Discuss the prince and his pursuits here!

message 2: by Lucy Qhuay (new)

Lucy Qhuay I loooove Dorian! I am totally Team Dorian! =D
I love that he was such a player but that he changed for Celaena. We can really see that he loves her!
She broke his heart (and mine) when she left him in the end. :(
I love Dorian's sense of humor and how he wants to be there for Celaena. I love his passion for reading.
I love the fact that what he fears the most is to become a person like his father.
I loooooove him! xD

I have a feeling that he won't give up on her so easily...and I look forward to plenty of Dorian/Celaena banter in the next book!

Melissa Yeah that was so sad when she gave him the whole "we can't be more than friends because of who we are" spiel

His reaction was pretty subdued, though. I felt so bad for him, because he's such a nice guy. I hope Chaol's growing relationship/friendship doesn't ruin Dorian's friendship with Chaol. They're such cute friends and are so funny together!!

message 6: by Melissa (last edited Jan 19, 2013 05:49PM) (new)

Melissa I think his reaction was so subdued because he was already scared of rejection so when it came he wasn't so shocked and he realized that in some ways even if they had a relationship things wouldn't be so good for her.

Don't get mad at me but I think Dorian will end up Nehemia or someone else, and Chaol will end up with Celaena.

Trust me - the second book will answer alot of your pairing, or otherwise, questions. Sarah J Maas is a literary goddess and has tied together a water-tight plot with so many twists and turns. You guys are going to love it!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I was actually really happy when she ended it with Dorian, I hope it doesn't ruin Chaol and Dorian's relationship as friends, but I hope that Dorian will back off of Celaena so she can build a romantic relationship with Chaol. But I bet he won't give up easily *sighs in annoyance* but I'll have to read the 3rd book and see what happens.

Diana wrote: "Don't get mad at me but I think Dorian will end up Nehemia or someone else, and Chaol will end up with Celaena."

That's a really good guess, you know it might just happen. I hope he does so Celaena can be with Chaol. But I'll have to wait and see in the 3rd book. Nice guess.

Melissa Is it weird to anyone else that the Dorian thread is full of comments shipping Chaol and Celaena?

Yeah and some of us (like me) want Dorian all to ourselves

message 21: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sinmotion) | 234 comments Yes, Melissa, It's extremely weird, and honestly, annoying that Dorian's thread is filled with C/C shippers. It's like, I came here to find people who had a common ship and am only seeing a relationship that already has its own thread being discussed here. For the people who aren't on the Celaena/Chaol bandwagon it is rather frustrating. What's the point of Dorian even having a thread if it's so filled with non-supporters? Worse yet, it's not even like he's villain, but he's getting a lot of unfavorable attention from commenters here. Most of the comments here are mostly covering another character where I just feel those comments would be better suited to be left on Chaol's own thread. It's not even a discussion happening here, really, about why Dorian is the lesser of both he and Chaol. It's just primarily all to the effect of: "ugh, Dorian! Celaena needs to be with Chaol. End of story. Dorian GTFO..."

Any Dorian supporters/shippers around, it would be nice to converse with you. After finishing CoM, He's by far my favorite character.

*unpopular and sour opinion, but there it is.

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa ...... Well anyway I wonder what would happen if Dorian actually stood up to his father. I've only read Throne of Glass and I know he wants to but he hasn't as of yet as far as I know/remember. I know he can't really stand up to him directly without the threat of being disowned and he did kind of assert himself when he got Celaena into the competition but still it would be nice if someone would tell off the creepy king to his face.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sinmotion) | 234 comments True. A lot of things come to light in CoM, but unfortunately, not enough to set Dorian in motion against his father. Not in a way to directly confront or rise up against him anyway. A lot of that not taking place has to do with Celaena. To me, she's got a lot of information she's chosen not to share w/Dorian and I found it selfish and kind of messed up, especially since she's becomes privy to some very valuable information as it relates to Dorian. A lot of Celaena's reluctance to share what she knows about King with D has to do with looking out for herself first. Which, I get that, it's a totally human thing to do, but it's still kind of shitty (to me) in this case, and not ok when she's made Dorian confide a bunch of life altering stuff about himself to her. She did mention in one part of the book that she was trying to spare him the pain of knowing the truth about his father. But the thing is Dorian sort of realizes that his father has been horrendous. He knows his father is so far gone that he'd kill Dorian himself if he know the truth about his son. A person who knows that about their parent, would be just find learning about how their dad became evil and stays that way still.

