Emerson shook even harder when Bones pulled her to a hug, burying her face into his chest and holding onto him like a lifeline. "But you don't know that's what will happen," she reminded him. "I could- I can take it back, and promise them something else. Hunting rogue angels or something." Although she, herself, was a rogue angel. She sobbed into Bones, unable to control her evident emotions. "Please don't leave me alone," she whispered, her voice rough from crying and screaming.

"You're being so selfish," Emerson murmured, though she let him hold her face. "And what if something happens to me before then? What if your father finds me?" She was playing a dangerous card, but it was still a possibility. "You're making a decision for yourself right now, but if you really love me, like you said the other night, you would let me help you decide. If you loved me you wouldn't leave me by myself." Her lip wobbled again, and she swallowed hard.

"I don't know!" Emerson froze, trying to come up with enough of a plan to please Bones to stay long enough for them to talk. "I don't have a plan! I need you to help me." She took another breath. "I'll work for them some other way; I'll hold a headquarters, or a mass hospital, or..." Or she could run. Or hide out. "Or... Or I revoke my status as angel. They'll..." They'd break her wings. It would be excruciating. And they would do other things to make sure she wouldn't switch sides. "Anything would be better than not having you."

"Crispin, if you leave..." Emerson paused, gathering her thoughts of what she knew would happen to her. "They'll think I was helping the enemy." She froze and looked at the vein pumping in his neck. "You may not think I'm special or whatever," that still stung, really bad, "but I believe I can get my deal changed. I think they'll listen. I matter a lot more to them than you think." She'd be damned if word of what she was doing got to her brothers.

Emerson's hands slipped back to Bones' hips again, and she let out a relieved breath. "They wouldn't care... What I did in the last war, before Kylist... It's what gained them enough ground to stop the war at a truce." She looked away, her lip throbbing now that her tears stung it. "I wasn't just a medic. I..." She sucked in a breath, closing her eyes tight. "I did other things for them, and they liked it." But that may be a reason for them to not let her change their minds. "What if I promised them every other year? Every other month?" They might take that counter offer.

Emerson flinched at the question, as that had been the worst thing about her visit to the legion's outpost. "They cut it," she whispered, lowering her eyes. "Regulations. It should be a lot shorter, but I managed to get my way out of that." The legion didn't want demons grabbing hair in battle, since it was considered 'sacred'. Which was why it was terrible to let them even shorten it from waist-to-shoulderblade length. She was sure they'd finish the job next time, anyway.

"I don't know." At least Emerson wasn't shaking anymore, but she felt dull, the way she always did after a minor panic attack. "We can come up with a plan B, or just... Improvise." She leaned her head against the truck, looking up at Bones. She wished they hadn't cut her hair. Ever since Marcus had pulled her by it, she realized she hated the idea of anyone other than Bones allowing themselves to touch it. She sighed softly and looked away. "The... The angels at that outpost are weak," she whispered after a moment. "There were just too many that I couldn't stop them from-" She stopped, pinching her eyes shut. "I think... That particular post can be taken down."

((What do you think about bringing in another group? Like a small one that's barely started that consists of angels and demons that's like a rebel group?))
(( :D Like... Now? I was thinking someone followed her from the outpost or something.))
((Okay. :D))
"I mean... Yeah, they'd probably be super pissed off, and it's a weak outpost, but not the weakest, so they would know that we're strong together, and maybe not mess with-" Emerson froze, suddenly distracted by a quiet wooshing that came from afar and suddenly stopped in the dark of the trees. "Did you hear that?" she hissed to Crispin, icicles already forming from her hands. "We need to get back-"
"Wait!" came a screeching male voice. "Don't kill me. Please." A figure limped out of the forest, something shiny and metallic gianting behind him, and it seemed... attached? "I have been flying for hours, trying to loose the tails that followed you from that house."
Emerson tried to not be offended with the obvious crack at her stealth, and huffed. "You flew? With what?" One of the metal things stretched out from behind him, about six foot off to his side. It was made of beams and honestly looked like... A wing? Emerson was very confused, and she looked to Bones again.

Copper heard and felt something off outside, a growl rumbling in her throat as he sensed the anger rumbling off Bones. She out the back door and then she saw him, without even hesitating she jumped him ready to kill him in just a few blows, then she heard Bones. He huffed, sad that she wouldn't actually get to kill the man. She flopped down on top of him though, making sure he wouldn't be able to move even if he wanted too.
Bones chuckled softly and ran over to the man, "What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice holding an undercurrent of a threat.
"I- uh," the man stuttered, obviously wary of the giant hellcat atop his body. At least he didn't have a hard time breathing, but continued, "I followed her." He snuck his hand out from under Copper to point at Emerson, and the she-angel stiffened. "Wait! Not like that! I needed to talk to you alone; and I guess your boyfriend, too."
"What's your name?" Emerson demanded, her own voice more threatening than she could usually manage, as she felt threatened.
"Malachi," the man told them. "Mal or Kai for short.. Um... Can you call your Mngwa guy off me?" As if in answer, Copper growled, and Emerson laughed. "Mngwa girl," the angel corrected.
"What do you want to speak to us about, then?" Emerson questioned, her icy hands balled to fists at her hips.
"Oh, right, well... Are you two rebels? I mean, obviously, a demon and angel in an affair is strictly forbidden." Emerson rolled her eyes, but Malachi continued. "If you are... I have something that might -well, will interest you."

As if in answer Copper licked her lips and eyes the angel like he was food.

