Loved defending Jacob and agree it does make you think.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished The Rose and the Thorn which was awesome. It took me 5 days to read the first half of the book, I was busy and didn't feel like reading. But, this afternoon I read the second half and I think I'm back in a reading mood :)

Next I'll start The Angel's Game for the series challenge.

You can always count on Hadrian and Royce to get you back in the mood for reading ;)

I hope you enjoy The Angel's Game. I loved it, maybe not quite as much as 'Shadow of the Wind', but it came pretty close.

Kim (kimborams) | 6 comments Just starting 'The Miniaturist' by Jessie Burton - this is our BookChat Group read for the month but I wanted to read it anyway! Don't usually like books set in this period but still...

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Lisa, I'm pretty sure I will like it.

Kim, we read it with a group of people in this group a while ago, if you're interested in the comments here as well. Can't link right now, I'm on my phone.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have just finished Paper Moon for the serial killer challenge and killed off Level 2. This was the final book in the 'Boy I Love' trilogy and it was another 4 star read for me.

I am now going to move straight on and start my first Level 3 book, Ship of Magic, which is the first book in the 'Liveship Traders' trilogy. I am really looking forward to it as I have been wanting to read some Robin Hobb for ages.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Congrats on finishing that level Lisa!

Lynda | 836 comments Congrats, Lisa!

I finished Monsters of Men to complete the Chaos Walking trilogy, and it was as good as the other two books. I've been reading my fill of violent, war stories lately between Saga and The Aeneid, I need something light and sweet...it might be time to read Anne of the Island.

Congratulations on Level 2, Lisa.

Stephanie Finished Armada for the buddy read. I rated it 3 stars, really 3.5. It didn't hold my interest as much as Ready Player One. I liked it but didn't love it.

I find they are so different from the other books I read, it's like a pallet cleanser. Also, I have a lot of nostalgia for the miniseries, as well as reading about a girls coming-of-age tale.

Mary Beth Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars Very well written and worth reading!

I just loved this book. I thought it was so different than other books. This is a thrilling YA adventure about magic and self discovery. Characters and objects come to life by leaping off the pages.

Mortimer is a book binder and has passed on his great love of books to his daughter Meggie but he has never read out loud to her. When a stranger appears at their home, Meggie's world becomes upside down. She soon learns about her mothers vanishing disappearance, and the mysterious book called Inkheart, that her father tries to hide at the book filled home of her Aunt Elinor's. She then learns why her Dad has never read aloud to her, because of his secret dangerous gift. Mo possesses a extraordinary magical power.

Suddenly the two are plunged into the kind of adventure that Meggie has encountered only in fiction books. They need to find a way to save them selves before it ruins their lives forever.

The author does a great job in the characterization of the characters. I finished this book last night and I can still visualize the characters in my head.

This book is a trilogy and I can't wait to read the second book as a buddy read with a friend.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Why is it that all the books that are on hold at the library all come at once? My currently reading list looks like my monthly reads for the whole month now. I have started The Reverse of the Medal, Black Powder War-both in audio read by Simon Vance, The Prisoner of Heaven and The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There for my series challenge. I also started Mrs. Dalloway for the group read. I have a Harlan Coben book to start for the monthly challenge waiting on my desk.

Happens to me too Cherie! I strategize by reading the one(s) that have a shorter loan period -- aka -- the newer one(s) and work my way to the older books that have a longer loan period, with the hope that they have a higher chance of being renewed without interruption if I don't finish them. Good luck!

Inkheart sounds fascinating. Adding it to my TBR!

I finished Blood Brothers yesterday. It was an exceptionally good Nora Roberts book. The romance is formulaic as in all NR books, but the overall story is what has me fascinated. I look forward to finishing out the trilogy.

I started Crank on audio this morning. I know this is going to be an emotional book since it deals with drug abuse by a teenager, but a coworker strongly recommended it to me after I loaned her Identical a few years ago. I really enjoyed Identical and Ellen Hopkins' lyrical prose so I'm hoping Crank will be interesting.

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I finally got Seventh Grave and No Body from the waiting list at the library. They had the next one Eighth Grave After Dark available too so I snatched it up as well. These are the last two in the series for my series challenge. I am also reading The Bone Garden for the monthly challenge.

Sarah | 18550 comments I just finished Armada for the buddy read and I'm now just starting Ender's Game for comparison - another buddy read, it fits the group read theme and is also a series read.

Bella | 502 comments I'm reading $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America by Kathryn J. Edin. My husband mentioned the book- $2 a Day and the author- to me, but it wasn't until I found it on GR that I realized it was about American poverty. I thought it was about global poverty. Sad and distressing that people are living like this in America.

message 531: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Thanks, Bella, I added it to my TBR pile. I'm intrigued by the idea that they are tracking how/why people end up in this level of poverty. I used to work in an environment that was surrounded by extreme poverty.

message 533: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Travis, I loved that book...it's one of my favorites. I plan on getting it for my mom, so we can read it together. She's an extreme extrovert, and really doesn't understand my introverted ways!

message 534: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm practically recommended this book to strangers as I walk down the street Lynda. Of course I don't walk down the street and if I walked down mine it could be days before I found a stranger but I like to think I would recommend it to them. If I wasn't such an introvert of course and was actually brave enough to talk to strangers. Except at the gas pump. I get into very long talks with strangers while getting gas which I always assumed happened to everyone. My wife says she never talks to people at the pump. She was with me one day I was pumping gas got ibto a talk with a stranger. Got back into truck said see what did I tell you I always find people to talk to at the pump. Of course she says oh I didn't even notice I've been on my phone. Enough rambling already

ROFL! The book has had an impact, me thinks.

message 536: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished The Nightingale and wasn't blown away by it. I may have been prejudiced because I'm not a fan of the author. I thought the writing was simplistic and styled like a romance. Given the subject matter, I was expecting something a little more gritty. Oh, it had its gritty moments, but descriptions like "the click clack sound of the train as it moved down the tracks" kind of undid it for me.

Then, I started All Our Yesterdays this afternoon only to find that it has a similar subject matter - imprisonment, torture, war. I think I may set it aside for now and find something a little lighter.

Mary Beth I am reading Voyager

message 540: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Can't say I've ever had a conversation at the gas station, but I'm the person w/ head phones in her ears at all times.

I set aside Mrs. Dalloway tonight to finish up Anne of the Island. it was so nice to read something that was completely the opposite of war and violence. Also, I don't think any book really does nostalgia better than the Green Gables books.

message 541: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've wondered about that book a few times Travis but I'm so awful with non fiction books. Now I'm only buying ones that I know my partner will read too then I don't feel so bad if I don't manage to finish it.

This weekend is going to be busy, so while continuing with the Monthly Group Read, and Sherlock over breakfast, I'm planning on reading through Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft and hopefully another Birds of Prey book.

message 547: by Tasha (last edited Sep 04, 2015 07:21AM) (new)

Tasha I'm reading Lady of the Eternal City to finish up the series. I loved Mistress of Rome but felt the middle two in the series were good but did not compare to the page-turning feel of MoR. I'm so happy that Lady of the Eternal City has me turning the pages, not wanting to put the book down, just like MoR. I'm loving it.

I've wondered about this book several times, but I'm not much of an NF reader. You have convinced me to pick it up!

message 549: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Do you ever do audio books. KimeyDiann because I've found NF easier on audio for myself

message 550: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's a good idea Travis - audio non fiction. I'll have to see if it works for me.
