Oh my gosh I HATED Murphy when I started reading the books. I was so infuriated with her inability to trust someone she considered a friend. Stick it out, Anna! She comes around and the books just get better.

The colours? The red black and white? I'm guessing they are vamps. I've just seen them as 'vamps' so far. I've not noticed a Thomas so I din't think so.

(Just the barman, the skull, the journalist, Murphy, Bianca and a whole lot of people who get killed! Someone introduced Bianca, but my memory of them is hazy. The was a girl who Bianca 'eats' when she gets cross in her meeting with Dresden.)

It will get clearer when you get to like book 3 or 4 I think ... it's been a while.

Enjoy the anticipation! Sometimes I wish I could erase a good series in my head so I could read it again and be totally surprised.

Hmmm sometimes that sounds nice, and other times I love re-reading a book. Knowing what's going to happen next lets me focus on the details.

That's true Claire. And I always find out something I missed, even in series I reread more than 5 times (Harry Potter, Hollows)

Liking #3 at the moment - Grave Peril, more action so far and a few new characters...Michael (or at least I can't remember him from earlier books), new cops and the Vampire siblings. Trying not to get attached to the cops as they all seem to die at the end of the books. I'm reminded of Terry Pratchet and 'Guards, Guards!'

Michael is new. He kind of comes out of nowhere but as Harry's old friend.

My question for you guys is: (spoiler for Cold Days) (view spoiler)[ Why do you think Molly insisted on sleeping on the streets? I thought that was stupid. I get that she was sort of out of her mind with grief but...I just don't see why that meant she needed to be homeless, given that she had a family home protected by freakin' guardian angels. She would have been safe there (and her family would have been safe with her there) to rest up and do her job effectively. I don't know, that one detail really bugged me. (hide spoiler)]

Just read Dead Beat. I didn't find it as strong as Blood Rites- I felt there were too many episodes, just to ensure he had covered all bases. It is a bit formulaic -I didn't have the stay up all night to finish compulsion. However reading 2-3 chapters a night was incredibly relaxing!
Not much Thomas though, I kind of hope he has a good feed and bounces back to his normal self, *sigh*. He's being a bit depressive in this one!

1) He said Skin Game is 15 out of 23 books, looks like he's still aiming for 20 + epic trilogy. He also confirmed the last three books will be called: Stars and Stones, Hell's Bells, Empty Night

2) He mentioned there are more than the 3 main vampire courts, and the jade court, which was mentioned before. But the way he talked about it made it seem like the jade court is coming up again.

3) He hinted at the fact that there may be a spin off to DF, with Maggie as the lead? ;)

I'm excited for Skin Game because from the snippets I've read, I like this plotline a lot. I won't say anything else about it though, to avoid spoiling you guys :p

I honestly didn't like books 13 & 14 that much. So I'm hoping that the rest of Skin Game keeps on being awesome.

I really never felt Molly had "strength of character" like her parents or harry and murphy... she was always weak, emotionally. I felt like the book was a wrap up from all the "damages" from Changes. Like Harry coming to terms with being the winter knight and his relationship with his friends/family.

My take on it all is this:

Harry's love life (view spoiler)[ something will come between them (Harry and Murphy) just like always - I think they would be good together but they are just too different for it to come to pass. Plus the "He's gonna live a long time and she's not" syndrome will alway be a wedge between them. And now that Molly is of age and basically Harrys boss, I'm kinda rooting for those two to get together. (hide spoiler)]

Molly (view spoiler)[ Molly has a long way to go to master her change, but Auntie Lea was making sure she was headed in the right direction long before Molly because she Winter Lady (and is probably still working on her behind the scenes) - I wonder what she knew when Molly was running around as the Ragged Lady. Also, I think Molly will become a stronger character now that she has bigger boots to fill. (hide spoiler)]

The Heist (view spoiler)[ I felt that Mabs would never send Harry into a mess that would get him whacked - she spent far too much time recruiting him. So, she must have known that Harry had some means of protecting himself in the end. One thing I was unclear of in the end was whether or not the shapeshifter was another brother of Harry's - he did allude to Margaret LaFey when he demanded his fee of $1.-00 from Harry for services rendered. Butters (view spoiler)[ I'm not sure what I think of Butter being a Knight of the Cross. And I don't think I like Bob in his care, either. Of course, Harry now has his new entity living in the quarters he had made for Bob, but... Of course, since she is part of a Fallen Angel's psyche, she might turn out to be more powerful and all knowing than Bob. (hide spoiler)]

Maggie (view spoiler)[ I don't think Maggie knows Harry is her father yet, but I believe that knowledge is coming. I also think that for the time being she will stay at the Carpenter's as it seems to be a great place for her to be, what with all the other kid's there to interact with. My big thought for Maggie is that she WILL come into powers, and Harry will mentor her. (hide spoiler)]

So that's my take on where the Dresden Files stands right now. I wish I had known you (Zeenat) were doing a reread prior to the book coming out; work is killing me and it seems I have no time for anything - I haven't been on this site in ages. I did reread the series prior to the book coming out, but it's alway better to be part of something than on your own.

I'm going to reread this book as soon as I finish the new Waker Paper's novel that came out Tuesday. It's the big finale to the Walker Papers, and I waited a long time for it to come out.

I can't wait for that book to finally come out, it kept getting pushed and pushed back. The few things I let myself read said that there are gonna be some not so happy stuff happening and someone dying. I am doubly avoiding spoilers--won't ruin a series for me like when I accidentally read a spoiler for A Shiver of Light and just refuse to read it for now. Since she killed off one of my favorite characters....

Duane, I planned on doing a big reread, but I got busy and never got a chance to do it with the group, kinda breezed through my own reread.

Although I am one of those who is not sure Harry will live at the end of the series... I can't get on the molly and harry bandwagon. I never really liked her as a character though.
