message 1910: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (lbrown81) | 10 comments I just started The Search Angel by Tish Cohen as an actual paperback I can pick up. I don't often read an actual book anymore - it's a simple pleasure to hold it in my hands. Only a couple chapters in with this one, but so far, so good.

Robin (robin-alisha) | 32 comments I'm reading about four or five things at the moment. I'm kind of skipping around. Haha.

Jess the Shelf-Declared Bibliophile (jessicalewis) Question for anyone who has read them..I bought a couple of Lemony Snicket books at a yard sale, I think they're 3 or 4 and 7? Do these books need to be read in order or are they pretty independent? And are they even worth reading?

message 1916: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) I just started Savage Continent by Keith Lowe. Very good so far.

message 1917: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) I am still reading A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin . I am really starting to get into it now. I found the start of the book a lot slower than GoT. I am really enjoying it now.

Reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier for two challenges. It is also a slow read but I like it. Kind of depressing though.

I just started You Against Me by Jenny Downham . It is too early for an opinion.

I understand what you mean! It took quite awhile for the story to develop for me in the ASOIF series too. I'm thinking because there are so many characters, lineages and alliances that you need to familiarize yourself with first. Once you get going though I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to the Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Although I probably will be married with kids by then.

oh and i'm currently reading Cassandra Clare's "City of Fallen Angels"

I really liked Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments Series. I didn't like so much the Clockwork Series so much but I still have Clockwork Princess to read.

message 1920: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) I'm reading Water for Elephants, and so far it's an interesting story. The circus has always fascinated me, both in a good and a bad way, so I enjoy reading about it.

message 1921: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (kristelrose) | 3 comments I am currently reading The Awakening and The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries, #1-2) by L.J. Smith
It's way worse than the tv series. I don't think that I would finish it if I haven't seen the tv show, I'm only finishing it since I want to compare it with the show.

message 1922: by Simone (new)

Simone Francois (simonefrncs) | 9 comments I am reading Divergent right now but I also recommend Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz. It is not one of YA novels but it is addictive.

Maeve Binchy books are usually romance books. They are not erotica and they are not kids. I haven't read any of her books in ages. They take place in Ireland if I remember correctly.

message 1926: by Maggie (new)

Maggie @ Katie G, have you read Sarah Addison Allen. She has 4 books that I really love.
Garden Spells- my favorite
The Sugar Queen
Girl who Chased the Moon- this one has 2 teenagers in it, but the story is not only about them.
The Peach Keeper

Thank you. I haven't read anything by Sarah Addison Allen but I will definitely try Garden Spells and may read some more of her works if I like it.

message 1928: by Sher (last edited Aug 04, 2013 04:45PM) (new)

Sher (sherbowie) | 3 comments I'm always reading several books at once. I just finished Sati-Christopher Pike and Between Heart and a Rock Place-Pat Benatar. I'm currently reading The Scarlet Letter-Nathaniel Hawthorne and Why I Hate Canadians-Will Ferguson. Next up on my pile is Slash-Slash and Dandy in the Underworld-Sebastian Horsley, but I'm thinking maybe to put this groups' recommended reads first. Is that how it works?

message 1929: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) I finished Rebecca a few days ago and really liked it. It felt slow in places but I think that was just the main character's mind set. I wasn't able to predict what happened. It was a good mystery.

Right now I am reading A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin . This one will take me a while but it has a good start. I am buddy reading The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss and I am finally getting around to The Seeds of a Daisy by Alison Caiola . I have been meaning to read this since the beginning of summer. I am half way through now.

message 1931: by Naynay (new)

Naynay | 5 comments Currently read First Night of Summer by Landon Parham I highly recommend if you are looking for something different in thriller/suspense.
In a world where every second person is a self-proclaimed writer, myself included, it's easy to forget what makes a debut author stand out among all the other newly published books. It is because they have distinct talent and are good. Let me rephrase that, they are damn good and it sets them apart from the rest of the newbies. Landon Parham is a case at point. While this book may appear to be your run-of-the-mill thriller at first glance, it thoroughly disabuses you of that notion within just a few chapters. He moves the plot forward through a mixture of point-of-views, leaving you hanging on every last sentence waiting to see what will happen next. First Night of Summer is a sad, haunting tale about an ex military man, Isaac Snow and how he must find a way to protect what is left of his family before he loses everything to a dark and demented evil. Some violent parts can be difficult to read, but you will not be able to put it down. It is a fast-paced read with a strong plot driven story.
Check out the official book trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_FI2E...
Kindle, Nook, and ibook on sale for only 99 cents for a limited time.. I "liked" his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Landon..., and he is one of my new favorites. I can't wait to read his next! #1 NYT bestseller, Sandra Brown picked his debut book, First Night of Summer as her recommended read this year!

message 1932: by YA Book Bum (new)

YA Book Bum (crackling-bones) | 11 comments I am currently reading Of Triton (Of Poseidon, #2) by Anna Banks by Anna Banks. It's the next book to Of Poseidon. Can say that I love it and I recommend readers' who likes to read about mermaids, I dunno. But in my opinion, it's a preety top book--funny and entertaining to read. The girl named Emma (ho is the main character in the book) reminds me of myself sometimes. I know it sounds conceited but you gotta bond with your book, okay!

message 1933: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (originally_elle) | 250 comments Just picked up Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout & The Faerie Path (Faerie Path, #1) by Allan Frewin Jones

Has anyone read either of them?

message 1934: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) I read Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout last month. I thought it was okay. Good but not great. If I remember right, the main female character really irritated me.

message 1935: by Denny's Eggs (new)

Denny's Eggs The Power Of One by Bryce Courtenay is an amazing book! I have to read it for school and I am really glad that this is the book I'm suppose to read! I can't put it down.

I read that this summer and thought it was amazing. I will for sure continue with this series. Where are you at in the story?

message 1939: by M.L. (new)

M.L. Space (MLSpace) | 10 comments I just finished "Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets". It was different and funny. A good YA novel.

message 1940: by Karen (new)

Karen (sleepysocks) | 8 comments I just finished The Light Between Oceans and enjoyed it very much. I'm giving up on Blood Orchids. I'm more than 60% through it and it just bores me. I'm going in a different direction and plan to start Driving Mr. Yogi: Yogi Berra, Ron Guidry, and Baseball's Greatest Gift

message 1941: by Margaret (new)

Margaret I just finished Sea of Poppies. It took me some time to get into the story, but I did really enjoy the novel :3 I'm currently reading If this is a man/the truce, by Primo Levi. Even though the fact that this is a true story makes it quite difficult to read at times (at least, for me), I do think this is one of the books you really have to read at some point.

I read The Book Theif and completely loved it! I think Zusak did a amazing job of telling the story in different but special way. I am planning on reading it again here before the new movie comes out. Can't wait to see.

message 1944: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 2 comments Currently reading My Name is Memory, 50% finished.
It's quite good actually although at first it seemed boring and draggy. On the latter part of what I've read it started getting interesting and the story managed to hook me up and kept me flipping one page to the next.
Next Book: If I Stay

message 1947: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I've finished Release Me - J. Kenner. Is kinda like Fifty Shades and Bare To You style book, so intense are the characters that I throughly enjoyed it. Now I can't decide whether to read next installment or carry on reading something I started lol.
