Altered Carbon has the detective with enhanced senses but there are no aliens. There are AIs though, and people who have been put in artificial bodies.

the plot: a cop/detective with abilities that enhanced his sense, go around and solving murder. futuristic world.
** SPOILER WARNING **
the characters : main protagonist is a human has a partner who is an alien yellow in color with black stripes, very strong, they communicate with a universal translator, a handheld device fastened on their wrist. at first it is awkward communication ( like a comic dialogue, since the old translator cant translate sarcasm and rhetoric, and when it happened it translate funny) until after they switch to a new universal translator then the story hit it off between them
he is also a member of a group where the leader is a lady and she wants him, but he is going for another girl in the group. close to oracle like group, very happy and harmony kind of group.
prota has an enhanced vision at first, able to look at tiny missable stuff, then he got a new enhancement for his sense of smell, which can tell who has been in that place. he got the enhancement from spider looking aliens.
i think the novel is part of a larger series.

cant remember when i read it either sorry, how old the book, its hard to say, the story is very much farther in the distant future, but the understanding of the tech jargon is pretty much in 2000-ish, not like those cold war era
