Lynda | 836 comments I finished Little Fuzzy on my way home from work today. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. I liked it, it's kind of a straight-up heroic novel in the sense that there is a good vs bad narrative, with a clear victory in the end. It's rare for me to read something that isn't all shaded in gray (because I prefer not to see the world as black or white). I doubt though, I'll finish the rest of the series. I had a lot of anxiety that something would happen to Little Fuzzy or his family, and I don't do well with that kind of violence against innocence.

I'll start The Strain on audio, now that I've finished LF.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Shattered, My Ántonia, and Something Wicked This Way Comes and am still reading The Passage and The Girl in the Spider's Web. I started Dracula too.

message 803: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'm reading Dracula. I'm only 4% into it, though. Planning to focus in it this weekend.
Regarding children's literature for my blog, I'm reading Welcome to Monstrovia, Lilliput and Bridge to Terabithia.

Jackie | 57 comments I've just finished The Importance of Being Kennedy by Laurie Graham. It's a work of fiction but based on fact, written from the view point of the nanny to the Kennedy children. Didn't know too much about the Kennedys other than JFK so I found it entertaining as well as interesting as it made me look a few things up. They're quite a family...

I'm going to start The Pocket Wife by Susan Crawford today.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Reading both The Exorcist and the latest Mistborn installment Shadows of Self. The problem is not just devouring the Sanderson novel. It is good to be reading two books forcing myself to have some restraint or else I would fly through Shadows of Self so fast it would end too soon then I have to wait for the next Sanderson release thinking why did I go so fast with the last one. Altgough I could juat re read the entire mistborn series again. Not a bad idea actually

Bridge to Terabithia was one of my favorite books when I was a kid.

I'm 45% into it and enjoying it a lot. I don't know why I didn't read it before!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm going to start The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I feel like I need to read a book I'm really in the mood for, and I think this is it.

message 812: by Joan (last edited Oct 11, 2015 08:17PM) (new)

Joan Soon I will be starting From the Ground Up: Agility Foundation Training for Puppies and Beginner Dogs
I understand it is a good starter book for agility and playing with a dog.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Thank you, Joan. It is on my TBR list. Hopefully I will get to read it some day. I have been to Montana many times. One of my grandsons lives just outside Helena.

message 816: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I started The House Girl for the cryptogram challenge. I've always been so drawn in by the cover.

The House Girl by Tara Conklin

message 817: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (ct_hughes55) | 96 comments I have been away for far too long but I have had a rough go at things outside of books for a few weeks now. I finally finished Silver Shadows which was book 5 in a series I should be able to finish by the end of the year.

Now I am reading The Unbearable Book Club for Unsinkable Girls and while I just started I am really liking it so far. It's the book for Delaware on my 50 States of Young Adult Fiction list.

message 818: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished reading Sweetheart Friday and can say I loved it. I can't wait to get my hands on the next in the series. All of the characters are just so effed up in different ways I want to know more about them.

I started The Last Encore as filler for before the toppler starts. I'm not very far into it but I'm beginning to get intrigued. The first couple chapters almost made me put it down, but I think that is just because I wasn't really in a reading mood this weekend.

I'm also working on Dracula and have been pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying it.

message 819: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished Lover Unbound and started Outlander on audiobook. Both were "next on the list", but also work out for the serial killer challenge.

I'll be starting Inamorata on ebook as a filler between now and the toppler.

message 820: by Lynda (last edited Oct 12, 2015 07:41PM) (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I've less than 100 pages of The Girl Who Played with Fire and I'm liking it more than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I think it's an expectations game...everyone had hyped up Dragon Tattoo, so I went in to Fire with lowered expectations.

I also took care of some comics, but am holding off on finishing Locke & Key until next weekend, due to managing points for the serial killer challenge. Also, I kind don't want it to end.

