Liana Goode (liana_goode) | 21 comments Just finished reading The Soho Anarchist, by Tony Evans. Which is a Victorian crime series. At the moment it is free on Amazon: http://amzn.to/WFKFkq
I really enjoyed it and recommend it for download.
Here is the blurb:
The Victorian detective Hester Lynton and her sharp-minded assistant Ivy Jessop are back for another series of dazzling adventures.

In London a mysterious package with a deadly secret has landed on Hester's desk.

In the suburbs, a woman is plagued by a series of pranks which hint at the supernatural.

And in Islington, a medium claims to have the power to access the thoughts of her client's dead relatives, as well as the money in their pockets.

Can Hester find the elusive Soho Anarchist before another bomb is blown? Will she unearth the secret of Greystones Villa and identify its tormentor? And will she unveil the true identity of Madame Valland and the secrets of her supernatural powers?

Join Hester and Ivy as they travel throughout the country chasing adventure and solving mysteries.

This casebook promises twists and turns with a pair of lady sleuths with sharp wits and Holmesian intelligence.

'The Soho Anarchist' is the second in a dazzling new series of Victorian mystery stories that is perfect for fans of the Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and the Raffles series.

“A slick and sassy detective series. The female Holmes and Watson take on the criminal underworld of London.” - Richard Foreman, best-selling author of of the Raffles series.

Tony Evans is a full-time writer. His other publications include adaptations of classic novels [for the “Real Reads” series] and co-authorship of a book on steam locomotives. He lives with his wife in the Yorkshire Dales.

Now, I am continuing my "spring cleaning" and have moved on to Bleach, Volume 1 Strawberry and the Soul Reapers by Tite Kubo - up to Ch. 517 from Japan. If I finish that & the most recent chapters of Skip Beat!, Vol. 1 by Yoshiki Nakamura , I am going to try and finish off Kay Hooper's Shadow series with Out of the Shadows (Bishop/Special Crimes Unit, #3) by Kay Hooper .

Mitsy (mitsyc) | 41 comments Hey I've read two series that are different and not well known, yet.

The first, Capital Girls, is a YA/NA series about four teens living in D.C. and how they balance being teenagers with politics. These books are excellent for teens and adults. This series is old school YA/NA. There are no vampires, werewolves, stalkers, abuse, or whatever else is in the current YA books. This series is about grades, peer pressure, gossip, boyfriend/girlfriend issues, working parents, college choices, and all the stuff teens endure on a regular basis - except this is under the harsh spotlight of politics. That adds a delicious twist. :)

The second series starts with Marked for Vengeance and fits in most every genre: mystery, suspense, paranormal, YA, NA, dystopia, romance, and thriller to name a few. This series is about Protectors who come to Earth to guard their humans. The Protectors are also humans. I seriously love this series! :) Book 3, the final book, comes out around August and I can't wait! :) If anyone has read anything like this, please let me know because this is soooo different, to me. I'd love to read more books like this. :)

How do they books compare with the films? (If you've seen them).

At the moment I'm working my way through The Complete Sherlock Holmes, and I've almost reached the end of The Return of Sherlock Holmes. I also just started The People of the Abyss by Jack London.

Have you read 50 Shades of Grey yet?? I haven't but I have been debating it, I normally don't go for the whole popular book bit, but it seems intriguing in some odd way.

message 1371: by Stacy (new)

Stacy okun (stacyo40) | 111 comments Well, i did read them all. ALOT of sex, but the writing is not the greatest. I have to say that my husband wanted to read them to see what all the fuss was about, and he liked them too. He did make fun of some of the scenes and quoted the worst lines LOL. But they are addicting.

Stacy okun (stacyo40) | 111 comments I also read all of the gillian flynn books lately too since i read "gone Girl" They are dark, so i had to switch to something lighter for a bit

message 1373: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I'm reading Crescendo (hush hush #2) and so far it's really good. I think the group should read the hush hush series, the mortal instruments series, divergent series, or the perks of being a wallflower because all these series and books were really good in my opinion.

Bb2nz1 | 10 comments Currently reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I like it even though it took me about 40 pages to get into it as some of the characters, dialogue, and descriptions grated against my nerves. But I'm glad I didn't put it down after the first chapter as I've forever been meaning to read it (as it is a classic) and putting it off for brand-new books in the YA genre. Now I'm almost finished but just waiting to see how the story plays out.

message 1376: by Amy (new)

Amy | 3 comments I am currently reading Chosen by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. It is the third book to the House of Night series. They are really good so far.
