Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Hello :) So dystopian fantasy. Got any interesting ideas?

message 2: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Well I have sort of one. A civilization remains in a strictly regulated compound where the Outside is an endless forest where dangerous, 'feral' people live (possibly they could have magic or dragons or have supernatural powers or something). Within this city is a school compound where children are raised for specialist jobs within the city state, under the strict jurisdiction of the government in question. However, the government one day catches and Outsider and he is brought into the city to be first quarantined for diseases then interrogated and experimented upon. Our characters in the school get to talk to him (somehow) and start to see two sides to the government. This is followed by an attack of the Outsiders on the city and then they're alive and left to work for the Outsiders or something? Or the children can be the ones with the powers, or everyone can have the power as long as they're drinking a special type of water the Outsiders have or something, just throwing around this old idea.

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) I love it! Should we do doubles? Each have someone from the city and outside? The two from outside can be siblings that got caught together maybe? And I say only outsiders have magic normally and when the rare person inside is born with it they're considered dangerous?

message 4: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Great! :) Hm, I say yes to all of your points! Both one boy, one girl or...? I don't really mind at this point.

message 5: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) That's what I'm thinking. And for the outsiders Im thinking either twins or older bother. Can I be the insdie boy and outside girl? And what ages are you thinking? at lest 17+ I think

message 6: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Yes to all of that as well. Cool, shall we start? I'll just make one character at a time, I don't want to run out of inspiration haha.

message 7: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Or lets jump right in without making characters ;) You start us off?

message 8: by Giulia (last edited Jun 17, 2015 01:41AM) (new)

Giulia Name: Ander
Age: 20
Appearance: He is tall and athletic from his years in the Outside.

Personality: He is clever and resourceful, as well as being a blend of humorous and cynical. Ander is equal parts calculating and sociable, making him unpredictable to some and a friend to others.
History: He grew up in the Outside, learning to forage berries, nuts and hunt for his clan of magical beings while escaping prosecution from those who live in the compound. He's grown to very much hate those on the inside, with all the resources and comfort while they're forced to stay in the forests. Their parents had died in a raid years ago, furthering his angst.
Skills: His power is to make solid objects transparent (but not transverse-able) for as long as he needs it. This comes in useful in detecting incoming raids as well in escapes. He feels like he can further his ability but hasn't had a chance to develop whatever other skills he can acquire from his current power.
Relationships: He is close to his sister but they otherwise don't have parents or any close relatives. He doesn't have a significant other either.
Others: He carries a dagger around with him usually, but otherwise prefers to use the longbow.

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Name: Avery
Age: 20
Appearance:

Skills: Avery has telekinesis. Larger or heaver objects are harder and take more energy. She had passed out before when pushing herself too hard.

message 10: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Oh that's so funny I was going to make my inside character of asian descent. Okay, to keep the brother/sister thing, I'll change Ander.

message 11: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Name: Luna Mortimer
Age: 18
Appearance: Quite pale and soft, Luna is on the smaller side. She has light blonde hair cut to the shoulder as all the children in the compound must have, and gray eyes.

Personality: She is a sensitive and observant person, who easily empathises and understands people. However, she is not mentally weak or cowardly; she easily can be brave and bold, though in a silent way. Otherwise, she is friendly enough though quiet.
History: She had grown up in the education compound from childhood, along with all the other children of the city. There, they detached her from her parents and put her into the system, preparing her for whatever job she is assigned upon leaving at 18 years old. So far, she's been in training to be nurse.
Skills: She has advanced nursing skills though healing is not completely in her capacity. Apart from that, she's got the necessary calculations and logic to complete her job.
Relationships: She is close to her brother, and is happy to see their mother when she visits, though is distant from their one living relation. Their mother is kind to them, but doesn't see them often enough for closeness.
Others: Nothing much. She is rather curious what it should be like in the forest.

message 12: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Name: Tyler Myers
Age: 18
Appearance:

Skills: Tyler has been training to go into the science filed, hoping that on assignment day that's where he'll be placed.

