Minesweeper 2015 - Sign-up and Questions
And here is the challenge widget for this challenge if anybody wants to use it ☺ - https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...
It's possible. I have a list of the current total books read for each team based on everyone's numbers yesterday. The teams are pretty even at the moment, but there are a couple of teams who are a bit behind everybody else. We'll see how it goes, we may need to if we find people drop out or join etc. ☺
Jackie wrote: "What is the number with a decimal in it mean?"I believe it's because I only read 25 pages so I didn't get a box. ^-^
Jackie wrote: "But everyone has it?"True did not see that. Maybe it still has to do with the pages though? Because last I checked our team still had no box points.
The last column is calculated as the points earned column + pages read column (which converted to points, 1000 page = 5 points)
Yes, I just was trying to figure that out myself, and read the above post, you can get page points, but you can't pick a box with a secret number :-( ;-)
Yes, Ashley. That's what Sarah said. Just turn in e pages you have read. You just can't use it to get a box or for buddy points.
Do we only get to see the points in the boxes picked once the challenge has ended? If a team member picks a number, do we get to see what's behind their box choice and plan to pick numbers around it or is it a luck/random number guess?
From what I understand is the secret boxes are revealed weekly, and the grid changes weekly, so you can technically pick the same exact number for every book you read, and you can pick a team mates number as well, but you're not going to know the number until the end of the week and then the grid changes, Does that make sense?
Decimal points are from the calculations - so pages/200 + points + buddy points ☺
Any pages read in July can be entered, but for books started before July, and books under 100 pages you can only claim points, not boxes.
At the end of each week, boxes will be converted to points, and added to each person's total. The grid will remain the same though, as specific points values for each box will not be revealed. You'd have to pick a box say 5 times, and then divide the points you get by 5 to work out how many points was in the box ☺

Good Courtney, I should have you figure out what boxes I should guess based on my previous boxes and all this dividing stuff E TC, LOL! ;-)I had trouble helping my youngest son this year in six grade math, and forget about my older kids they're doing calculus and precalculus, I am absolutely no help!
Haha, Tati! You're not the only one! I teach and tutor at a college and you have no idea how many people come in just completely freaked out about their math homework.
Same with me! I just look at my kids math books and it doesn't make any sense, it's like a foreign language ;-)
I had two semesters of calculus at college. Sometimes, we'd get an exercise sheet to work on during classes. Once, I called the teacher to my desk and the following dialogue ensued:Me: About this exercise...
Him: What about it?
Me: Huh? I can't even figure out what you want me to calculate
Courtney wrote: "Calculus is my favorite! I love it!"Oh my gosh, so do I! I just love maths. Definitely one of my favourites.
My oldest son is going off to college next year with a major in Economics and a minor in Statistics,, Clearly none of this came from his good old mom!
I started a degree in Economics after I finished my International Relations degree, but gave it up after one semester (I needed only two semesters). It just wasn't for me
Introduction to economics is not bad, at least, for me, it was just a bunch of concept, such as GDP, currency...
I majored in Kinesiology, but I did have to take Economics for some GE requirements, actually I found it interesting, especially the political side of it :-)
Sarah wrote: "Numbers just make sense! I was always much happier in Maths class than drama or PE!"Agreed! Drama class was so stressful. I never thought acting could be so hard :)
The political aspect is interesting. But when people start talking about microeconomics or econometrics or any of the subjects that deal with graphs or numbers, they lose me, my brain just goes into fatal error mode
Sarah wrote: "Numbers just make sense! I was always much happier in Maths class than drama or PE!"Snap! I freaking hated drama and PE!
LOL! Basically I did major in PE Kinesiology, is just a fancier way of saying it, and it is actually a lot of science, but it does definitely sound better than majoring in PE ;-)
Yay, Twila! Another math lover!Statistics is the only math I didn't like. Part if that might have been how it was presented, but it's not like other math.
LOL! Statistics is the only math I really understood, I actually got the highest grade in the class, which was a miracle! At the time I was pregnant with my oldest son, so because he is so good at math I'm thinking maybe he helped me out ;-)
That's so funny! Usually you either really like statistics or you hate it. It just never clicked for me. Calculus, algebra, differential equations, even complex analysis made sense. But not stats.

the freaking drama teacher had it in for me. no matter how hard i tried she hated me! I was awful admittedly, but she couldn't look at me without scowling.

That's right ☺

Statistics is a bit weird. you're right about it not being like other math.
