Me, too! Although... now I need to bump my "Summer" related books up, which could cause problems since I have a bajillion other books I want to read in the next two weeks, lol.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Aww Susan I figured you'd love it lol! Maybe you should check out those ones I found yesterday....NOT!
The one I'm reading is a naughty red riding hood and it's surprisingly decent.

message 503: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Does this count as a graphic novel or would I be able to claim it for this challenge?

Hyperbole and a Half Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh

There are pictures but it's not really a comic book.

message 504: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Cait that's hard to say without seeing it (I know nothing of this book). What percentage of the pages are pictures in your opinion?

message 505: by Cait S (new)

Cait S It's about 370 pages long and there's a picture on each page, but at least 40-45% of each page is text (regular sized book text. There's like one picture at the top of the page and it's big, and then from the center downward is all your standard book text.) I'm not sure what that would translate to overall, but the stories are told through the text so I would say that makes up the majority of the book.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Cait I'm gonna pick my fellow mod's brains right quick.

Cait S Thanks for checking it out, I appreciate it :) No worries if it won't work, just figured I'd ask.

870 users tagged it as a graphic novel.

message 509: by Cait S (new)

Cait S I know. But I don't necessarily think a book that has pictures is the same as a graphic novel. I would consider those to be full panels of pictures with text bubbles inside them and that's how the entire story is told. Not one picture per page with the story told in text beneath it.

I don't put a lot of stock into what people tag things as on Goodreads. They aren't exactly reliable.

That's 870 users though, it's not like 5 people. But in the spirit of fun competition, let me do some more research.

message 511: by Cait S (new)

Cait S It's not a big deal. I can not use it easily. I just had it sitting here so I thought I'd ask since it fit our task this week.

(Although I still say those 870 people are wrong but case rested lol)

Thanks, mods :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) Is it anything like the way her website is laid out, Cait? I only scanned the book in the store once so I don't remember how it looked compared to the site.

message 513: by Cait S (new)

Cait S It's similar in that it'll have the one big picture with a couple words and then a few big chunks of paragraph with the actual story, kind of alternating between those.

The book seems to have more substance/words than the website did. But that might just be formatting/the fact that there's a handful of stories as opposed to just the small anecdote she would do per post on her blog.

message 514: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Cait the publisher is advertising it as a graphic novel. While it might not be one in the traditional sense I've gotta go with it as one. With the loose listing of what's considered a fairy tale I've gotta stick with that on the opposite end of the spectrum. The old live by the sword die by the sword thing lol.

message 515: by Cait S (new)

Cait S No worries. Thanks, Jenne.

message 521: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments Jenne, can I just ensure I've got the scoring correct:

Our main task (White on the Cover) doesn't earn additional points, until we turn in 10 of them when we will receive 100 points.

The points we receive are from the mini challenge (20), the fairy tale retelling (50), the team name bonus (50), the author initial (50) and the page number (various).

Have I got that right? I just don't want to be mis-scoring in the spreadsheet...

Curse of the Beast by Ashley Lavering

message 525: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 182 comments One other thing, could you set a countdown for the end of the week for the challenge? So we captains can see easily until when we have to post our team achievements. Thanks!

message 526: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I can see it Juliana :)

Yes I'll go link a countdown clock on the mini's thread. It'll be the only thing that has a deadline.
There's no time frame on posting how your team has done either. To keep it from being overwhelming as soon as you've got 10 tasks finished I'd turn it in then along with any other points that didn't fit the task. But there's no set time frame.

message 527: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I posted this in the mini's thread as well.

Her Mad Hatter (Kingdom, #1) by Marie Hall

message 531: by Jenne (new)

message 537: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Is her hair blonde enough in the light to count as something yellow?

Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight

(I know, I know, I'm reaching. But I am out of renewals at the library with this so I had to ask lol)

message 545: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments We had a bit of a convo going on the mini thread and wanted to add these clarifications right quick.

I'll take season, noon since it's an actual time.
No to morning, evening, dusk, day, dawn that's of the same caliber as night.
A specific month, year, week, a specific day, century, minute, hour, second are ok.
No to past, present, future. Adverbs like before, finish, etc etc no also.
Sunlight and moonlight on the cover are ok too.

If anyone finished a book yesterday that the mini clarification in post 565 effects, edit your post and be sure your captain knows if the spreadsheet has already been updated.
