Group Read Challenge 2013

Lovely to see people have alrady signed up for the Group Read challenge! If you still want to sign up the challenge may be found here.

I'll try and remember to list the books we are reading in this first post in this thread as we read them - if I forget, please give me a nudge! Also please feel free to discuss your progress with the challenge in this thread.

2013 Group Reads
There will be at least two books per month. The first is a randomly chosen book written by one of our NZ author members. There will be one group member book per month. The second will be the monthly category book. A NZ-related category or theme will be chosen from a list of suggestions from members - you can suggest a category here. members then nominate books to fit the category, and we vote. It is possible in the case of a tie in the voting there may be more than one category book in a given month.

January
Group member book: Trouble In Mind: Stories From A Neuropsychologist's Casebook by Jenni Ogden
Category - a book of NZ poetry: Essential New Zealand Poems



February
Group member book: Super Duty by Daniel K. Munroe (currently available on Kindle)
Category - a NZ picture book. In the end it was decided include the top four books from our poll. They are:
Kiwi: the real story
The Moon and Farmer McPhee
Were-nana: Not a Bedtime Story.
The Whale Rider (the picture-book edition illustrated by Bruce Potter)



March
Group member book: The Not So Perfect Life of Mo Lawrence by Catherine Robertson (Lucky Catherine: this is the second of her books to come out of the draw!)
Category - a book by a NZ student author: Any book from the Re-Draft collection, for example The Temptation Of Sunlight.



April
Group member book: Cousin Felicity and the Eels of Misty Point byKaal Kaczmarek
Category - A book set in the North Island: Isle of Tears by Deborah Challinor



May
Group member book: The Unseen Country
by Phillip W. Simpson
Category - New Zealand in World War 1. Lives We Leave Behind by Maxine Alterio

Category - Read the biography or autobiography of a New Zealander: The Lighthouse Keeper's Wife: An Autobiography by Jeanette Aplin

Group member book: Where the Rainbow Fell Down by Lynette Robinson
Category - Read a travel book about New Zealand: A Land of Two Halves by Joe Bennett

Group member book: Death on a Long Winter's Night by Lisa Williams
Category - Read a New Zealand 'Chick-Lit' book: The Misplaced Affections of Charlotte Fforbes by Catherine Robertson
