McKensie and Lara III

Lydia smiled and kissed his lips carefully "I want it to be a grand party for every age, the hip new big band music and learning how to dance the fox trot and all those....new interesting dances." She said eagerly "i refuse to wear a big ballgown im going to wear a flapper dress and start the revolution of the 20s."

James listened to her talk, and his smile slowly grew wider. "My progressive girl." He said softly, so proud of her. She had a vision and a dream, and passion, and it was so inspiring to listen to. "That sounds like the party of a century." He promised.

Lydia smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck "you can wear a fedora...and a pinstriped suit...you'll be the cats meow...every girl will want you as your dance partner...but I'm going to be selfish and keep you to myself...what should I serve food wise?"

James laughed softly. "A pinstriped suit?" He repeated, hardly able to imagine himself in one. But he knew well enough that women seemed to like him. James was not an ignorant man. He chuckled. "Don't worry about that, Lydia. I'm only yours, I promise. But we can't be antisocial." He raised an eyebrow teasingly. "I'm sure all the men will want a chance to dance with the princess." He pointed out. "As for food… well I'm not that picky love…"

Lydia shook her head "I don't want to dance with anyone but you...but mother will insist that I dance with all the partners, but we get a special dance just for us...it will let everyone know of our love and hopefully soon engagement."

James smiled, feeling himself swell with a sort of feeling he knew to be pride. He had a girl who loved him. Regardless that he was a player. Regardless that he was blind. Regardless that there were millions of other rich men she could dance with. "Engagement?" he teased. "Are you hinting at something love?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He would propose, but he was waiting for the right moment, when everything settled down. Right now was still too hectic. He grinned, shaking his head. "I love you, Lyida, I hope you know that."

Lydia smiled and traced his lips with her fingers "yes...I do know that James, I'm sorry that I'm rushing things...but I don't like that I can only see you for a short time and then be away for even longer." She admitted and smiled softly "I wish it didn't have to be a huge Royal wedding I'd rather it just us..."

James nodded then, his smile sapping into a more serious glance. He understood. And he hated being away from her as well. But in this stage of healing, he knew he had to be there for his mother and family for a bit longer. He couldn't just run off on them again. "I know." He whispered. "But just think of all the years we will spend together one day." he whispered. "And dwell on that, not the fact that we must be apart for a short time now." He whispered. Then he thought for a moment. "We could have a small secret wedding first." He offered. "But I believe we will have to have the whole fancy thing at some point… seeing that you are royalty." He teased, squeezing her hand.

Lydia smiled and caressed his cheek removing the blindfold and caressing the gas burns slowly "my mother thinks the Royal physican could help you, it scares me to have your eyes under the knife.,.but I want to give you hope as well my love..." She smiled "still feels like someone else not me...I don't feel Royal, I don't feel anything except happiness to meet my family and be with you..."

James's breath hitched when he felt the blindfold removed. He stood very still as he felt fingers running over his face. He nearly winced, as he hated to think what she might be looking at right now. But he held his ground and hoped it wasn't too ugly to bear. "You were always regal in my eyes Lydia." He said softly. "You have a sort of passion and fire in your eyes that most people don't have." he whispered. Her eyes… he would never see them again. It was enough to make his voice crack.

Lydia caressed his face and smiled "it's not bad at all..." She assured and smiled "in fact it only affected the centers not the whole eye...I'm sure the doctors could cure them make you see again...if not I'll still love you nothing will ever change that."

James found himself feeling hopeful. Not that bad? Only the pupils? Maybe he would be able to see again. But even if he did, he would still have the scars around his face. "I hope they aren't that incredibly hideous." he said softly, reaching up to run his fingers over the damaged flesh. He smiled a little. "I won't be quite so handsome anymore. But if I could see you again…"

Lydia shook her head "your heart is the most handsome one I know..." She whispered meaningfully and smiled "I think it makes you look strong and courageous...member when I got hit? I thought I was hideous...but what did you say?"

James could feel himself blushing and he smiled softly, leaning his forehead against hers. "I said you were beautiful no matter what some bastard did to you." he whispered, stealing a kiss. Maybe he could deal with this. If she still thought him handsome then maybe he could deal with this. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

Lydia smiled and cupped his face kissing him with passion and love "exactly...and I say the same, I love you for you not because of your looks...they used to intimidate me to be honest."

James let himself relax against her, feeling much better after her words. "Thank you love." He said softly. At her last comment, he chuckled. "Intimidating?" he asked softly. "I never thought I could be intimidating." he admitted honestly, brushing his thumb over her cheek.