Can you start Giulia?

message 13: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) And I liked the other picture for Ander more! And what do you think of since they're twins they can speak to each other telepathically as well? A gift that is sometimes given to twins?

message 14: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Let's give them telepathy, sure :) Sorry, I just figured that twins should at least be the same ethnicity? Btw Tyler and Luna aren't siblings right? Or are they? And I'll be happy to start :)

message 15: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) No, Tyler and Luna aren't siblings. Did you want them to be? And probably true for the others....this is going o be fun

message 16: by Giulia (new)

Giulia No, just checking :) And Tyler is pretty attractive haha. Woo, and I'm free all morning so we actually can RP a decent amount!

message 17: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) night here but I have maybe an hour or so before I'm heading to bed.:)

message 18: by Giulia (new)

Giulia There we go! Shall we?

Luna joined the queue to see what her schedule of the day was on the touch screen that lined a wall of the school compound. All around her were the other children of ages thirteen upwards. Since her transfer to the teenaged wing, she had to wear the gray shirt and white trousers as a uniform, her hair neatly placed and her attitude constantly in check. She hardly rebelled against anything but sometimes, the compound was too trapping for them.

((By the way, which one of our Outsiders should be captured?))

Ander moved casually through the forest, using a wooden stick to move lower shrubs and plants aside so he could walk through without leaving a cut machete trail. He momentarily used his vision to spot a deer not to far ahead and quieted his activities. 'Want to go for the hunt?' he asked his sister.

message 19: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) ((I was thinking both would get caught? Make things more interesting.))

Avery wasn't too far away from where her brother was, maybe half a mile and was working on honing her skills with larger objects. She straightened when she heard his voice in her head. On my way She said, able to just know where he was. A few minutes later she silently stopped by his side, watching the deer.

Tyler was down the hall a little ways, looking at his own schedule. Only a few weeks left until he'd be assigned and he was ready for it. It seemed like this last bit of time was dragging so much longer than time normally did. Like the rest of the students he was in uniform, blending in to the crowd as he copied the schedule, heading to where he needed to go.

(and haha about Tyler XD It's a pic I've used before in other rps. Not sure who he is.))

message 20: by Giulia (new)

Giulia ((Sweet. The Insiders wouldn't have known who they caught by getting telepathic twins haha.))

'I'll rush him, you shoot when I bring him to your area alright?' he told her. It was uncommon for the pair of them to speak out loud to each other since telepathy was quicker and more efficient anyway. He then moved onwards, checking again and again with his vision where the deer and his sister were to organise the rush in the right direction.

"Class, class, class, mandatory service, announcements..." Luna murmured to herself, scrolling down her plan for the day. It felt repetitive but soon, she'd be out of here and on her way to the massive hospitals, treating patients and living on her own. She'd be able to see her mother as often as she liked and not be confined to one place. When she moved away, she spotted Tyler ahead. She felt it was always a bit strange even greeting someone you had a crush on when you were younger, but she was grown now and things in the past should bother her. "Hi," she said, passing him by on the way to the dining hall for breakfast.

message 21: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Got it She said, quietly pulling her bow down from her shoulder and notching an arrow. She waited calmly. They'd done this countless times. With their ability to communicate, the two of them together were two of the best hunters in the clan.

"Hey." He said, giving her a quick smile as she walked past. He was also on his way to eat something before his first class. What he wanted now was to start getting real life experience. He was more than ready for the classes to be over. How much more could they really fit in in a couple of weeks?

message 22: by Giulia (new)

Giulia When everything seemed perfect for the hunt, Ander jumped from the bush he hid behind, spooking the deer who pushed all his weight onto its back legs for a forward pounce. It began galloping in the right direction as Ander followed, swiftly jumping hurdles and ducking the branches, constantly using his vision to check if it was going as plan. If not, he throw one of the many rocks he carried to scare it onto the correct path. 'Coming up and coming fast,' he reported.

Luna entered the circular canteen and lined up for the usual, well-balanced and processed fare, collecting her food in its tin tray and looking for somewhere to sit in the crowded hall. Her friends were at a full table so it was up to her to intrude or pick one of the four-seater tables for herself. Finally, she decided on the one by the window, looking into the standardised and boring garden which consisted main of shorn grass and one or two twig-like trees.

message 23: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) I see it. Avery said, moments later, bringing up her bow and firing an arrow. If the deer moved in a bit of a different direction than she was expecting she'd use her powers to move the arrow slightly in the direction of the deer. Maybe one day she'd be able to just use them to hold the deer in place, but she wasn't quite strong enough for that yet. It took couple arrows but the deer feel, Avery moving towards their catch. We got it.

