do was refused because of the new regulations, but they HAVE NOT made up their mind about my original application, YET. That original application would exempt me from the new regulations, which does not allow you to apply for another degree at the same level. I sent a lengthy e-mail two days ago the mistake they made and hinted their unprofessional manner.

I will send an e-mail to the dean/rector/whatever of the university if I don't hear from them till midnight and make an official complaint about their unprofessional attitude. I wouldn't mind not being offered a place three months ago, but I won't accept any answer that they will offer me a place immediately and solve any problems that will probably occur between my scholarship provider and me as well as the visa procedure. I don't care if I should wait for 5 working days to hear from them before contacting again. I have waited too long.

I admit I applied a little bit late, but I received an e-mail from an officer which requested me to submit several documents so that they would continue the consideration process. I sent them just in time. I quoted the frigging unique student identity number and quoted my full name as I was told to do so. So, they have no excuse on that matter. I also received a confirmation e-mail that acknowledged receiving my documents. If I had made a mistake and sent a wrong document, they hadn't told me so. I could have provided the correct one immediately. I sent an another e-mail asking whether the decision-making process was ongoing. I received another confirmation e-mail. Yet, there has been no reply.

I contacted with someone from the uni and explained her the situation, she said my application that hasn't been made a decision on yet would have been too late and the Admission officer would have considered for the following academic year. I did check the e-mail that bloody, sorry for cursing, officer sent me, but there is NOTHING suggesting me that he considered it for the next academic year, which makes my application valid for this academic year. Also, that officer CANNOT and SHOULD NOT assume anything on my behalf WITHOUT asking me first.

I have been extremely stressed out. I had been subjected to unprofessional manner before, but not that extreme.

I think I will take it to ombudsman and probably court for causing me extreme anxiety and financial loss, because I had to pay rent for the room so as to keep it in case I return.

I don't care if anyone loses their jobs or is fined, because they do not do their jobs which they are supposed to do.

Sorry for this long rant, but I can't sleep properly, I can't enjoy reading books or listening to music, because of this unfortunate events.

message 3243: by Macky (new)

Macky (mactut) I'm lodging a serious complaint for Anil. The way hes being messed about by the university is really unfair so no wonder he feels stressed. I hope that being able to at least vent some of that frustration here helps him to let of some steam. About time he was given some clear and concise information that will let him know exactly what the outcome will be without going round in circles, leaving him unsure of his future. Good luck Anil I hope these "Red Tape" idiots get their finger out and sort this out in a far more professional way. Big Grrrrrrrrr as Helle would say. Support and hugs coming your way love!

Ije the Devourer of Books | 14524 comments Sorry to hear about all these difficulties Anil. They sound utterly useless and ineffective. I think it might be better to phone them and get the name of the officer you speak to. People ignore emails and they find it very easy to do so. I have a boss and colleagues who ignore emails when it suits them.

Keep chasing!! Don't give up!!

hope that it will all get sorted soon. Hang on in there!!

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I'm appalled that Anya will now be fully exposed to the delights extreme filth of A Life Apart, which includes all manner of amazingly wonderful horrible events, and all because she fell for Dumb Jock's nitty-gritty rules.

On a more serious note, I'm sad that Anil has to put up with the inefficiency of the British university administration. It reflects badly on us all. Keep at it, Anil.

justanya Well I'm thoroughly irritated with Lucas. I wash my hands of him! He really Needs to work on his very small neon sign pointing towards rule #4 in teeny tiny print! He could have at least underlined the rule, perhaps type it in bold black print but no, you need a magnifying glass since this rule doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.... I felt ten feet tall, and not in the least bit sheepish driving our tyrant moderator bananas... Managing  sanepeople like me is a part-time job that's why our underworked Lucas has taken on the extra deadweight no  help what so ever the likes of the super unattractive Boyd (who unkindly stuck his oar in to help)  the not so clever Macky and the not so mysterious looking Preston. Don't worry, my quest to drive them all to drink heavily will be successful one day.

I'm so not looking forward to reading Mr. Kean's work,  nope not in the least bit gleeful to devour every page of this expensive book. And if he thinks I'm jumping for joy and grinning like a loon then he better think again because I so am not!  I'm not imagining my head assuming the shape of a jack ass every time I look in the mirror nope. My cheeks aren't red with uber embarrassment that I read rule #4 like 10x and thought: I should email Lucas about rule 4 but meh, he doesn't care... even though the rule clearly states to email him.  yep, I'm saner than the Mad- Hatter.

