Okay, does anyone else think that James Dashner could possibly have given the characters some better names? I mea, most of the boys in the Glades' names were awesome, but they seemed kind of plain to me...Thomas? Jorge? Brenda? I'm not trying to offend the book because it is practically my favorite series in the whole world, but what would you call the characters if you got to name them?

I dont think those were their real names, I think the boys in the Glade were named for someone who contributed to our world before the Flare thingy. Like, Thomas was named after Thomas Jefferson, Al was after Albert Einstein, etc.
Well, i think so...

Karon, I know the whole deal with them being named after famous thinkers and such, I just meant what would YOU call them if you got to choose?
Sometimes one needs to realize that we do not pick our own names, and some parents do not realize that some names are no-no's. Also, with consideration, these people were chosen and adapted by freaking scientist-like people who know nothing about what's hip or not. I think the names give more realism to the story rather than detract from it. And how do we know what names are good or cool if there isn't also names that aren't. Also, that doesn't mean the characters won't perhaps decide to change their names later...
BUT of I were to choose names, they would be really weird and usually mean something significant and hidden to the story line which may or may not be revealed :) Like looking up the meaning of Umbra in Greek means Shadow.

I would call them Thomas, Jorge, and Brenda. Also Newt and Chuck and Minho and Gally and Frypan and Winston and Alby. And Ben. That's what I'd name them.
