What are you reading in June '15?
June already! Wow!Well, I've completed my reading challenge, so we're into the "Bonus Books".
I'm still reading Inverted Kingdom, which is Asian horor inspired by the Cthulhu myhtos. (Part 2 of a 4-book anthology quartet.) HIGHLY recommended for fans of Japanese literature or horror, or the Cthulhu mythos.
I'm re-reading "Wars of Light and Shadow" with Alissa and Amy (Currently on Book 2 The Ships of Merior for those wanting to join in. {Though you should read The Curse of the Mistwraith first!)
Just finishing The Last Child of Hamelin; highly recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in fairy-tales.
Also hoping to get back to my beginning-to-end Shannara readthru. Finished Sword trilogy, The Heritage of Shannara is up next.
I am almost done with Code Name Verity, which is excellent so far. Next I will be on to The Liar's Key, which is book two in Mark Lawrence's new series. Very excited about that one.
Brenda ╰☆╮ wrote: "Wish I could join you for Janny Wurts' books.Just to bogged down."
It's a low-pressure, informal thing. We'd be happy to have you if/when you can!! :)
Starting a Charles de Lint novel, "Promises to Keep," then moving into Lord Dunsany, "Tales of Jorkens." Looking forward to both.
Still working through The Wise Man's Fear. I've still got quite a ways to go, but I'm eating it up. :) Lots of ups and downs.I also started Wavesong a little while ago. This series is starting to get really long and drawn out. I'm not sure how much longer I can continue reading it, plus it's unfinished :/
So, I just finished binge-reading (and listening - the audiobooks are well done) the entire Retrieval Artist series by Kristine Kathryn Rusch - https://www.goodreads.com/series/4224...That's 14 books (I haven't read the several novellas yet) and the next one is due out on the 9th, so I'll be reading that one right away. I'm totally hooked on these!
I finished Queens Walk in the Dusk which was a strange little novel about Aeneas on his search for a new city after the fall of Troy and he meets up with Dido and they have a short romance. Interesting.
I'm about 1/2 way through Nefertiti's Heart which is kind of a sexy, steampunkish, mystery - fun, and the audio version is good too.
Next up either Three Parts Dead or City of Stairs probably. I get my next Audible credit on the 8th so I'll be getting Nemesis Games with that one. I think I need a fantasy in between.
Just finished A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas... Good easy and addicting YA read. now reading Ready Player One by Earnest Cline... Which is AWESOME! A must read if you are a fan of 80's video games and pop culture.
I just finished reading Fool Moon I didn't enjoy very much so I don't think I'll continue the series..I'm also half way through reading Sabriel which I'm enjoying.. Not sure what I'll be reading next though.
Reading Path of Daggers in World of Time series, and book 2 of night angel trilogy, along with the colour of magic. I also might throw in some random ARC books I need to review as well
I've started Catherynne M. Valente's Orphan Tales: In the Night Garden and I really like the story within a story structure it has and the mythological feel.I'm also listening Kristine Kathryn Rusch's Starbase Human and really looking forward to the last book, Masterminds.

I had a hard time rating Ready Player One as I loved the PC gaming stuff but the 80s cut and paste and lists drove me nuts.

Far far too much world building but perhaps it pays off if you go onto book two. I wasn't compelled to do so but it wasn't a horrible book or anything.
So I started reading The Way of Shadows (Night Angel #1) , but until now I am not so thrilled about it. Parallel to this I am reading the whole Bone, Vol. 1: Out from Boneville as a commute-read and really love it. It has a beautiful storyline. First I was a bit sceptical because it's a graphic novel but now I am 100% commited. Recommend it to anyone who isn't afraid to pick up a 1300 page graphic novel.
Also I would love to get some friend-invites or feedback about my reviews.

Just finished The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham. Very good but I suspect it wont appeal to everyone. Some excellent characterisation. There's a deep theme suggested at the beginning and end of the book that promises more to come. Little bit slow at times. Anyone recommend the follow up books please?

Night Angel series is worth reading so persevere.

Bone is great! Especially the way it starts as kind of a funny-animal book and ends up as truly epic fantasy.
Stupid, stupid rat-creatures.
While not essential, the Bone spin-offs (Stupid, Stupid Rat-Tails: The Adventures of Big Johnson Bone, Frontier Hero and Rose) are both quite good. But you can probably skip the YA Bone novel trilogy (Bone: Quest for the Spark, Vol. 1.)
Finished The Three-Body Problem, which was fascinating and alien, and, after her recent passing, started The Birthgrave, Tanith Lee's first adult novel (from 1977).
Joseph wrote:"..."I am right at that point now, where all the cudly forest-creature and more or less harmless rat-creatures turn into fearsome monsters and valuable companions, the war starts and sides have been chosen. Shit is about to hit the fan ;-)

Okay noted, but still like 500 pages left on the main book.