Seriously though, just in case I botched the whole thing, thank you all for your patience and kindness. Lucas, you truly have the patience of a Saint. *hugs*

Anil Sweetheart I do not envy you a bit. It's frustrating dealing with ineptitude. As I read what you wrote a couple thoughts came to mind. I'm wondering if the emails are automatically generated? I think they are and if so, your best bet would be (if you haven't already done so) is to print out the lengthy email you wrote and send it certified mail to the Administative Officer ( put that person's name on it). I would also cite ( if you have it) the names of university officials, the date and time when you conversed with them and what they told you they would do to help resolve your dilemma. It isn't much but hopefully the Administrative Office will actually take the time to do his/ her job.
When multiple people are used to address one person's issue, nothing rarely gets done. You fall through the cracks. Don't give them that opportunity of passing the blame on to a non existent shadow. It's frustrating but don't drive yourself crazy. Hopefully after reading your letter, the Administrative officer will help you to start on time.
*hugs*
Anya

message 3248: by Goesta (new)

Goesta I wish snippishly to refuse to add to the chorus of disapproval against Anil's unnamed British university. Though I may be mistaken and have been known to be a jumping-up-and-down-pain-in-the-buttocks in academic circles, in my experience nothing gets done in academia unless you jump up and down and behave like an embarrassing pain in the buttocks, whether you are a student or a teacher. There appears to be moreover a hallowed rule of thumb strictly followed by university employees, that response to emails in optional and, if it occurs at all, takes twice as long as a message by donkey cart. Rules regarding application procedures and enrollment are followed, bent, ignored, broken, misrepresented, -interpreted and -understood with an arbitrariness that would give our moderator emeritus heart-stopping night-sweats. Though these people share with him the aberrant gene that they are wickedly delighted by the fact that no one knows exactly what the rules are and why they exist in the first place, while everyone insists that they are as important as breathing (they're not, surprise). One of these universal guidelines is that student applicants be made to collect obscure information and paperwork that no one cares about, simply to prove how badly they want to be admitted.

Seriously, the dean of the school might not give a rat's behind, but the dean of your faculty probably does. Contact him or her directly by email, in which you clearly lay out your plight (their brains only work properly with written information, verbal details pass right through, since they'll be thinking of something else entirely while they politely nod at you), but follow it up in a few hours with a phone call. Follow the same procedure with the head of admissions. Just my 2 cents.

message 3249: by Danni (new)

Danni | 248 comments I wish to complain about Anil's poor treatment by the university, and wish that he gets everything sorted out.

I'm also cross that Helle has been in pain and I'm sending a hug to her whether she likes it or not.

I am ashamed of myself for not having frequented the Complaints Department much recently and for missing out on all the gossip, as well as the new appointment of various people in positions of power. I doff my cap to them.

I wish to make a very serious complaint about the gay marriage debate after something I found out today at school. I was sitting with a group of 5 year olds who were having the usual conversation about who they were going to marry, and one little girl was adamant that she would marry a girl when she was older. There was a bit of discussion about this with people telling her that she couldn't. So the little girl said "Mrs Keane, girls can marry girls, and boys can marry boys, can't they?" To which I replied, "Yes, they certainly can." There was a bit more discussion (most of the girls were quite pleased with this idea because they could marry their best friend. The boys in general weren't quite so sure.) And then, just to end the discussion, one little girl piped up "Yes, boys can marry boys, but they definitely don't kiss each other!"

So, I wish to complain that there is obviously not enough gay kissing going on in the world, and I demand more!

message 3250: by Macky (new)

Macky (mactut) I'm terribly gripey because I think its awesome dreadful that kids at so young an age can discuss boys kissing boys and girls kissing girls and getting married to someone the same sex in such an open and enquiring way... of course it would be fabulous terrible if all the schools had a " Mrs keane" to teach their children!

In fact Danni could take her lovely little boys and girls to all the stuffy politicians who think they need to debate the gay marriage issue, listen to the innocent wisdom of the kids and then perhaps they'd see how dumb the whole fiasco is and just pass all the legislations to allow same sex marriage. then the world could celebrate with " Gay Kissing Day". In fact I would say say LSFGR......... " Let's Snog For Gay Rights"!!