Tyler moved over to a table with a few of his friends after getting his food, a table that was near Luna's. Him and his friends all had similar studies and he was hoping they'd all get the same assignments in a few weeks. It was unlikely they'd all go to the same place though. He knew that, but still hoped.

message 24: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Ander swiftly ran to where the deer died and looked down on the newly killed carcass, still panting a bit. "Nice work. I see you got it straight in the neck as well," he complimented, dropping all the rocks he held for the hunt. "Come on, it's a long haul back to camp." He grabbed its legs and expected her to take its forelegs and head so they could carry it home.

Another one of Luna's friends joined her so they shared small talk over the breakfast. News in this compound was old and re-circulated constantly. Information was constricted and censored; the news announcements they received every week was practically propaganda in substance. This friend of hers was a doctor in training, making her wonder whether she had been placed as a nurse because she didn't have the skills or intellect to become a doctor.

message 25: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Avery grabbed the deer's forelegs as she walked back towards camp with him. "My powers helped a bit with that." She told him as they walked through the underbrush. Wonder if anyone else got anything today? She asked as they got closer.

((Want them to get caught soon? And not really sure what to do for Tyler. We need something interesting to happen to them .))

message 26: by Giulia (new)

Giulia ((I figured once they were caught, Tyler and Luna could be brought to a 'special announcement' and then I've got a plan from there))

'If we have some berries and nuts, that'll serve us well tomorrow and perhaps the day after. Then, we can try our hand at fishing,' he suggested slyly, wondering how his sister's powers would fare underwater. They walked back along their usual path, shown by the downtrodden foliage, yet however, there was something unusual about it that he picked up. Sometimes his intuition told him these things, and perhaps they were part of his powers which he had not fully understood yet, but he believed in them.

message 27: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) ((Yeah but until then just rping them at school is kinda boring. Want to hold off on them for a little bit?))

Fishing sounds like it could be interesting. I say let's give it a shot. She agreed, ready for the challenge. Then she frowned, realizing something was up with her brother. What is it? She asked him, still keeping hold of her half of the deer.

message 28: by Giulia (new)

Giulia ((Sure))

'I don't...' he started, stopping and gazing about the forest. Using his vision, he double checked their surroundings and saw nothing out of the ordinary. 'Avery, I feel like we're being trapped but I don't know where we can go,' he finally told her hurriedly, setting down the deer and tensing up into a lowered position.

message 29: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) She frowned as she sat down her half of the deer as well, looking around them as she drew her knife. Any clue what it is? She trusted her brother's instincts. They'd never been wrong in the past. What kind od trap?

message 30: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'Definitely sensing a disturbance north-east of here,' he finally pinpointed. It felt like some sort of net trap, like how one would catch rabbits. And then, they heard it. A whirring sound, completely out of place in this natural forest. Using his vision, Ander saw through the tree canopy and found a hovercraft coming towards them. 'It's on top, duck down!'

message 31: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) She ducked down behind a nearby bush, pulling him with her. When it came into view her eyes widened. It's heading towards the camp. She said noting the direction it was going. Hopefully it would miss it. Hopefully it wouldn't see them. ander what can we do?

message 32: by Giulia (new)

Giulia He crouched by her side, still gazing up at the passing craft. 'You're right. We need to warn them somehow,' he agreed, starting to think up of a plan to alert everyone there. Maybe if they ran, they risked capture but they could save those at the camp. He relayed this thought to his sister.

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) She hesitated briefly but gave a tiny nod. It's worth a shot. Hopefully we can warn them and all get away. Or had the others heard the hovercraft already and hidden? Why couldn't the people from the city just leave them alone? Ready? She asked him, getting ready to run herself.

message 34: by Giulia (new)

Giulia He inhaled and nodded quietly to her. He then sprinted from their hiding place, keeping low but moving at a fast pace. Again using his vision, he spotted the traces of the camp and directed them northwards. When they got near enough, Avery could surely use her powers to scare everyone into hiding. Even if their belongings were found and taken, at least the members were safe.