My ego doesn't allow me to quit on a book. So I will at least finish the first and after that evaluate if the next two (which are already standing in my bookshelve) are worth the time. So as long as the book picks up during the first book I am confident I will be able to finish the trilogy. But thanks for the encouraging words :-)

Oh, I loved that! If I ever had any doubts, The Curse of the Mistwraith is a personal favorite ever.
I'm slowly catching up to you guys in the re-read! Finished Mistwraith, and finally picked up Ships of Merior.
I would say ego causes the opposite reaction. I give up on books because I think my time is too valuable to spend on insipid plot.
Just finished the Trysmoon series by Brian K. Fuller, it was okay. I think next up is either going to be The Liar's Key or Knight's Shadow both of which dropped June 2. Both will get read, but as I am about to crash the decision will have to wait until tomorrow.
I've just started The Years of Rice and Salt, which has been sitting on my shelf for ages. Not sure what to think so far. I like the writing, but it's over such a long time period that I'm not sure if I'll engage with any of the characters, of which there are many!
I just started Perdido Street Station while I'm waiting on the Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic.
Philip wrote: "So I started reading The Way of Shadows (Night Angel #1) , but until now I am not so thrilled about it. Parallel to this I am reading the whole [book: Bone, Vol. 1: Out from Bone..."
I read the "Night Angel series" around Christmas time... I had the same feelings at the beginning, I couldn't remember all the names, I was struggling to understand some of the details and I found it a bit strange at points, but give it time and it will be amazing! It has mystery, battles, magic. It's really epic!
As for readings I'm still reading A Game of Thrones / A Clash of Kings I'm reading it in a really slow pace, ASOIAF is something like a summer project. I'm also reading The Demon Code, Gardens of the Moon and Uprooted which is really amazing so far and it has captivated me, I think it's a matter of days to finish it.
Just read Siege and Storm but I don't have the third book yet, so I took a trip to the library and scored Half a King and Fool's Assassin! Pretty excited for both of those.
Finished Night of Knives and found it a bit meh.Right now, I am halfway through The Martian - great read so far. Like a science and maths lesson in survival but with a healthy dose of humour.
I have just started reading Rivers of London I have heard good things about it so I am looking forward to it.
Evan wrote: "Just finished the Trysmoon series by Brian K. Fuller, it was okay. I think next up is either going to be The Liar's Key or Knight's Shadow both of..."I would warmly recommend both! If you liked Traitor's Blade you'll find the second installment more mature, complex and still greatly entertaining. Not a small page count but it reads marvelously, still a devil-may-care adventure. Same goes for The Liar's Key, I enjoyed it even more than Prince of Fools. Both can get pretty grim at times, but of course Lawrence is a terrific builder of tension and his plot structures top-notch. Falcio and Jalan are very different characters anyway, I wouldn't say opposite but... depends on which viewpoint you want to invest first ;)
Bev wrote: "The Vagrant by P Newman, Starborn by Lucy Housman, The Lie by C L Taylor . All good."Been wanting to read The Vagrant for a bitm but haven't gotten around to snagging a copy yet. :(
Reading/studying:Stara indijska književnost by Radoslav Katičić
also reading, for exercise:
Лутка by болецлав Прус
Reading, for fun:
The Plague, Albert Camus
Just finished Blood song by Anthony Ryan. One word, WOW. Now I'm starting on Half a King by Abercrombie.
Currently reading Carol Berg's Revelation, second in the Rai-Kirah series, if I like it Restoration will follow. Then I think it's finally time for Daughter of the Empire by Feist and Wurts, I don't think I'll ever be satisfied until I read all the books available, she is a great storyteller!
Then I'm not sure...R.A. Salvatore last two Drizzt's books are poking their spines at me. Or maybe The Goblin Emperor and or Uprooted?
Shari Kay wrote: "Finished the series
a young, but fun read."Read this series twice already. It's a great breather when you need a fun quick read.
Finished off Half the World at the weekend. I'm now working my way through the Harry Potter series as I've never read them and thought I'd give them a go, up to Chamber of Secrets so far.
If I have time at the end of the month I'm going to start Words of Radiance.
I started to read Mort by Terry Pratchett. I'm also almost finished with King Rat by China Mieville and I must say the book isn't that great, which is shame as he definately knows how to write and it shows also in this one, but the story just pushes me off so badly that I almost hate it.

Camus is one of my favorites! Hope you enjoy.

I managed to find an imported copy of The Goblin Emperor in my local bookshop, so that's going to be one of my next reads. Hope it's as good as everyone says!
Maarit, Mieville seems to be one of those writers you either love or you hate. Having said that, I think King Rat was his first book, and it's quite different to his later ones. I read it a few years ago, but it hasn't stuck in my mind the way Perdido Street Station or Embassytown have.
To say I wouldn't count myself a massive Mieville fan, I've just realised how many of his books I've read... Something about them keeps drawing me back.
This month I'm trying to finish a couple of books I started a while ago and for some reason put down. I'm about a third of the way through Mary Stewart's the Crystal Cave and I just restarted Andy Weir's the Martian. I'm really enjoying both books so far!
Amy: I've read almost all of Mieville's books and liked almost all of them and for me Looking for Jake and Other Stories has been the weakest of his works so far, but King Rat beats it for sure. The only ones I haven't read are Embassytown and Railsea, but I will get to them eventually. Just need a little break from him because of King Rat.
