You should do the same thing back! Haha

I am reading The Noodle Maker

The Noodle Maker by Ma Jian

which is post-modernist and pretentious and The End of the Line

The End of the Line How Overfishing Is Changing the World and What We Eat by Charles Clover

which is very well researched, much better written than most environmental books and - if I didn't have some idea of what is happening in the ocean - would be deeply depressing

Anna It has a good title.

How are you finding the book so far?

I'm currently reading The Kill Order. I just finished reading The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, which are all books in the same series. The Kill Order is apparently #0.5 in the series. That didn't make sense to me because it's a book that goes with The Scorch Trials and that was the second book... so I would understand if it was 1.5 or 2.5 but 0.5 would have to be before the first book and that would've been a big spoiler alert because they didn't know about the Scorch yet.

Sorry, I have had a lot of free time to think about this... anyways, so far the whole series is really good! I'm going to see the Scorch Trials in the theaters with my family though so I hope they didn't ruin it like they did with the first movie (no don't take that seriously because it was a good movie it's just they took out a lot of good parts from the book).

I always wanted to read The Maze Runner! My sister has the entire trilogy but it was never returned by her friend. :|

I'm currently reading Dorothy Must Die. It's a really good YA book even if I haven't read or watched Wizard of Oz. :)

I have those books. How much are you enjoying them? I have been a bit on the fence about reading them.

I have seen that book a lot in the shops. What is it actually about?

Which one?

message 59: by Anna (new)

Anna Oops I quoted the wrong person. I refer to the book Dorothy Must Die.

message 60: by GailW (new)

GailW (abbygg) Ines of my Soul by Isabel Allende. Took a bit to get into but I'm glad I kept going.

kate (allthetrinkets) Annabella wrote: "Oops I quoted the wrong person. I refer to the book Dorothy Must Die."

It's a Young Adult book set in a twisted version of Oz. Just finished reading it. :)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 44 comments I'm reading Master of Shadows at the moment and honestly think, so far, I may have built my hopes up a bit too high (because Neil Oliver is awesome). But I shall continue reading it because it's still 4 star worthy imo :D

message 65: by Anna (new)

Anna Oh I hate it when your expectations are so high with books. I think that ruins it. Books can be assume, but you always expect more.

I hate it when an author says they're going to publish a book on a certain day and then when the day comes, they push it back 4 months.

message 67: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 44 comments Annabelle It ended up turning out okay in the end - seems a few books have done that recently - dragged after the firts half and then picked up in the last few chapters :P
ᔕᗩGᕮ - that is horrible when that happens - especially after building yourself up for the hype, making sure you have the money put aside (or did you pre-order?) and clearing your reading list to make way for it - so inconsiderate!

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 44 comments I am currently reading The Emperor's Edge which is reasonably enjoyable :) Was a good little Smashwords find a while ago that I've only just got around to :/

I have soon many books. I seriously need to take a week off work and catch up on my reading.

What is your book about? I am currently reading Florence and Giles. It is great so far, but again, not much time to read more then a chapter (they are only a few pages each).

message 70: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 44 comments Sorry, disappeared on holiday before you replied, my bad!
I know the feeling - not helped by #ReadWomen month next month so my book pile is just huge!

That book was a bit of a steampunk adventure with plots against the emperor, an assassin working with an enforcer and a few shady characters too - not exactly rocket science to work with (although my read after that was The Martian so... ;D)

I managed to get through about 5/6 books on my holiday and tonight I shall be starting The Man in the High Castle before December kicks off :D

message 71: by Anna (new)

Anna Have you read The Martian? That is on my to read list before I watch the movie.

I have seen Amazon promote their new series of The Man in the High Castle. It looks really good!

message 72: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 44 comments Oh yes, I really liked The Martian - the main character's narrative was really rather funny, and right up my street :D I hope you enjoy it too :D

I'm about 45 pages in to The Man in the High Castle and so far doing well :) I also want to read it before I move on to the series :)

message 73: by Monica (new)

Monica | 9 comments I am currently reading Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran. I just finished Fires of Alexandria by Thomas Carpenter

I don't know if I should give the book a go. Seems like something that I would get confused in. Might just stick to the series on this one.

message 75: by Anna (new)