Luis smiled gently "very, for a poor maid trying to pick strawberries you shook my world...and just kept coming back and turning me to mush...you were always there and I loved that, I was lost without you James...trust me I wasn't well...@

James smiled softly, loving to listen to her talk about her experience. He had no idea he had been perceived that way by her. "Oh Lydia…" he shook his head. "There was no reason to be intimidated. I was always intrigued by you." He promised. Then he paused. "Not well baby?"

Lydia sighed "I locked myself in my room for days when I got that yellow card saying you were presumed dead...I didn't eat not sleep think lady Macbeth crazy...without the blood." She smiled lightly "it's all good now, your back and alive..."

James felt his heart constrict and he kissed her cheek gently, feeling horribly. "I'm sorry Lydia… that I caused you that pain." he said, reaching up to gently caress her face with his hand. "I promised I'd be back, did I not?" he whispered, hating that she had been so affected by his absence.

Lacey sat by Maxwell and smiled kissing his cheek "you do not want to know what we were just discussing my love." She whispered giggling and taking his hand in hers.
Lydia leaned into his caress and nodded "I got scared...I called every general and they knew nothing...mother said you were probably dead...it killed me..."

Maxwell grinned, turning his face so she caught his lips instead. "Oh?" he asked, curious now. "well now you have to tell me then." he said, squeezing her hand and grinning. He kissed her cheek, smirking in challenge.
James's smile was genuine, but stressed. He had caused that. He and nearly killed her. He leaned his forehead against her, letting out a huff. "I'm so sorry." he whispered, kissing her, and then just shaking his head. "I'm so so sorry."

Lacey blushed and laughed "no! It might cause you to flee and I'm not letting upu go!" She said in protect but was still smiling.
Lydia kissed him deeply "all I care about is that your safe and here...I'm fine, please do not fret...Im afraid you have the habit of taking everything personally."

Maxwell rolled his eyes. "Cause me to flee? It's that horrific?" he asked, rolling his eyes. "Just what do you ladies of this day and age talk about?" he teased, glancing over at her as the drinks were poured. "Please don't tell me you're planning espionage."
James held onto the kiss, desperate to be able to remember her though the senses he had left. And he could only do that by listening to her, and touching her, and smelling her, now that his sight was gone. "I just wish I had not caused you such pain." he said, being honest.

Lacey blushed biting her lip and giggled "um, children...and our honeymoon night tis all" she whispered and giggled "sorry I'm just so embarrassed talking about this actually with you..."
Lydia shook her head "doesn't matter...come I think dinner is ready and Im starving." She took his hand and led him to the dining room "so this is what it looks like..."

Maxwell chuckled then, sitting back in his chair. "So you already have our family all planned out then…" He said, glancing out of the corner of his eye at her. "I don't mind, you know. I just think its cute that you're so organized, and planning ahead." he teased. "there's no need to be embarrassed about it."
James followed her in, relying on her to lead him into the dining room. He tied his silk blindfold on again, as his mother grew distressed when she saw the burns, and then went to carefully sit down, as the butlers assisted him. "What does it look like?" He inquired, curious. "and what is this we are looking at?"

Lacey smiled "it's just...I want to be a mom, and I know it's soon..,but I don't want to be that lady everyone judges for not creating a family."
Lydia smiled "oh right, I've never seen the dining room before...it's a surprise to be sitting st it now...but now I can be the judge of the new chef."

James had smiled at Marcoux, when he heard him talk, and nodded his thanks. "It's good to be back." He replied.
Maxwell nodded in understanding. "it's aright, Lacey, I totally understand. And I'm all for it, alright?" he asked, kissing her cheek. "But regardless, no one will judge you, I'll see to that. You're the most loved woman in this estate anyways. Everyone is happy for you no matter what." He smiled.
James nodded in understanding. "What is it like?" he asked, wanting to hear her input. "To sit at our dining table when for a long time you were cooking the meals that were eaten here?" He asked, wanting to be a part of her experiences. "I doubt our new chef is as good as you are, but I do believe he worked hard on this meal."

Lacey smiled and pecked his cheek "so that doesn't scare you? Kids and marriage? Most guys would be running quickly away to sweet freedom. But...I'm glad that you are excited for our future."
Lydia smiled "it's larger then I expected...I wish they would ask before placing the plates like that." She shook her head "not my responsibility anymore...it's beautiful the chef knows how to place the food elegantly...are you ok? Do you need help?"

