Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I've listened to The Madness of LIM. It was well done. Not my favourite, but still well narrated...

Daughter of Smoke & Bone with Khristine Hvam takes out my all time top spot...

DoS&B is one of my top, along with Grave Mercy (Robin LaFevers) - book 2 is due out in April - can't wait

I'm on a long waiting list through my library for The Witness.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I think audible had it for sale when it was released for like $10 and I grabbed it, but never listened...so figure this is a good opportunity

The Witness has gotten good reviews.

Makenzie (makenziefay) | 496 comments Apparently my library is stocked in female narrators. I'm going to finish my 8th book for this challenge tomorrow, and I've just realized that I only have 1 with a male narrator so far. *sigh*

I really want to listen to Robert Petkoff, but my library doesn't seem to be very familiar with Kresley Cole.

message 109: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I also bought The Witness when it was on sale. I hope to read it soon!

How about Phil Gigante with the Highlander series? or with Christine Feehan's books (if her horror/PNR is up your street...). I seem to have the opposite problem in that all the books I originally was planning to listen were male narrators :)

D.G. | 4477 comments Me too, Jane. So far I have 4 males and 1 woman.

I'm going to have to put that on my wishlist on audible. I've got some credits to use.

D.G. | 4477 comments Oh and it was on sale recently!

BTW...did any of you downloaded Love in the Afternoon by Alison Packard at Audible? I think it might still be a freebie there.

It was very cute. I liked it.

I got that one. Glad to know you liked it. I'll have to put it on slate for this challenge as well.

message 115: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments It had a very original setting - both H & h are soap opera actors!

message 116: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I've had to shelve some books and find females... I was going to listen to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, A Short History of Nearly Everything and The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy. They are on the back-burner until I work out the rest of my books :)

message 117: by D.G. (new)

My library only has the 1st and 3rd Highlander books in audio. Someone explain that one to me. :/ Hahaha. Perhaps I'll have to read the second one real quick so I can listen to the 3rd.

I'll have to look over your lists to see what y'all are reading. :)

Hmmmm, I just went and looked at this and it's showing regular price for me...was there a promo code for it or something?

EDIT: Nevermind, just figured it out and downloaded it!

Also, Makenzie, do you know if your library has access to One-Click Digital for audio downloads? They have a different selection of books from the regular Overdrive catalog (Recorded Books titles) and they have A Hunger Like No Other. I know a lot of libraries don't use One-Click - only one of the several libraries I have access to does, but it's worth looking into if you haven't already. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a list of libraries that do use it...

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments I'm listening to Rush right now. And while the story is awesome and sexy, the narrator Adam Paul just does not have a good Dom voice. *sigh* it's just not deep or commanding enough.

I think this is the first male performance I've been disappointed with.

I'll have to check into that. I think they just have Overdrive, but I may be wrong. I just moved and haven't done much with the library yet (have 3 books to return today, actually. *makes mental note*). Thanks :)

Other than his voice not being...well...dominating enough, what did you think? Was it just the voice quality that you didn't like, or was the performance weak, too? I've seen his name before but have never listened to anything he has recorded.

Shell | 2 comments D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "I'm back to my male narrators...sigh..."

Is it because you prefer them, or is that just what you have on hand?

message 131: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I prefer male narrators in general but lately I've been in a classic mystery kick and most of those have male narrators.

to me his voice had an annoying nasally quality to it. I don't know, I just had a hard time believing that he would be this big, bad Dom. I think he may be fine in other types of stories, even romances, but not this type.

That makes sense, I've had that same experience where the voice just doesn't match the character. Sometimes you can get past it if the performance is exceptionally good, but not always.

I'm listening to this one right now. I'm actually not sure if I'll be able to fit it into my categories for this challenge, but it is very cute! I think I may start DVR-ing Days of our Lives now......

D.G. | 4477 comments Question, Jane - I'd like to listen to Cloud Atlas. The narration has 4 guys and 2 women (don't know in which proportion.) Could I consider it a dual narration?

message 137: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I counted a three way narration of mine DG

message 138: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Doesn't it say dual or cast narration somewhere? I thought I read that.

message 139: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I just asked Jane - but origially I had said duo/multiple/cast narration - to encompass the 3 or more situations...it might have gotten dropped

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments Dee wrote: "I just asked Jane - but origially I had said duo/multiple/cast narration - to encompass the 3 or more situations...it might have gotten dropped"

I took the duo narration to mean that there was at least one male and one female speaking part no matter how many actual narrators there were.

message 141: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments I just looked and it does say duo/cast narration in the rules.

Absolutely - so long as it is more than one, the gender mix doesn't matter...

message 143: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments I asked this with the last audiobook challenge, but I was wondering if it was the same for this challenge - is there a percentage of the book we need to listen to to be able to use it for the challenge? (The last one it was 80% I think.) I often switch over to reading when it is difficult or impossible to listen, so it does come up for me occasionally.

We'll leave it the same and I'll throw it into the rules so we don't forget. So long as at least 80% of the book is listened to in audio format, it will count towards this challenge.

Makenzie (makenziefay) | 496 comments Well, I've finished all 9 of the female narrators. Now I need to tackle the 1/9 male narrators.......

I did just borrow an ebook from the library that has the narration with it. Joy of joys, the narrator was a man!!

message 147: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments Finished:

Dark Desires After Dusk: This has to have been one of the best of the series so far! Robert Petkoff's narration is superb, and worthy of several cold showers.

Days of Blood & Starlight: Darkly Beautiful sequel that kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved it! Khristine Hvam's narration is amazing, one of the few female narrators I enjoy.

Currently listening to:

Patient Zero: Wow! Joe Ledger is Jack Bauer on steroids. It's a mile a minute listen, and I'm loving it. Ray Porter is the narrator, and OMG I want him to narrate romance novels. Deep, dark, growly that you can feel to your toes....this may be a series to devour quickly for me.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments I'm listening to Legion and I want to know where to put this. He's technically insane, so I'm thinking it can go into medical, but then he goes on this mysterious search for a missing person so I'm thinking maybe adventurer.

What are your thoughts?

Definitely agree! I liked this couple a lot more than the others. I thought they were more on an even keel (he's had a life before he met her.)

I'm sooo looking forward to the next in the series!

D.G. | 4477 comments I haven't read the book, Sassafras but they both seem to fit. I'd say pick the one you know you iwll read the most. After all, we have a certain number of themes depending on the level. :)