Emerson watched as Malachi shook his raven-dark hair, but due to her head hurting and the dark, she couldn't really see him that well. "No, I know this will help your situation. I mean... I watched, when you gave yourself up and took on your status for the war."
Emerson let a low noise escape from her throat. "You're the one who branded me," she said, not really a question.
"Oh, no, that was my brother. I'm with... I'm with the rebel brotherhood." The angel rolled her eyes at the cheesy name. "We want you two with us. Like, a part of our team." Now, Emerson was seriously confused.
"What do you want with us? Aren't you just rejects?"
Malachi took the blow easily, and shrugged beneath Copper. "Exactly, but... I know you don't want to fight for their war. So why not fight for ours?" He looked to Bones. "You two could stay together, for the most part."

Emerson shot a glare at Bones, subtly telling him to back off for the moment. "Would that mean I could get out of my deal with the legion?" she asked, her voice wary.
She shifted when Malachi looked her up and down, realizing that she was still wearing just the shirt. "We would help you out of that, but you would have to swear allegiance to us." He looked over at Bones, arching his brows. "You were going to leave over her deal, right?" Emerson bristled, annoyed with his obvious eavesdropping. "Right. So this is a reason not to leave." Sensing that it wasn't going to be that easy, he added, "We would give you your own charge; the only people you would have to obey is the big guys, who haven't even contacted anyone in a long time."

Malachi seemed to mull this over, and Emerson just looked pissed. "What if we gave you... A freelance job, that was kept to the brotherhood?" he asked slowly, thinking of the last thing he's been instructed to offer. "Sort of a... Interrogater-slash-hunter of rogues?" Emerson took a step back to lean against the truck, looking from Malachi to Crispin. "We really want the two of you together."

Emerson flinched when the door slammed before taking a deep breath as Malachi stood, brushed himself off and took a step closer to her. The she-angel held out a hand and warned, "Don't." She looked the way Bones had gone and bit her lip despite the pain.
"Why wouldn't you want to rebel against the organization that hurt you like that?" Malachi asked, and Emerson knew he was trying to play a mind game on her.
"I want to join, I'm just not sure I'm willing to do it if it meant losing him," she whispered finally, and Malachi seemed to back off a little. She sighed, looking up at the tall angel, and gave a faint nod. "Let me think about it and talk to him. Come back tomorrow night." She didn't wait for an answer as she padded across the gravel to head back inside, and she barely waved a hand in recognition as Malachi said, "It was nice meeting you two..." With an eye roll.
She headed back inside, softly closing the door behind her with a sigh. She was still dragging, and feeling even more weighted now with everything that happened in the past hour. She leaned against the door and slowly slid to the floor, taking deep, calming breaths.

Emerson stood after a few minutes, deciding she was too exhausted to eat, so she slowly made her way upstairs, finding Bones in the guest room after she didn't in the master bedroom. "I need to sleep more, but I'm not going to bed if I think you'll pick up and leave," she told him, leaning her head against the doorway.

Emerson's shoulders sagged with relief, and she nodded gratefully, walking with Bones to the bed before climbing in and pulling the covers over her. She watched him carefully until she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer, and drifted off for a while.

A couple hours later, Emerson awoke with a furry purring in her face, and jumped back only to find Copper there. Well, at least Bones had kept his promise, as she knew he wouldn't leave without the Mngwa. She sat up and petted the cat, and the purring increased to an almost-growl, and Emerson laughed softly, sliding off the bed to get dressed.
A few minutes later she padded downstairs in jeans and a sweater to find Bones, wondering where he had gone.

"Fine, but any longer and I think Copper would have issued herself as my personal blanket," Emerson joked, only waiting a beat before wrapping her arms around Bones. "What's the basement like?" she asked, although she didn't really care. She looked up at him, searching his face for any sign of decision on what they were going to do.

"Well, she can lay on top of me as long as I can breathe." Emerson didn't smile, though, instead momentarily leaning her head on his chest before pulling back to ask, "Want to go for a walk?" with her eyebrows raised slightly. She didn't want to just sit around much longer, as she was used to working. "Or I can help you clean up the basement?"

Emerson finally smiled, grabbing her boots to slip on as they walked out the door. "That sounds fun. We should go down to the beach, too." She looked over between the two paths, weaving her fingers through Crispin's as they walked. A chilled breeze blew her curls away, and she took in a deep breath of the air. "I like it here," she murmured.

Emerson bit her mostly-healed lip even though it irritated it. "I don't know... It's something to consider, if my plan to change the legion's mid goes wrong." Hell, if it went wrong, it would probably end up with them hurting her, or worse, Bones. "But I can't know that it's for real. What if it's a trap? And... I don't want to leave you, but if they can provide protection or us from the legion..." She sighed, not wanting to have a panic attack again. "What would make you change your mind about them?" she asked, curious.

"He said they wanted you, Bones, and kind of made it sound like it's a group of angels and demons, so I'm sure they have to deal with your charming personality a lot." Emerson looked to the demon, giving his hand a slight squeeze as she stepped over a rock. "I just... I'm not going to do it if you don't think it's smart." She honestly just wanted to be with him. "It seems a better idea than me having to be with the legion, though." A weird thought suddenly occurred to her, and she glanced back to the old house. "What do you think happened with Abernathy?" she asked, figuring Bones had been asleep the entire time she was gone.

"Oh, my god. Bones," Emerson scolded, looking back at the house. "What did you do-" she stopped and shook her head. "Never mind; I don't want to know." She rolled her eyes, looking up at the approaching lighthouse. "She deserved it," she muttered after a second.
