What Are You Reading and Why? 2015 second half

Next I'll start The Angel's Game for the series challenge.

You can always count on Hadrian and Royce to get you back in the mood for reading ;)
I hope you enjoy The Angel's Game. I loved it, maybe not quite as much as 'Shadow of the Wind', but it came pretty close.

Kim, we read it with a group of people in this group a while ago, if you're interested in the comments here as well. Can't link right now, I'm on my phone.

We read that a couple of months ago. You might be interested in our discussion thread. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I am now going to move straight on and start my first Level 3 book, Ship of Magic, which is the first book in the 'Liveship Traders' trilogy. I am really looking forward to it as I have been wanting to read some Robin Hobb for ages.

I finished Monsters of Men to complete the Chaos Walking trilogy, and it was as good as the other two books. I've been reading my fill of violent, war stories lately between Saga and The Aeneid, I need something light and sweet...it might be time to read Anne of the Island.

Congratulations on Level 2, Lisa.

I find they are so different from the other books I read, it's like a pallet cleanser. Also, I have a lot of nostalgia for the miniseries, as well as reading about a girls coming-of-age tale.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4.5 stars Very well written and worth reading!
I just loved this book. I thought it was so different than other books. This is a thrilling YA adventure about magic and self discovery. Characters and objects come to life by leaping off the pages.
Mortimer is a book binder and has passed on his great love of books to his daughter Meggie but he has never read out loud to her. When a stranger appears at their home, Meggie's world becomes upside down. She soon learns about her mothers vanishing disappearance, and the mysterious book called Inkheart, that her father tries to hide at the book filled home of her Aunt Elinor's. She then learns why her Dad has never read aloud to her, because of his secret dangerous gift. Mo possesses a extraordinary magical power.
Suddenly the two are plunged into the kind of adventure that Meggie has encountered only in fiction books. They need to find a way to save them selves before it ruins their lives forever.
The author does a great job in the characterization of the characters. I finished this book last night and I can still visualize the characters in my head.
This book is a trilogy and I can't wait to read the second book as a buddy read with a friend.

Great review, Dem. I already have it on my TBR, and I am lookinhg forward to reading it.

Happens to me too Cherie! I strategize by reading the one(s) that have a shorter loan period -- aka -- the newer one(s) and work my way to the older books that have a longer loan period, with the hope that they have a higher chance of being renewed without interruption if I don't finish them. Good luck!

Inkheart sounds fascinating. Adding it to my TBR!
I finished Blood Brothers yesterday. It was an exceptionally good Nora Roberts book. The romance is formulaic as in all NR books, but the overall story is what has me fascinated. I look forward to finishing out the trilogy.
I started Crank on audio this morning. I know this is going to be an emotional book since it deals with drug abuse by a teenager, but a coworker strongly recommended it to me after I loaned her Identical a few years ago. I really enjoyed Identical and Ellen Hopkins' lyrical prose so I'm hoping Crank will be interesting.

ROFL! The book has had an impact, me thinks.

Then, I started All Our Yesterdays this afternoon only to find that it has a similar subject matter - imprisonment, torture, war. I think I may set it aside for now and find something a little lighter.

Inkheart is very fascinating. I'm reading the second book this month.

I set aside Mrs. Dalloway tonight to finish up Anne of the Island. it was so nice to read something that was completely the opposite of war and violence. Also, I don't think any book really does nostalgia better than the Green Gables books.

This weekend is going to be busy, so while continuing with the Monthly Group Read, and Sherlock over breakfast, I'm planning on reading through Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft and hopefully another Birds of Prey book.

I've wondered about this book several times, but I'm not much of an NF reader. You have convinced me to pick it up!
