Excellent choice! I see it as an opportunity to take a break from Infinite Jest (that glass is half empty). What happened to your gourd, Jason?
My phallic vegetable has been retired.You're not loving Infinite Jest, huh? I like it but it is taking me forever. At this rate I won't be done before the spring thaw!

I'm liking Infinite Jest BUT it's easy to put down and not so easy to pick up again. I hope your gourd was given a proper burial (phallic? I never noticed!)
I started reading this yesterday. After a slow start the momentum really picks-up. I found the track reenactments underwhelming, except for the descriptions of Nazi Germany, but once the war begins it is riveting. I want to keep reading but I can't keep my eyes open...
I'm going to clone myself a second pair of eyes so I can read twice as fast and catch up.
Jason, help! I've copied and pasted my review all over the place. My cyber skills are seriously deficient...

I loved this book!! But I am a sucker for true stories. I agree it had a slow start when he was a little boy but picked up quickly and even more when war started. I think this is one of my quickest reads even though it's quite long. BUT all you kindle readers out there, you only have to get to 75% since the last 25% is acknowledgements, references, ect. I made my dad read it and he read it in one weekend.
I'm glad to hear this, Melanie. I am SO BEHIND with my reading that I'm pleased to know how short this one is.
I read this book a while back but it was AMAZING! It did a great job of showing the hardships of those who were captured by the Japanese.
I'm going to start this next week, finally.

Guys! I finally read this book!I really liked it. I thought the epilogue was kinda hastily assembled and seemed a little scatter-y, but I loved the storytelling. Dude had it rough.
I think it would have been "happier" to end the story at the time Zamperini made it home and saw his family again, but I'm glad for Hillenbrand's decision to keep it going, as there was much more to his life (obviously), which certainly didn't end just because the war did.
