In it, we find out that Mab has various debts which she has incurred over the years and Mab is very keen on getting her debts paid, and when one of the people she owes shows up and asks for a favour, she loans him Harry Dresden in order to help him. So Harry is going to find himself, by command of Queen Mab, assisting Nicodemus Archleon in a heist. They’re going on a bank job, and they’re going to knock over the vault of Hades — the Lord of the Underworld.

Harry is going to be very far out of his element because he’s going to be working with this crew of nasties that Nicodemus has recruited and having to survive that situation, and it’s going to make him look so good to the White Council and everyone else that he’s running around with this crew. I agree with zeenat about changes, cold days ... well I can't wait to see how harry gets through it all. The dresden files is one of the few book series where I don't feel so bad when something apocalyptic happens, because he always makes it sound good. If I made any sense with that....

It's true, JB does have a way of making even the worst things not seem so depressing. I value that in his writing. Hopefully, that feeling continues. I really didn't like the feel of book 13. The mood in book 14 improved somewhat...but not enough for my liking.

Before screenreader changes when there was something like _____ I had to hear underline underline underline underline underline for however many of that there were. Now it just goes 5underline.



13 was different, but I think it showed harry that he is not uber powerful and to rely on other people ... and see help in other places.
Or like not everything is peachy keen and that crap can fall apart if he is not around.

Of course I could be full of crap and imagining it all....

I get what you mean about Harry needing a wake up call. At the same time, given how badly things fell apart without him....well that can't possibly have been good for Harry's hero complex

Anyway I want Dresden to understand how much people appreciate him. Harry needs to know that the good things he does aren't in vain so he doesn't get burned out. Also so that he has something to fight for.

I don't think Harry has ever had an ego. if anything, he is very self deprecating. I think Claire is right, if he learns how important he is... maybe he'll get even better.

I think having to had to re-think what he could and could not do and find alternate ways to do something just made him think out of the box in regards to what he is able to do. So made him stronger, I am not sure where the ego comment came from since he really doesn't suffer that. Maybe relying on his powers in a set way was what I was trying to mean.

I haven't messed with finding the settings for videos and such ... so I gave a little prayer that I wouldn't get interrupted and could listen to the whole thing without having to pause it. (closing the window....) I got to where she mentioned maggie then it stopped on me. Was that the end of the reading? If so I won't feel so bad for not wanting to try and figure it out. lol It is hard to listen to something on your computer when you are using a screenreader ... hence why I hit ctrl f4 when I start to hear crap on a site. pffft

Just finished #2. Not a fan girl yet but they are fun and have ordered #3 from the library. Trying to avoid the spoilers on this thread. I didn't much like Bianca. Vampires are nasty in this series! Murphy need a slap - does she never talk to anyone?