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Avery was right behind him, not slowing down to look overhead to see how close the hovercraft was. Do you have a plan?

message 36: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'If you could use your powers to scare people from camp or alert them somehow - knock over pots, shake a tree, anything that is out of the usual that they will understand,' he suggested, keeping tabs on the hovercraft. It wasn't going particularly quickly, suggesting it was scanning the forest for something in particular.

message 37: by Elizabeth (last edited Jun 27, 2015 07:08AM) (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Got it. She said. Can't shake a tree easily but can definitely throw some stuff around. They were nearing camp now. She started tossing some rocks and other this in the direction of camp. when it actually came into her distant view she concentrated on picking up what she saw and tossing it around. She wasn't looking up to see where the hovercraft was, letting Ander keep track of that.

message 38: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'Just keep focused on the camp, I've got your back,' he replied to her with a serious gaze, a hand hovering near the small of her back to steer her to safety if needed. The hovercraft began its descent onto the camp.

message 39: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Thanks. She said, lifting a few bigger things. It was harder and she stumbled a bit as she threw them around. As the hovercraft began to lower she just hoped that everyone was safe.

message 40: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'I think I see them fleeing,' he reported, relieved as he saw figures running from camp with his vision. The hovercraft then landed in the square in the middle of the camp and fell silent. Ander insisted to Avery that they go and hide.

message 41: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Good. She said, a bit exhausted from using her powers so much in just a couple minutes, especially once she started throwing around the larger things. She gave a nod at him when he said they needed to hide, going with him into the deeper brush where they could hopefully find somewhere they wouldn't be seen.

message 42: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Every time he hid with her, he thought about the consequences of them being caught: they'd both be and neither twin would be without the other even if one twin could work to free the other. Wherever his sister went, he would go without question. 'There are people descending from the craft...two, three...tranquilizer guns, masks...all from the Inside.'

message 43: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) She shuttered a bit, ducking down even further. Why can't they just let us be?. She hoped everyone had gotten away. that no one would be caught. How long do you think they'll stay?

message 44: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'Can't tell. They're inspecting tents in silence. They may be a while.' he told her, watching through their bush as the men flipped aside their tent flaps and peered inside for any Outsiders. He hoped everyone had hidden themselves sufficiently.

message 45: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Avery held her breath while she remained crouched in the bushes with her brother. She was relying on him to keep her updated about what he was seeing out there. The fact that the Insiders were so quiet worried her. This was different. The raids that did happen were never this silent. What did they want?

message 46: by Giulia (new)

Giulia ((By the way, are these two unique in their powers or do all Outsiders have it?))

'This feels so wrong...they're checking out our tent...taking our things...why us though?' he asked to her, slowing his breathing as to not attract the attention of the nearest soldier who stood at the edge of the camp, inspecting the perimeter. Moving now would be too dangerous, but staying where they were became increasingly unsafe.

message 47: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) ((We said that most Ousiders have powers. but they are unique in being telepathic because of being twins.))

I don't know... She replied, biting her lip and staying as still as she could. She tensed slightly though when she heard footsteps in the brush. Were they beginning to search the perimeter? Ander what's happening? Avery asked her brother. What do you see?

message 48: by Giulia (new)

Giulia ((Gotcha))

'There's one really near to us...' he reported, his tension peaking to a high as he balanced on his toes in preparation for escape. 'You might need to keep him quiet if he approaches any closer...'

message 49: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) Can do. She replied, mentally gripping nearby rock in her mind as she got ready to knock him out if needed. Should we run? The hair on the back of her neck was standing on end. He was close, she could tell that now. She wanted out of there.

message 50: by Giulia (new)

Giulia 'No, not yet,' he insisted tersely, checking the situation again. They seemed to have found nothing and now were convening and discussing in the centre of their camp. Their man hadn't approached any closer. 'Wait, they're adjusting something to their eye pieces...I don't know what it is...maybe another filter for vision?' he explained hurriedly.

((Btw I mean thermal vision to locate them but I mean, Ander doesn't know that))