I also started Y: The Last Man, Vol. 1: Unmanned.

message 821: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I really liked Y. Lynda. Just been the cost, can't even get a low priced ised copy so far that has kept me from continuing the series

message 822: by Mary Beth (last edited Oct 13, 2015 04:00PM) (new)

Mary Beth I am readingFractured by Karin Slaughter.

message 823: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I agree Lynda - I don't want the Locke & Key series to end either. It's fantastic. I'm just starting volume 5. I have ordered a couple Alan Moore graphic novels for afterwards - Watchmen and V for Vendetta and I'm going to start on Gaiman's Sandman series too after that. Oh and King's Dark Tower series. These are great to read when you don't have huge amounts of time or are really tired - that's when I'm reading them anyway.

message 824: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have a few books on the go right now. Normally I don't read more than one at a time, but my kindle died on the plane. My mom lent me Heaven is for Real A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo . I'm really really liking this book! I'm almost done with it. The story flows well. I saw the movie a while back and loved it :)
I'm also reading The Warrior by Joyce Swann . It is also a great book so far and flows well. I started The Watchman (Joe Pike, #1) by Robert Crais before we left out of town and it also a good book so far :) 3/3 for good flowing stories :)

Lynda | 836 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "I really liked Y. Lynda. Just been the cost, can't even get a low priced ised copy so far that has kept me from continuing the series"

Totally agree, I was going broke on comics, until someone kindly suggested I look into the library for them. That's where I'm getting 95% of them. Right now the only series I'm committing myself to purchasing is Saga, Volume 1. I've yet to read anything from Brian K Vaughan that hasn't been great.

@Sarah, I really liked Watchmen. It's the first time I read a graphic novel as a "grownup" and was like, I'm totally into this. V and Sandman are on my TBR. I think I'm going to get through the American Gods series before tackling Sandman, though. You're right, they are perfect for reading when you don't have a lot of time. It's mostly what I read on the weekends.

The link you have is to the one written by Dani Atkins. The one by Karin Slaughter looks much more interesting. :)

I was wondering about Saga as it keeps popping up in my recommendations.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Gracekeepers for the Cryptogram challenge. This is the second book by Kirsty Logan that I have read this month and yet another that I have enjoyed. I thought it was beautifully written, I really liked the two main characters and I enjoyed the elements of Scottish folklore that were woven in. I did find it a bit slow to get going though so I rated it 4 stars in the end.

Oh, no, I mean the novel series...sorry to start rumors! Saga is really good; it's one of the few series that I'm willing to pay money for.

Stephanie Sandra wrote: "I agree, Stephanie.

I have definitely read a lot with the POV from the dog :) I love A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron and the follow up book A Dog's Journey (A Dog's Purpose, #2) by W. Bruce Cameron . They both made me cry and laugh :) i also get a kick out of the Chet and Bernie series. The firs one is Dog on It (A Chet and Bernie Mystery #1) by Spencer Quinn .

message 840: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I finally have Something Wicked This Way Comes! I'm looking forward to starting it - though the toppler is coming up, so it will be set aside during that time.

Sarah | 18550 comments Lynda wrote: "Oh, no, I mean the novel series...sorry to start rumors! Saga is really good; it's one of the few series that I'm willing to pay money for. "

lol! no worries Lynda. I loved the book series.

I will add Saga, Volume 1 to my TBR.

I've just finished the complete Locke & Key series. I wanted to slow down towards the end but I just couldn't. It was a truly fantastic series. Let's hope it hasn't set the standard too high for me with graphic novels and that I'll be disappointed with all future reads. I am pleased to have found a new genre (do you call it a genre?!? format maybe?).

Now I can concentrate on my actual books before the toppler. There is no chance I'll finish The Passage before then like I had planned. Oh well!

message 842: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments @Stephanie, I'll have them on mind and eventually try one. I don't know why I didn't try more books like from the dog's POV if I liked THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN so much.

message 843: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yay, Sandra :) i think books from a dog's POV are really entertaining, but I may be a little biased since I love dogs so much, lol :)

message 844: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments @Sarah, I go back and forth with graphic novel as a genre or a format. It's separate from a "comic book", yet in the same family, but it can be as varied as any other novel: suspense, sci fi, horror, drama, comedy, so I guess I settle on format. But then I can convince myself of the opposite too.

message 845: by Bella (new)

Bella | 502 comments I'm reading An Irish Doctor in Love and at Sea: An Irish Country Novel by Patrick Taylor. It's a charming series. Kind of reminds me of James Herriot's books.

message 846: by Cherie (last edited Oct 15, 2015 12:27PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am reading Dandelion Wine for my series challenge since I read Something Wicked This Way Comes for the group read this month. I really like it. It is so nostalgic for me. So many things remind me of things from my childhood. I also started reading Summer Morning, Summer Night, which is a book of short stories. I have finished the first two. Strange but interesting is all I can report. ;)

I've now started Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian which I'm enjoying so far.
