#672 done - I saw that it was just "Inferno", so recombined it with those. Although it does look like the full Divine Comedy needs tidying up at some point...
#673: those just needed combining (separate editions of the same work combined, allowing ratings to be shared), not merging (deleting one book to allow it to merge into another, leaving just one edition), which I've done.This topic is specifically for merging deleting, so in future please start a new one.

I'm hoping to have a duplicate edition deleted of The Teamster. There are two Smashwords ebook editions. Please delete the version that has no cover I noticed it a while ago and don't know why it ever popped up.Thank you!

I'd like the one without a cover to be deleted, not merged. There's no reason to have 2 Smashwords editions. Is this not possible?

Well I guess I'll just have to be annoyed with the bot that uploaded it. Ultimately, it's not a real issue anyway. Thanks for answering!
#683 - The ISBN on the one without a cover was actually a valid ISBN for smashwords, and they had a cover, so I added the cover.The one that had the cover actually shows as not available on Smashwords, but looks like it was, or else they would not know the ISBN was associated with that book.

Philip and Lethe, based on your explanations, I realize what happened. Smashwords changed their preorder requirements a few days ago, so I unpublished my original pre-order version with them and swapped it out. So yeah, the original Smashwords edition is no longer published.Thanks for doing the research to figure this out!

Right, I think that's the full convo... Neither edition has been published yet (I just saw that Philip added a cover whilst I was looking into it).
The one that didn't have a cover (the one you wanted deleted) is actually on Smashwords; the one that had a cover, isn't. But neither have been published yet, plus no one has added the edition which isn't on Smashwords, so I'd say that it's actually safe to delete it (I've known ISBNs to change prepublishing before, so I'm assuming this is what happened, hence the two editions?). As Philip was also looking at it, I want to see if he agrees first...
Hi Susie. I just posted my explanation above. Also, I didn't know that Smashwords auto-uploads to Goodreads until I asked my question. Hence the convoluted route to figuring this out. Thanks to all three of you!

So does that mean that the original edition was never published?
The book was always only available for preorder. It will not be published until July 30.
#687 - I would agree also, I was going to let somebody from GR do the delete/merge decision though, since it did have an ISBN.BTW, I removed the ISBN10, from the valid Smashwords edition that got added, because it screws with the buy links for ebooks to have the ISBN10.
Thanks Philip. I also noticed that about the purchase links today, too. I thought it had something to do with series books not being able to have their own individual buy links. Glad to see that's not the case and that this situation hasn't been 100% user error.

Same here, I didn't notice that before. I've always added ISBN-10s out of habit, because I've noticed people using them to create duplicates... It will need to be noted if they ever do bring in the system for auto-filling the other part.
As for the deletion, let's wait for staff, then.

Yeah I did that for awhile too, but if there is an ISBN10 the ebook links do not work for kobo/B&N/Smashwords. Not sure about the others.

Are you sure that no editions were released with this cover, including ARCs (sometimes ebook ARCs have covers with them, too)?

I not even sure she does the ARCs thing. I just know the author email listed it, I saw it and saw it on her website so I added the new book, but the book has been released with this other cover and I read a comment on the author's website saying the release was a little late 'cause she was waiting for the new cover. I couldn't moved all the details from the second to the most popular edition but I didn't want it to look as if I made them seem like duplicates.

Either way why doesnt it just deleted? The reviews and ratings are by idiots who think theyre reviewing the book. This isnt a dvd review website now is it?
713-714 I think if there are ratings it's OK to merge with the corresponding book (will have to dig up a conversation with rivka, unless a super can confirm).

It says in the manual how to do it (near the bottom): https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/1.... Unfortunately I don't have time to do that right now, so if someone else doesn't get to it I'll have a look later.