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Maybe. I can see where she's coming from though. I don't think badly of her for not sharing with Dorian even if I wish she would. She's looking out for herself like she's had to do for most of her life. A few months (or however long it has been) isn't going to change that. Especially since she spent so long in Endovier. She didn't survive by sharing every little detail with everyone, she survived by doing what it took to stay alive and keeping certain things to herself.

message 25: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sinmotion) | 234 comments I agree. It just doesn't make it any more easy to accept when you know that she's, to an extent, emotionally manipulated someone in the process. The thing is, she didn't keep the information strictly to herself. She shares it with others. Just not him. Which, as I said before, I totally get. I just wished in the process that she wouldn't have demand full disclosure from Dorian in finding out some things about him as she proceeded to give him nothing in return. I don't know, it's the equal partnership dynamic in me.

I'll also say that it was even harder for me to ungrudgingly accept her behavior bc she was rather awful to Dorian for a while. She wasn't the only one. And since he's my favorite, it makes perfect sense why I was all annoyed and distressed.

message 26: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Yeah, I get that. In other books when the main girl is bitchy to the guy I'm rooting for I get a little pissy myself.

message 27: by Allie (last edited Aug 11, 2013 06:02PM) (new)

Allie | 31 comments I love Dorian! He is, by far, my favorite character. In the first book, I found myself flipping through the pages to find his name, so I would know how much further I had to read before he came back in. I can't get enough of him! The thought of Celeana being unkind to him...ugh it's going to pull at my heart strings. My poor boy!

message 29: by Sarvy (new)

Sarvy | 14 comments Thank you Stephanie for pointing out the unnecessary 'anti-Dorian/Celaena' campaign going on here!

In regards to Dorian, I definitely feel like he grew significantly in CoM. I cannot wait to see what is in store for him in the next book. Remember what the king said to himself in ToG? He knew that Dorian could be a great man if only he could toughen up(well, that's more of the gist...)

Also, it wasn't very nice for Celaena to treat Dorian the way she did for the majority of the book! Sure, call me biased but even if the situation was reversed and she was being mean to Chaol, I'd still say her attitude was uncalled for!

message 30: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (misah) | 14 comments I think Dorian grew significantly, too. I'm sure in the next book, we'll see a lot about how he finds himself, get's stronger and stands up to his father.
So maybe he will not have time for love, but nevertheless:
Let's find an appropriate Lady for Dorian!
Sarah postet this picture of Eilid Lochan. Maybe she'll become a love interest for him? Has anyone of you heard something about her, yet?

Katherine (katebelikov) | 30 comments I understand that in Celaenas era there may not be a strong barrier against incest and staying true to such era is an effective thing for authors to do buuuuuut I sincerely hope there is no reason for the shipping of Aedion and Celaena other than overactive imaginations. It's just not my favourite thing to read about... I say this from experience *winces*Flowers in the Attic*winces*

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

From what I remember,Aedion is like the male version of Celaena. I think. Or maybe it was some other character..I dunno. But he is very sexy..

message 36: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (warpedline) | 6 comments I'm mixed feelings about Dorian. He is sweet, and determined, but... I think I find him a little too pushy. I'm not really a fan of pushy, pine-y, needy people. Not that Dorian is, it's just at points he gave off that impression. Plus, I don't like the way how originally he only chased after Celaena because he thought she was beautiful and it was a good way to defy his father. I found that a little shallow. But I was happy when Celaena and his relationship grew to a more personal level than appearances.

Honestly, I think I prefer Chaol though.

*flinches away from Dorian supporters*

Lady Poppy | 19 comments Honestly, I thought Dorian was a creep. His sense of humor was really weird at some points, and I didn't like the way he winked and flirted with other girls while "being with" Celaena. I was kind of glad when she dumped him.

I do love him as a character, I really do! I just don't like him and Caena together, that's all.

Caru I love him!!<3

message 50: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sinmotion) | 234 comments And here I am trying to figure out when him and Celaena were actually "together". Seems like they just had a very very fleeting fling of inconsequential proportions. At least according to how Celeana tells it.
