Lacie Wickware gorman | 3 comments I am trying to find the title of this book for my son. It is about a son who takes over his fathers trapping business when the father breaks his leg. I do not know anymore than this.

Lacie--I'm moving this down to "Unsolved" for you--you'll have more people checking it out there.

And on the book--is this something he needs for class? Or a book he's heard about? Anything at all else you can tell us?

Possibly The Trap? It's the only one that comes to mind at the moment. But it's a 17-year-old boy taking over his grandfather's trapping business after the grandfather disappears (I think...it's been awhile since I read it.)

I remember a book (or possibly short story) that we read in school, back in the late 60's or early 70's that had this theme--but it was a historical story, not modern. Any way to ask your son for more info Lacie?

Lacie Wickware gorman | 3 comments Unfortunately this is all the info he has. His English teacher was telling him about it for a possible book report. I will pass this on to him. Maybe it will help. Thanks for your help!

I'm not finding this title on Goodreads or on Amazon. Are you sure about the title? I'd love to know more, please!

This appears to be solved, it's just that the particular book can't be located...

bookel | 4027 comments If it were that exact title it would turn up on worldcat.org, but I haven't found it there...

I searched on Amazon for Swing Sifter and Swing Shifter, nothing came up.

A swing sifter is an actual thing, it sifts materials for industrial applications. I'm not seeing that it has anything to do with trapping animals, though.

bookel | 4027 comments According to Google Books results, a swing sifter is "Our most interesting discovery was the "swing sifter," a type of elevator in which small buckets were attached to a four-inch-wide cotton belt. The belt stretched from the basement to the third floor. The small containers on the belt would pick up ..."

Cheryl (cherylllr) I did some searching, too, and haven't found anything that fits. But still, I think this thread should be moved, as the OP is satisfied (even though we're still curious!).

Next mod can move it - maybe to possibly solved?