Maxwell laughed then. "What is freedom without you dear?" he asked, taking a sip of the drink. "I already know I wish to spend my life with you, I just haven't planned anything further than that." he shrugged, smiling softly. "Kids will be nice, once we have them" He agreed.
James smiled, just enjoying listening to her speak. "It is a rather large room." he agreed. Then he chuckled. "Has he placed the dishes wrong?" He inquired. He felt around for the fork, and then found the dish with his other hand, stabbing the fork into the food until something stuck. "I'm learning to find things blind." he said honestly, shrugging. "Still a challenge sometimes, but I think I'm getting better."

Lacey smiled and lay her head on his shoulder and smiled up at him "yes...I can't wait to...start my life with you, I want to wake up in your arms with the little ones running outside with the dogs."
Lydia nodded and cut his food do he just stabbed the bites "that help? I think you are doung so wonderful James I wouldn't be able to be that strong and independent. I find it very attractive."

Maxwell laughed then kissing her forehead. "Yeah I know. I can take a hint Lacey. You might as well just propose." he teased. "I'm waiting for a good time, and its no fun when you know when that time is. So stop guessing. I want it to be a surprise." he teased, kissing her nose.
James smiled, finding it much easier to eat now, and he nodded. "Yes, immensely, thank you." He ate some more as she talked, and then smiled softly, feeling himself swell with pride. "Oh I wouldn't say I'm doing that marvellously… but thank you. I try my best." he grinned, regretting his inability to wink at her.

Lacey nipped at his nose "you are taking too long Max darling! I can't wait and I will propose if you don't before August...I have plans." She protested laughter in her eyes and smile showing that she was just teasing. "How do you put up with me?"
Lydia smiled gently and rubbed his hand "I love you...I wish I could just take you home with me...or stay here, I feel like a tame version of Romeo and Juliet..." She admitted and leaned on his shoulder "take me with you when you see the doctor?"

Maxwell chuckled, shaking his head. "I don't know whatever I'm to do with you." He teased back. He whispered in her ear. "I promise it'll be before August, ok? But no guessing when. I was serious about the surprise." He said, smiling. Then he turned back to his food. "I put up with you because Pan could never have quite as much fun without Tink. I love you my little fairy." he whispered.
James smiled softly. "I'd follow you home like a lost puppy." He whispered. "But not yet. I must set things straight with my family. I was to inherit the household, and now that I shall be living with you, it must pass to the next legible relative, Marcoux. I have to prepare everything for that." He said honestly, sighing. "I just hope he's alright with it. I know he gave his former inheritance to Maxwell." Then he chewed his lip, drinking more wine to hide his nervousness. "I'll take you along, if you wish to come." he promised. "Though I'm not sure how much I want to go." he admitted. He was quite nervous.
Lacey's mother frowned then, not being able to ignore the twittering and whispers and kisses any longer. "Would you all just go get rooms! Honestly. Young people these days!"

Marcoux nodded "I'd appreciate that Illi, sir." He spoke to the master of the house "would you allow me to pay off for Illi not to be a servant anymore?" He asked poletly so it didn't seem like she was a possession he never wanted her to feel like that.
Lydia shook her head "but what if it helps? What if you can see even a small amount? It would be worth the fear yes?" She asked and smiled "can you please excuse us sir? I need an escort to go back to the palace?"

Illiana stayed quiet, listening hopefully as Marcoux spoke with her master. She didn't mind that he was trying to buy her off. She knew her place.
The master smiled softly. "My dear Marcoux. At the end of the summer, she'll be yours, not mine. James is going to live with the future queen. Maxwell is taking your estate, and Lacey with him. And that leaves this estate, to you."
James sighed softly, nodding. "I know, Lydia. That's why I agreed to do it. Doesn't make it any less scary though, love. I've never had a surgery before." he said softly. It was very humiliating to even admit he was nervous about anything.
His father dismissed them both.

Marcoux smiled at Lacey and kissed her hand "she will be my bride not my maid...I don't know how I can own such a place...but I'm willing to try sir, James has a whole kingdom to care for."
Lydia hugged him tightly "it's alright...I know your scared I'd be scared too...but I know it'll be good and it's ok to be nervous. Your last surgery was in that dingy hospital in France...but this is the best doctor in Britain I trust him..."

Illiana flushed and looked down. She couldn't be prouder to be his bride. She knew she was exchanging one job for another. She would have to be a good bride to him.
Mr. Wendell nodded. "I know, Marcoux. I would never want to leave my estate to any one else." he promised.
James nodded slowly. "I know." he whispered, sighing. "I just hope it goes alright." he said honestly, shrugging. "And I guess if it doesn't… my eyes are already dead… so what could go wrong?" He asked, joking, half seriously nervous, half laughing.

