If everyone is having serious issues with this appellation - we can change the name :)
Thanks for all the duo suggestions. I do read mostly YA, so I'll look through those. Across the Universe was on my list for awhile.
Instead of saying 'unemployed', maybe changed to 'retired' or 'lady of leisure' or even 'homemaker'. I don't know but unemployed has sort of negative connotations.
D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "Instead of saying 'unemployed', maybe changed to 'retired' or 'lady of leisure' or even 'homemaker'. I don't know but unemployed has sort of negative connotations."I guess it could. But is the issue more with the word 'bludgers' or with 'unemployed'? ...or both?
OK - no feedback so I just changed both words since they were distressing for some of you :)The last theme now reads:
*On The Bench ('at liberty'/homemaker/royalty/heirs/heiresses)
Macleod Andrews (male narrator of Pushing the Limits) is one of my newest faves. He has just the right balance of growly yumminess and sensitivity.Joyce Bean...she does an okay southern Mac in Darkfever, but GAH her male voices suck a**! *shudder*
Gotta stick with Joyce for two more books Shell - then you get Phil G and Natalie Ross! They are great!
I know, I know. This is why I'm re-listening. I loved the 1st 3 books in the series, but really disliked the last 2. I'm hoping that Phil and Natalie will bring the magic to the series for me @ the end.
I must say, the books do get very complex! I read the first two and then went and bought the whole series in audio, listening through from start to finish. I think that was the only way I worked out what was going on...
Jane (PS) wrote: "I must say, the books do get very complex! I read the first two and then went and bought the whole series in audio, listening through from start to finish. I may have to start over and listen to them back to back too - my retention of details (and sometimes even major plot lines) stinks in the best of circumstances!
The first two aren't too bad, but it would probably help to re-listen to them. From book 3 to 5 my brain was struggling to keep up! ;)
I don't know what happened with Joyce Bean in the Fever series. She does a great male voice in one of my favorite audios by her: Cry No More
I'm already on my third audio narrated by a guy and no women so far...sigh...I really prefer them to women.
finished my first book finally...I never thought I would say that I missed my long commute...it just took me 11 days to listen to a book that I would have finished in 4 days normally
Dee wrote: "finished my first book finally...I never thought I would say that I missed my long commute...it just took me 11 days to listen to a book that I would have finished in 4 days normally"I know what you mean - I had about a 4 hour round-trip commute for a couple of years, and one of the few good things about it was having plenty of audiobook time...I finished Outlander in just over a week! :D
Elizabeth wrote: "Jane I'm listening to Matched but I can't fit it in any category:(What do you think?"
I know how you feel. I just finished the trilogy. I swear every time I update this challenge, I change the category. They are teens, and during 'Matched' they are in school, so I thought students. It's also a dystopian novel, so I was thinking politics. I've also thrown around adventurers too.
I guess what that rambling means is that I'd be curious to know the answer as well, Jane. :)
I would say politics or students having read it - I think the politics would take precedence, since it is primarily about them
i would agree with DG and Makenzie - Warriors for the 2nd, and either warriors/medical for the 3rd - depending on which themes you were using
I haven't read these books, so I can only go by the cover blurb which doesn't really reveal what/who they are. From the above comments, it sounds like Matched can be either 'Teachers Pet' or 'Suits'.
I think it go changed - it is australian for someone who doesn't work - be them on welfare (dole); rich etc
I changed 'Bludger' to 'On the Bench' as some of the members didn't like the connotations. I also had 'unemployed' which was changed to 'at leisure' as part of the descriptors to that theme :)Basically, we tweaked the names about a week ago so that ppl felt more comfortable using that category...
Robert Petkoff! I love you! Just listened to Kade's book in the IAD series and it was great. I really hope the next one is released soon!

I'm listening to Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night currently - loving it!!

According to the Simon & Schuster website, Kiss of a Demon King is due out around May 7...unfortunately the next three don't have any audiobook information posted yet. :(
I started over in audio last month and I'm trying to stretch them out so that I won't catch up until they've all been released, but I'm not holding my breath!

Ahhhh...y'all have me wanting to listen to that series. Too bad my library doesn't have them. :(

It's awesome! For my money, it has the best overall. The heroine was a bit out there but I liked how he worked around her neurosis.

I've been listening them as they've been released. Usually I pre-order them (the only audios I pre-order.)
May is not that far away! I'm dying to know what happened with Rydstrom!
trying to finish up my second, but oy vey I want to beat the heroine around the read - Hard Evidencenow I got to decide if I want to start my 3rd one - or wait until the Audio nominees are annouced and use my category for those (for another audiobook challenge)
Dee wrote: "trying to finish up my second, but oy vey I want to beat the heroine around the read - Hard Evidence"That heroine brought the rating down for me.
yeah - it is an annual awards thing - kind of like the oscars but for audiobooks - they have different genre awards - romance, fantasy, mystery/thriller etc - one of the blogs that i follow (the literate housewife) is doing a version called the Armchair Audies where different blogs sign up to listen to the books in a category and write reviews of them prior to the announcement of the winners
Interesting. I'd like to know who the nominees and winners are. Could get some good books from that list... I'll check the literate housewife's blog to see if she links through to the website that will post the noms and winners. Thanks!
they haven't been officially annouced yet - but some of the publishers who have nominees have been posting/tweetinghere are the 2012 winners/nominees - 2012
Thanks Dee! That's a great link. I already have a couple of those books to read, but I'll look more closely at some of the others now as well :)
What I don't like about that list is that if the publisher doesn't nominate the book, it doesn't show up there. That's why I don't even look at it.
well, they are like the oscars for audiobooks, the general public doesn't write in for those either...they are all nominated by a committee
Ugh, did anyone like the book Gabriel's Inferno? I am listening to it right now. The narrator has a yummy voice but that's the only thing keeping me interested! The story is sooooo slow. I need someone to tell me it gets better!
The Audies are not even nominated by a committee. The publishers submit their own books and they go from there. So if the publisher doesn't do that (for whatever reason), they are not even considered, no matter how good the audiobook is.That's why the romance selections are always so weird.
this years weren't so bad from what I saw - a Nora roberts; Jennifer Ashley (Madness of lord Ian), Sharon Sala; maya Banks and Elizabeth Hoyt - all relatively well-known ones...but we never see what books each publisher nominates...for all we know, they could submit their entire catalog for the year
these are the romance ones:ROMANCE
Don't Cry for Me - Sharon Sala, Narrated by Kathe Mazur, Audible Inc.
The Witness - Nora Roberts, Narrated by Julia Whelan, Brilliance.
Scandalous Desires - Elizabeth Hoyt, Narrated by Ashford MacNab, Hachette Audio.
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie - Jennifer Ashley, Narrated by Angela Dawe, Tantor Media.
Never Seduce a Scot - Maya Banks, Narrated by Kristen Potter, Tantor Media.
I haven't listened to any of them and I think I can fit them into this challenge - i'll have to play around with themes though
