Sophia (sophianise) | 8 comments I would love if someone could recommend me books... :)

I just finished the Great Gatsby but now I kinda want to switch gears and read something like the Gallagher Girls series... I want a book that has amazing characters that I can adore and love and that I wish were in my world! For example, some of my favorite characters include:
Peeta from The Hunger Games
ZACH from Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy
Tally from Uglies

Robin (robinpickell) | 421 comments I just finished reading Red Phoenix (Dark Heavens, #2) by Kylie Chan , and am continuing on with Blue Dragon (Dark Heavens, #3) by Kylie Chan to finish the trilogy, but not the series.
If anyone reads my posts, I broke down and ordered Dark Serpent (Celestial Battle , #1) by Kylie Chan from Australia/NZ. I rationalized it by saying I deserved to give myself a birthday present. *sigh*

I am also in the middle of reading Jekyll (Hyde #2) by Lauren Stewart & highly enjoying it. I really want to finish it, but I know if I do I will have to wait a while for the next in the series. So troubling when you read series, right?

message 1714: by Jodi (new)

message 1717: by Gen (new)

Gen | 3 comments Hi Everyone-- I am new to the group. Thanks for all the great recommendations.
I recommend the Georgetown Academy series. But I must warn you...this series is very addicting! At first glance you might think it will be too juvenile but the fact that it takes place in a DC prep school is really cool-- all the normal coming of age problems are magnified because their parents are all political people who are constantly under a microscope. The books deal with a lot of really relevant teen problems ie date rape, drug addiction, sexuality, but it is written so well that the authors have you laughing and rooting for your favorite characters throughout the books. The dialog is amazing. Another cool thing about this series is that there are 4 main characters and at a certain point in each book you can choose to "follow" one of the characters to see the situation from their point of view. you can also go back and choose each character and see the same situation from each of their points of view-- that is my favorite part-- so cool to see how people view the same situation.
I have recommended this series a lot (to both girls and guys) and everyone who has read it have loved it. You can download it to your ereader so you can start reading it right away which is also a big plus for me.
Please let me know if you do read it and if you liked it.
P.S. I am currently waiting with eager anticipation for Book 4-coming June 11- can't wait!!

message 1726: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) I finished Delirium. I didn't like this book immediately. Not at all. I liked the world that was being described into detail, but I was able to predict almost everything that happened in the first half or the book. The second half of the book got much better. There were some major plot twists that I didn't see coming and I 'liked' the ending.

message 1727: by Trinity (new)

Robin (robinpickell) | 421 comments Well, way back on message 1817, I said I was only going to read the "Dark Heavens" trilogy by Kylie Chan, but I lied. I continued on into the "Journey to Wudang" trilogy. *sigh* I am a weak weak person. But I vow I will seriously try to get through all the books I set out to read this month.

BTW @ Jacky - I really loved Ready Player One by Ernest Cline . I just loved all the references in it.

Also, have you read The Rook (The Checquy Files, #1) by Daniel O'Malley yet? I am hoping he comes out with another one soon. (I read them around the same time, so I link them together in my mind.)

what kind of books are you into?

message 1743: by Yesenia (new)

Have you read The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin?

message 1745: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) I finished Along Came a Spider this afternoon. The fact that part of the story is told from the perspective of a kidnapper is very interesting. The psychological aspect of the story was very interesting. I didn't really like some parts of the story as it further developed though, which made me rate it only three stars.

I'm going to start reading The Time Traveler's Wife tonight. Looking forward to that one!

The first book of the series is A Game of Thrones, maybe that rings a bell? HBO is currently broadcasting the third season of the television series based on the books. It's an epic fantasy story and I loved the three books I read so far.
