During the summer I love spending time near the water, either by a lake or a sea. Because of this, I chose the theme of Dragon Kings for this task.

**Note: Books with the genre children or kids may NOT be used for this task.**

Read ONE book from one of the following options.

Required: State which option you chose when you post.

Option 1: Bodies of water
A Dragon King is a deity in Chinese mythology commonly regarded as the divine ruler of moving bodies of water, such as waterfalls, rivers, or seas. For this option, read a book that shows a body of water (e.g., waterfall, river, sea, lake, pond, pool) on the cover.
Examples: Moby-Dick by Herman Melville To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad Summer at Willow Lake (Lakeshore Chronicles, #1) by Susan Wiggs Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins
Required: include the cover when you post.

Option 2: Shapeshifting
The Dragon Kings have the ability to shapeshift into human form. For this option, read a book with the main page genre “Shapeshifters”. The genre may be stand alone or embedded.

Option 3: Royalty and palaces
The Dragon Kings live in an underwater crystal palace, where they have their own royal court. For this option, read a book with one of the following words in the title or subtitle: king, queen, prince, princess, palace, castle, royal, court. Plurals and possessives will work, but no other variations.

Option 4: Cardinal directions
There are four major Dragon Kings, each ruling one of the Four Seas corresponding to one of the four cardinal directions (East, South, West, North). For this option, read a book by an author whose initials can be found in one of the cardinal directions. Both initials (first and last) must be found in the same directional word. Letters may be used only as many times as they occur in the name of the direction. Middle initials should be ignored. Hyphenated names count as one name.
Examples: Susan Ee (EAST), Thomas Harris (SOUTH or NORTH), Nora Roberts (NORTH)
Required: State which direction the author's initials can be found within.

Camilla | 501 comments Not approved for option 1
Undertow (Undertow #1) by Michael Buckley only a puddle, not a body of water
Find Me by Laura van den Berg not verifiable as water

Yes, I can clearly see that it's a beach by an ocean, so it fits the task perfectly.

Does this work for a body of water? I think she is in a pool.

It would work based on the cover, but unfortunately it also has "Childrens" as a genre, so it's not allowed per the task rules.

SamZ (samwisezbrown) Does this work for a body of water? The woman is facing the Boston Harbor, and you can see a boat. I'm just not sure if enough of the water is showing. Thanks! Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden

Yes, I can see enough of the water to be able to figure out it's the sea.

Camilla | 501 comments JennRenee wrote: "will this work for body of water Undertow (Undertow #1) by Michael Buckley"

I'm afraid I'm going to say no to this one. I looked at the cover on Amazon and enlarged it, and whilst there is some water on the ground between the tents, it seems to be a puddle of rainwater, not a body of water in the sense that was meant in the task. You managed to get me to add it to my TBR, though!
If you want to read it, it seems it will fit e.g. tasks 15.3 book 2, 15.5, 15.8, 20.2 option 2 and 20.4, so maybe you could use it for one of those?

oh the woes of the ever growing TBR. :)

Sweet by Emmy Laybourne and Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan this one has the wave of the ocean in the picture frame.

Meghan (meghanly) | 336 comments How does this look for body of water? I think it is a wave in the ocean, but "artistically" turns into weapons! :)

Yes, despite the artistic flair there's enough water to be seen, so you're fine with it.

I'm sorry Meg, I'm going to say no to this one. I tried enlarging the cover on Amazon and I just can't be sure whether the blue stuff on the cover really is water. Are you able to use it for another task?

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 923 comments I was wondering if Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman would work for the water on cover?

I have Sweet by Emmy Laybourne slotted for this, but I've been listening to a lot more audio this time and I noticed that one as I was starting it.

If not, no big deal since I am reading the other one anyway. I just might finish Challenger Deep first, so figured it was worth asking.
