What are you reading? July 2015

Hello and welcome! I hope everyone is enjoying the perfecto reading weather we're having at the moment.

I just finished a brand new book The Reader on the 6.27. It is by French author Jean-Paul Didierlaurent and is actually just delightful. It is sweet and funny, a little bit silly, and has some very unexpected language and situations. It is a book about books and texts and the people who love them. I went into this book knowing very little and it was a very pleasant surprise. I highly recommend! (It's available at the library if you're interested and it now also has a shiny Librarian's Choice sticker as well. It was THAT GOOD.)

Now I've just started Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny, the autobiography of former Playboy playmate Holly Madison. This is not my usual fare but it was recommended to me by a friend. I am not loving it so far but it is an easy and light read which I'm hoping to knock off quickly so I can start something else!

Has anyone else got a good book at the moment?

I'm halfway through Middlesex and really enjoying it. I also picked up A Man Called Ove from the library on the weekend for a group read. I dislike the main character but it seems like it's a fairly light read so will probably not matter much.

I'm looking forward to the DCM bookfair this weekend though! It's the weekend of the year that I stock up on heaps of bargain books! Check it out below :)

I'm currently reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods. I love the lilt of the words and the imagery in the text but the plot and characters are a bit bland in my opinion.

I got a copy of James Ellroy's My Dark Places which I'll tackle next.

I've just finished American Gods. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Neverwhere, or The Graveyard. Still good though...

I really enjoyed his Sandman series but I haven't read any of his other work. The Graveyard Book sounds fascinating might give it go. Cheers for the recommendation. Did you see they are adapting American Gods into a T.V. series?

I've not read any Neil Gaiman. Might have to check it out. July was a fairly good reading month for me. I got through:
At Home: A short history of private life
Middlesex
A Man Called Ove
The diving-bell and the butterfly which I picked up at the DCM book fair
The Man in the Brown Suit - my first Agatha Christie.

I've just started The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. He's a new to me author.

I've heard good things about Franzen. I have a copy of Freedom but haven't found the time to read it yet.

I have just picked up 'The Day we Met' from the library. Looking forward to getting into a book again.

Who's the author of that one Darrell-marie? There seems to be a few books with the same name :) Hope you enjoy it.
