I did not get to complete the last challenge, though I have the ones previous to that but I will give it a go again and maybe this time I'll get through it. I have enjoyed reading through the lists that have put up and I have pinched some of the ideas so thanks. Here is my list.

Thanks Brenda. I'm a few chapters in and it seems ok so far. I have to finish it, regardless, as it's also for book club and I have a rule that I will always read the month's choice whether I'm liking it or not. It's probably the only time I persevere with a book I don't necessarily like. Fortunately there haven't been many bad ones.

I was just wondering how many others abandon books they aren't enjoying. I'm a quarter of the way through Hannah and Emil and finding it awkward and dull, but I feel like I should finish it!

I tend to force myself while repeating, "It will get better. It WILL get better." over and over until I finish it. If that doesn't work, I tend to put it down when it finally annoys me enough to consider wanton destruction.

I also really hated The Alchemist so I knew that I wouldn't like it. It was pretty much the only book I had that had an autumn-y cover though.

After getting distracted and reading three other books because Behind Enemy Lines ended with a cliff-hanger, I have finished two books, bringing my total to four:

ANZAC Day: John Simpson Kirkpatrick by Allan Drummond

I can't find this book here, but I found it a quite good read. The style of writing is aiming for high school children -- but having said that, I still found it a good read. The author did well to draw some comparisons between his father Bill and John Kirkpatrick, and I also found the chapter that talked about John Simpson 'the legend' versus 'the man' to be quite enlightening. 4 stars.

Hi Elaine, who chooses the book of the month at your book club and do you buy the books or borrow them from a library. I am in a book club too that is associated with our local library and some of the books we have read so far have not been all that great a read but most have been good for discussion.

Hi Bronwyn...we usually take it in turns alphabetically to choose a book. There are nine of us in the group at the moment so everyone is guaranteed a turn. We usually take a break Dec/Jan.Some of us buy the books and some borrow. It just depends.It's a lot of fun and it's the same with us some books are just awful, whereas others are amazing. It's always interesting though getting 9 different viewpoints.
