What's most important in book for you- the story line or the message book carries for the society/humanity?

message 2: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 241 comments I think that I look for a mix of both, actually, when choosing something to read. I don't read many books involving dark subject matter, but I often find that these 'darker' books have some of the most important Life Messages. Then again, there is always enjoyment in the so-called light summer read! :) Sometimes you just need a soft and fluffy book.

Linda Bakker-Zwakhals (lbakkerz) | 701 comments I agree with Melissa. Sometimes you read a book with a message that will get to you emotionally, and usually after something like that i just want to read a light and fluffy book to clear my mind. To me both are equally important

message 4: by Dawnie (new)

Dawnie I think it depends on the books, but in most cases i prefer if it is both since i think both are important, even though i think that the storyline is a bit more important.

I mean if the book has a horrible storyline and you just can't get through it, it doesn't matter if it has a fantastic message for society or humanity, because you just can't read the book, you don't get through the story.

So to have a great message in a book you need a storyline that you want to follow to the message and not give up halfway through.

Also, i think that not all books need a message to make them great. There are many books that don't necessary have an actual message, but just tell a story, and those books can be fantastic -if they have a great storyline.

I love books with important messages, especially in the books towards the younger audience -but also in general- because i think that books can really open your eyes to specific topics or other ways of thinking.

But you need a good storyline to get to the important message, i my option.

Aleena Layan | 2 comments I like a mixture of both of them.A book becomes more interesting with its sudden plot twists and circumstances but a book becomes further interesting when it has some type of message to convey to human kinds

Madhu (Madhu LovesBooks) (madhu_lovesbooks) | 72 comments A book with a social message not only creates awareness, but also a realisation. But in my opinion,a book also requires a good storyline to convey a message.
Good storylines with occasional twists and turns becomes a good read.Otherwise,a book with a message but a weak storyline makes the entire plot of the book weak.

Sherlindreah | 48 comments the storyline...definitively the storyline
I don't care much about messages people want us to hear or in that case, read.actually, most of the time it annoys me since I read for entertainement.
It is obviously different if I choose a special book because of the message it carries but then it won't be a fiction and i'll already be sensible to it.

Emma (e_loves_writing) | 133 comments In my personal opinion it is a little but if both but it also depends on the reader as well. If the author decides to publish a book with a good storyline and also a good lesson/moral for society I honeslty think its good for the world. For instance if we were to think about to Kill a mockingbird amd how that sold LOTS of copies because of the fact of it having a good storyline but also it had a good lesson/moral for society, and it has impacted the world, as an author that is what I would want to do is to leave an imprint on the world.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) The storyline. I think we can get our own messages from a good storyline, what speaks to the person. Of course sometimes there's a clear message, but a good storyline will be needed to make it heard and be as effective.

Peg - reading heals | 17 comments Storyline is huge. I think the storyline, if well-crafted, brings out societal messages and they work work in tandem. When novels are message-heavy without a good storyline I often end up irritated by the message.

Marina (sonnenbarke) Both :-)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Both. The storyline is what sucks you in so you can get to the message the book carries.
