The best part of that quote is that Joker is singing it. The entire sequence is a twisted show tune.
I'm actually reading Volume 1 right now - they aren't really all that connected though there are a few recurring characters. I'd suggest reading the whole volume though - I think it would have more impact that way.

Just finished it. Pretty impressive return of the Laphams to their creator-owned saga."
Hi Corto. Is this volume 6, a stand alon..."
Hi Kenny Volume 6 appeared after a long hiatus and can very well be read on it's own. The arc is selfcontained, but of course you benefit by having read the previous volumes. It's the first volume after what is considered the original series, which would be a cool contribution to our discussion Forum too Stray Bullets: Uber Alles Edition
All three (vol6, vol 1, uber alles) are fine with me, just pick which you're most comfortable with.
Shutter, Vol. 1: WanderlostI read this during Spring break back in March, it's fantastic.
Volume two is being released in July.
How about an X-Men book like X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga which is the most recognizable X-Men story every written.
Irredeemable, Vol. 1The concept of "what if Superman (or a hero like him) were a villain" has been done a few times with varying effect in the comic world. This is Mark Waid's turn (same author who brought you Kingdom Come), and he makes something fascinating. Highly recommended. Start at the beginning and get hooked. :)