Anna Monica wrote: "I am currently reading Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran. I just finished Fires of Alexandria by Thomas Carpenter"

Oh interesting. Do you like books filled with history?

message 76: by Monica (new)

Monica | 9 comments I prefer historical fiction, biographies and history books, but if I find a book I like in another genre I'll read it. I do not like romance novels and I'm not a big fan of crime-solving mysteries. I loved the Hunger Games trilogy and books like Jurassic Park and Eat Pray Love. I'm also a fan of Joyce Meyer. I'm one of those people who could spend quite a bit of time walking up and down each aisle of the library looking at books. People who go to the library with me, usually end up siting and waiting for me. :)

message 77: by Anna (new)

Anna LMAO! My friends hate it when I go into Waterstones. I can be in there for a good hour with my arms full of books. Then I have to decide which ones I actually want.

I'm currently reading Of Mice and Men. I felt sad being the only one that hadn't read it. I must have skipped over that book when I moved. (view spoiler) I'm still determined to read it though.

message 79: by Anna (new)

Anna I read that at school. I think I liked it. Rather sad story if I remember rightly.

Yeah, now I know.

message 81: by Anna (new)

Anna I loved the American feel to it.

There is a movie for it aswell if you are interested.

message 82: by megan donaldson (new)

megan donaldson | 4 comments I am finishing the Divergent series, reading a book on the neuroanatomy of psychopaths, and the second book in a series about immortals by Duval.

message 83: by Anna (new)

Anna Which one do you prefer so far Megan?

message 84: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I am reading The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins and Doctor Thorne by Anthony Trollope for my classics book group.
I just finished reading The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It is an intense book. Has anyone read it?

message 85: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I am reading The Young Unicorns by Madeleine L'Engle. It is part of the Austin Family series.

message 86: by Anna (new)

Anna Rosemarie wrote: "I am reading The Young Unicorns by Madeleine L'Engle. It is part of the Austin Family series."

I have never heard of that. What is it about?

message 87: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie This is probably the worst Madeleine L'Engle book, at least I think so. I did not enjoy it at all. The plot was far fetched and generally weird. I enjoyed A Ring of Endless Light much more.

message 88: by Anna (new)

Anna Rosemarie wrote: "This is probably the worst Madeleine L'Engle book, at least I think so. I did not enjoy it at all. The plot was far fetched and generally weird. I enjoyed A Ring of Endless Light much more."

Are they both part of the series? What are they about?

message 89: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie The two series I know are The Wrinkle in Time series, and the Austin Family series. There are some characters that appear in both. I prefer the Wrinkle in Time books because they are more consistent in plot(fantasy).

message 90: by Anna (new)

Anna I like it when characters from other series end up finding there way into another.

message 91: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I belong to another group that is reading The Chronicles of Barsetshire by Anthony Trollope. We are on the third book, Doctor Thorne, and most members feel the way you do when characters pop up in other books. The books are a lot of fun to read as well.

message 92: by Anna (new)

Anna I get so excited that I cannot keep up with my eyes!

message 93: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie We are going to be starting Trollope's Framley Parsonage on Sunday. I am reading way too many books right now, all good, just too many. I have been reading some YA and children's books as a break from the longer books.

message 94: by Anna (new)

Anna I've just picked up Hex. It sounds a little spooky which I love. I haven't even smelled it yet, I've been so bad this year and haven't given much time to reading. There is just so much going on.

message 95: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I am reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.

message 96: by Anna (new)

Anna What's that about?

message 97: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie The Bell Jar is an intense look at mental illness, written in the first person by a 19 year old narrator. It is based loosely on Plath's own life. Who later committed suicide when she was married to the philandering Ted Hughes. I didn't like the first half of the book (much destructive behaviour) but the second half is about the treatment she is finally getting- not all of it good.

message 98: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I am finally reading Lorna Doone. It has been on my to-read shelf for more than 10 years.
I read Jude the Obscure at the beginning of this year. I had been meaning to read the book since my first year of university, in 1971!

message 99: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I am reading Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin. It is a gripping story set in Harlem of the the 1930s.

message 100: by Igor (new)

Igor | 9 comments I am now reading Comes the Dark Stranger by Jack Higgins. It's a very dynamic book about ex-militray revenge. Has anyone read it?
