Freight Books (freightbooks) | 7 comments Ex-footballer turned author Arild Stavrum's crime fiction novel Exposed at the Back exposes corruption within the beautiful game.

"Finally, a football crime book!" - Jo Nesbo

“What setting could be more apt for crime, corruption and cover-up than multi-billion pound world of modern football?” - Doug Johnstone

Do quotes from authors you like make you more likely to read a book you've never heard of?

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Short answer, no.

Long answer, eh. Reviewing books is a different skill from that of writing them. You must also keep in mind that the writers who write your favorite YA, paranormal, and UF etc books are not teenagers themselves. J.K Rowling's influences as a reader herself are quite literary. She does not read the same genre as her devoted fans. It follows that most of her favorite authors WILL be obscure to her fans. The next generation of YA writers, however, will cite Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Suzanne Collins, Richelle Mead etc as their inspiration. You are best left with recommendations among your own peers. In my opinion.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Usually no, I don't pay much attention or put much stock into it.

An exception was this past weekend, where I went and got a series while browsing the bookstore, remember my favorite writer mentioning the author and how much she liked her stuff on social networking like facebook, etc. It stuck in my mind.

Michael (micky74007) Not really. Advertising is advertising. Take all of it with a grain of salt.

Not really. I usually don't even read all those remarks the authors make about books, which are often printed on the first few pages of the book. And even if I do read the remarks, I'm never much influenced by it. Truth be told, I usually don't read books according to recommendations given by anyone, be it friends or family or relatives. I prefer to choose my own books and browse for new books to read myself, instead of depending on recommendations. In fact, I can't remember the last time I read something which was recommended to me.
