Marylene | 44 comments I guess right now, since I'm sort of a newbie (just the last couple of years) to paranormal, I'd have to say vampires...although I really like werewolves too. Haven't read any angels or fairies yet. I will eventually and I may change my mind in the future! Demons...hmmm...not so sure.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Horsman (kathywithak27) Werewolves and Fae for me :)

Rosanna Leo (rosanna_leo) I love so many. Grew up on vamps and still have a soft spot for them, but read about all of them. As a writer, I like to write about gods and selkies.

VAMPIRES, FARIES, WEREWOLVES, AND ANGELS

message 18: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (warpedline) | 201 comments I'm sick of vampires. Like, really, really over them. Too many "ugh" stories with them as protagonists for me.

I reckon werewolves and Fae :)

message 19: by Rosanna (new)

Rosanna Leo (rosanna_leo) My first love was vamps, but I find it changes every month or so. I'm a supernatural slut and like to change my mind. ;)Greek gods are my current faves.

message 20: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments #1 Vampires
#2 Fae (which are in my next book)
#3 Spirits

message 21: by Jill (new)

Jill (adecentmelody) I'm a bit worn out on vampires and werewolves, though I still like them both as supernatural creatures. The whole Twilight phenomenon really sort of opened the floodgates on these two specifically.

I think ghosts are interesting, but probably because the idea of ghosts in real life actually freaks me out a bit.

Most of all, I like new ones, like Gabby mentioned before. I like reading new things people come up with or new ways people interpret the old creatures.

Overall, though, I think any creature can be done well, it's just a matter of context and story.

message 22: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Angels for me, is there such a being so terrible and wondrous?

Exactly! There's always a new spin on old ideas. The best stories reinvent old tropes.

Which creatures have you tried this with? :)

message 31: by Jacqueline (last edited Mar 06, 2013 05:47PM) (new)

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments My current one, Dreams of the Queen (which is in the r2r section) has a new spine on zombies and aliens, and I'm working on another for later this year (which doesn't include Queen's sequel) that has a new version of fae/fairy. It's called Fairytale Apocalypse.

Apparently, LOL, I like mixing paranormal/sci-fi, romance and dystopian/apocalyptic genres. Go figure.

I'm also tossing around an idea for magicians/demons and M/M/F triangle. Already have a few chapters written.

Do you have a favorite that you're not tired of yet?

Faires or the fair folk they went from cute to nasty if you read City of Ashes: The Mortal Instruments you will see why.

I will never try of vampires, they have been around long before Bram Stoker stumbled upon a bio of Vlad Tepes.

I saw that happen in Darkfever too. The fae look like creatures from the movie Prometheus. :P

I'd read something called Fairytale Apocalypse for sure! I love fairy tale adaptations and the title alone makes me laugh.

I love the idea of magicians. I haven't read a lot of books that deal with them (and the one I'm reading right now--The Magicians & Mrs. Quent--has yet to have a magician actually appear, and I'm a little more than halfway through).

Totally DITTO! I need my vamps to be E.V.I.L.! I'd love to write a reimagining of Vlad Tepes that doesn't suck like The Historian

The writing was wonderful and it had a lot of build up creep factor, but it just petered out. ARgh!

I saw that happen in Darkfever too. The fae look creatures from Prometheus. I'd read something called Fairytale Apocalypse for sure! I love fairy tale adaptations and the title alone makes me laugh.

I loved Prometheus! I've read some of Moning, but not her Darkfever series, though I heard it's good. I need to put it on my to read list.

LOL, yeah FA was meant to be an eye-catching title. Here's the basic listing I have so far if you want to read the blurb. Fairytale Apocalypse- A Romance of Apocalyptic Proportions

I haven't written to many magicians lately, but magic is something I've written a lot over the years. I love inventing new world rules for magic or tech. I hate reading books that are "and it just works, ladeda" I want to know at least some of the details and world rules. But that's the science/tech side of me. But then when I write sci-fi it ends up more romance/sci-fi... sigh. So hard core sci-fi readers get ticked at me for mixing peanut butter with their chocolate, if you know what I mean. Then romancers are all ... why is there chocolate in my peanut butter????

LOL, but I LIKE sci-fi/paranormal, romance... What else am I gonna do?

Actually, I already found that and read it after you first commented on this thread. I clicked over to your profile and stalked you a bit. ;)

Is that what the weird feeling was?

:o)

I'm hope, hope, hoping to be done by the end of this year. Some day soon, I'll be posting a thread at that book site to sign up ARC r2r readers. But I don't want to start the waiting list too soon. I'm about 1/2 finished writing the first draft and now I've got an idea for its sequel.

message 38: by Jill (new)

Jill (adecentmelody) Once you go post it, I hope I get my name on the list before it fills up. :)

message 41: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Davis (sophiedavis) | 2 comments I keep saying that I am over Vampires, then I find a book/series that keeps sucking me back in! Most recently it was the Night Huntress series :-)

I also like something totally different/unexpected. I know someone mentioned Holly Black's Curse Worker series. LOVED IT!!!

"Undead and Loving It: Vampirism is Easy because Humans are Stupid."

message 45: by Jill (new)

Jill (adecentmelody) I would read the hell out of that book.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

GIMME. I like vampire comedies!

message 47: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments LOL, well it IS supposed to be a parody/drama. I've got a couple first draft chapters written, but only a vague plot at this point. I sort of want to poke fun a the Twilight sparkle and vampire trope in general.

Right now it's not very funny. When I write comedy, I have to go back and 'funny it up' during the second+ drafts. My brain tends to write too serious the first time out. *shrugs* Meh, I go with it. I do have a working cover draft though.

message 48: by Sherry (last edited Mar 13, 2013 02:11PM) (new)

Sherry Stanfield (thetemptationtrilogy) I like vampires and angels best :) I'm writing about revenants...I like them too!!

Brandy Nacole (brandynacole) | 72 comments Does anyone go through a faze with this? I have these fazes where I like vamps, then I switch to fallen angels, then to wolves, maybe some fairies, and then I need a vamp fix. I can't seem to stay fixated on you particular creature. Anyone else like this?
