I think i read this novel somewhere between 2011 and 2012, probably YA or NA level. I remember it very vaguely, but some points that stick out were the desert setting (cliffs were involved--I think there was a chase down the cliffs and they found refuge at the bottom of the valley?) and in the valley there is a tribe. One person walked through burning coal. A sword is another big point; I think they mentioned the sword being made in a special way, folded countless times? I feel like the title was something close to The Far Kingdom, but when I googled it nothing relevant came up so I might be wrong. Thanks for the help!
