Lyn McNeil | 33 comments I have had no luck trying to locate a novel I read in the 80s written in either the 1970s or 1960s about the lives of some teenagers in a high school, including a cheerleader, her football player boyfriend, a scrawny nerd and a bookish girl with a large nose and acne who gets rhinoplasty and facial treatments to try to fit in. In one scene toward the end of the book, the football player gets in an accident and winds up in the hospital, where the bookish girl visits him and he doesn't recognize her with her new nose. Football player tries to get the nerdy guy (they have become friends throughout the book) to bring a bunch of pills so he can kill himself. There were a few light moments, but obviously it was mainly a drama.

I have done about 300 google searches in the past few years to look for several books that I have not been able to remember, but this is the first one I have not been able to find. It was a story that has really stuck with me and I would love to try to find it again to re-read it. Needless to say, it is driving me CRAZY and any help would be appreciated!

Cheryl (cherylllr) It does sound memorable. Hmm.. maybe you dreamed it, in a vision, and now you've a mission to write it! :)

Lyn McNeil | 33 comments Ha! Now that's something I hadn't thought of before. My life is pretty boring - not much to write about, so it makes sense that I would have to dream to conjure something up! I know there is at least one other person looking for this book, because the only hit I ever got was in another forum much like this, and that was unsolved as well. Sigh.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Well, if another person is looking, then at least it's a real book. If the mystery is ever solved, we'll have to try to remember to report it to both forums.

CLM | 311 comments It does not sound familiar to me but maybe some of the people who have read Fix have also read it.

Lyn McNeil | 33 comments I FOUND IT!!!!!! Wow - I feel so free right now! I did some hardcore searching for about 5 hours today and finally did an advanced Google books search, and had to go about 5 pages in to find it. My persistence paid off, apparently!

Lyn McNeil | 33 comments I shelved the book in the group bookshelf. I think I did it right, but please let me know if I didn't. Thanks for the help everyone! :)

Congratulations, Lyn. You got the book added to the group bookshelf just fine. The only other task to do is that we copy the www address for the thread and paste it into the "Why this book" section so people can find the discussion that led to this book being here.

Once the book is shelved, we put [s] at the end of the post heading and move it to the appropriate solved folder.
And if you don't do this, then one of the moderators does, so don't worry!

Happy reading!

Cheryl (cherylllr) I admire your persistence and am happy for you. I might have to read this, just to see what was worth the hunt! :)