Marcoux smiled "thank you, I hope to make you proud and of course it's still your place and I'll keep things the same, it'll be better to get around with my wooden leg.
Lydia sighed sadly and held him close "I just miss you being able to look into my eyes, and I want you to see our children and me at the wedding..."

Maxwell smiled softly, bowing to Lady Wendell and then taking Lacey's hand. "Where to?" he asked. "Want to play truth or dare in the attic?"
The master nodded, his smile soft. "Thank you, Marcoux. That will mean a lot to our family." he said, grasping his hand. "I'm happy to think of you as my son." he bowed to them both, smiling, as he left.
But Illiana had noted that his smile at her had been a little colder, maybe slightly disapproving.
James wrapped his arms around her, letting himself relax in her presence. She would be there. She could make sure they did everything right. Didn't matter that she didn't know any about medicine. As long as she was there, everything could be better somehow. "I want all that too, Lydia. And I'm very sorry that this has caused so much stress."

Marcoux nodded and took Illiana's hand "don't mind him, he has very old fashioned views of the world and it's hard to get used to a servant being a lady of a manor."
Lydia shook her head getting into the carriage and pulling him up "do not fret, I love you and I don't want you to stress at all ok? It's almost curfew..."

Illiana smiled softly, shaking her head. It didn't bother her. She knew she had been a maid, and still was a maid until she and Marcoux were engaged. "It's alright, Marcoux. I understand entirely." She had had those views pounded into her since she was young.
James followed her with her assistance and sat across from her in the carriage as it drove off to the palace again. "I promise I shall try my best not to stress." he vowed, one hand over his heart as he smiled. "It has been a lovely evening with you, Lydia."

Marcoux sighed "I don't think it's very...I don't know I wish that there wasn't the stereotypes that follow you all your life. If anyone saw you they thought you would be a true lady."
Lydia smiled and nodded "I agree my love...I wish I could just sleep in your arms tonight but the maids would gossip and I wish they wouldn't."

Illiana smiled softly and kissed his cheek, "Don't worry about it, Marcoux. Trust me, I'm used to the stereotypes." She took his hand and walked with him through the manor, just enjoying his company. "Besides, by all rights, I still am a maid…" She pointed out, her smile rather sad.
James laughed softly then. "I suppose you would know about the gossip from experience." he mused. "Are you new maids nice? Have you found some good friends?" he asked, not liking the idea of her being in a castle alone.

Marcoux shook his head "not to me your not...your my lady and I love you so much...I refuse to let you be a maid any longer. Instead you'll get the lessons from Lacey on how to be a proper lady."
Lydia shrugged "they let go of my best friend Emma...she was the one that pretended to be me...the other just...don't want to be friends they don't see me as an equal."

Iliana blushed, shaking her head. "You are too kind to me, Marcoux. This is far more than I deserve." She whispered, hugging him tightly. He had completely turned her life around by just loving her, and she knew she owed him everything.
James frowned, not liking that at all. Her best friend was let go? Because of a ploy to come find him? He felt a twinge of guilt. "And you mother was firm on the release?" he inquired. "Is there any way to get her back?"

Marcoux hugged her close and smiled gently "come let us get you to bed, you still look tired...healing is going to be a process and I want you strong my darling...but I'll still stay till you fall asleep."
Lydia sighed and nodded "Emma his the note I wrote so I wouldn't get into trouble...I don't know where she is now..."

Iliana nodded, walking hand in hand with him back to her bedroom. She kept him waiting outside while she dressed out of Lacey's dress, and then let him in again. She was waiting in bed already and she smiled softly. "This is my room." She gestured to the walls around them. "Not anything fancy, but it's mine." She shrugged.
James sighed softly, finally understanding what had gone on. "I see." He said, as they pulled up to the palace. "Well. Maybe if you find her again, you could discuss having her back with your mother?" he suggested.

Marcoux ftowned looking around at the shabby little room "I'll see if there is any open rooms upstairs, you deserve better then this my love." He kissed her forehead "I'm sorry I just think you deserve so much more."
Lydia nodded and smiled gently "thank you for the suggestion, will you like to come in? Maybe tuck me into bed...kiss me goodnight..." She whispered against his lips.
James chuckled softly. "Sense? There is hardly anything sensible about love, darling." He teased, pecking her nose, and proud that he was able to find where it was in one try. "You'll do great. And I can't wait to see how it turns out." he promised. "Do you have any ideas for what it will be like yet?"
