What do you think the rebels are after?

Is there a secret plot to overthrow the monarchy?
Is it to rid themselves of the oppression caste system?
Anybody have ideas on what the rebels might want?

I'm not sure exactly. It sounds like there are different kinds of rebels. One appears to be trying to do the two things you said. The others might just want power.

I'm actually more interested in figuring this out than thinking about the love triangle aspect of the book...I think that maybe the northern rebels (the less violent ones) are looking for a small item, since they ransack bedrooms and look in drawers and such.

What item, small enough to fit in a drawer, would you risk your life to recover?

It probably isn't something "power" related as they're not trying to hurt anyone, unlikely a weapon of mass destruction or anything like that. Maybe something symbolic to them as a people? Like a historical..something...from their country?

I doubt any of the rebel groups care about the caste system as it doesn't apply to them if they don't live in that country right? they're from across the border (from the north and south) which means Ilea (sp?) shouldn't be able to control anything about their lives, they'd be revolting against their own government if it was about the caste system. From what I understood, the rebels are self-governing so they may or may not apply the caste system to themselves at all...

As for overthrowing the monarchy, that may be what the southern, more violent rebels are after, they strike hard, and don't hesitate to kill people so that may be what they want. Maybe their leader has a personal grudge against the king? Maybe it's a group of people who want to de-throne the king and establish a democracy?

Daphne??? I missed this part inj the book, i guess...explaine plaease! :)

I think i missed the daphne bit as well..

Ya... I think they ethier want power or they hate the caste system.
I also have a strange feeling that the King might be like evil or something. I just get some sort of bad feeling from Maxon's dad.

I addressed this in my review(http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...)

Rephrased here - I believe the rebels want to find a document of some sort that establishes the true intentions of Ilea's founder - I suppose this document is somewhat similar to the US Constitution in that it espouses freedom and liberty (without the caste system that is currently in place). Finding this document will be an affirmation of their rights and bring them a step closer to equality (and out of their poverty). America Singer will somehow be involved in this reformation.

(Also, I just wanted to warn you that I didn't like the book overall and my review reflects that! But this is my theory of what's going on.)

I think the rebels captured Daphne... The mystery girl that stole prince maxon's heart first.
