Jon (jonmoss) I will be taking a break next week from Crossroads of Twilight to read A Memory of Light. I foresee the inevitability of a discussion here, even though we are not scheduled to read the last book in the Wheel of Time series until May. Reading one book a month and starting last April, I foresaw the writing on the wall.

Please, no spoilers in this thread.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Lindsey | 61 comments Yay! Glad we'll have a chance to discuss this so quickly. My copy's on pre-order and should be here shortly after the release date. I intend to dive in right away.

Evilynn | 68 comments I'm also glad we can discuss this right away! I'll be getting my copy tomorrow morning before work, since the local indie SFF book shop is opening up early to fulfill our WOT needs. ;)

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments Yep, I'm reading this one. I got ahead in the reread and finished up Towers of Midnight on Saturday, so I'm all ready for this book!

Jim | 7 comments My Sanderson-autographed copy arrived in the mail today! I'm a happy, happy boy... probably won't be able to read much until this weekend tho.

Evilynn | 68 comments ...and I have my copy on my desk and how am I supposed to get any work done today, I ask??

Josh (vadalor) | 1 comments Just downloaded "A Memory of Light", now onward to the Last Battle!

Mine did too! I squealed, for real. My husband rolled his eyes. I stayed up two hours past my normal bedtime reading it.

Jim Proctor (cazalinghau) Amazon only shipped my copy today, so won't be getting it until tomorrow (sniff). I've already read the Prologue and Chapter 1, listened to Chapter 2, as these were released on the web some time ago - but I've probably forgotten a lot of it, so I'll try to remind myself with the Wheel of Time Encyclopaedia (a great resource, despite having a "Web circa 1997" feel to it). Initial reviews on wertzone and nethspace are very positive - along the lines of "terrific, but not flawless". That sounds appropriate to me, as it kind of sums up the whole series. It's a series I've enjoyed greatly, but one where it is much easier to point out what the series does wrong than its virtues. WOT's virtues are definitely present, but are more elusive, I think, than, say, Game of Thrones, where you can point to its complex characters and moral shades of grey and other element not typical of the genre. How do you pitch Wheel of Time? On the face of it, it does nothing to extend or subvert the genre, other than be of much larger scope to most other fantasy series? I think what I really like about it is that it's Dune in Middle Earth! - combining two of my favourite books from my teens.

That depends on how it ends. If it's simply beating the bad guy until he rises again some time in the distant future, I'll be a bit disappointed after (what seemed to me) all the build up about breaking the wheel of time.

I knew there should have been a reason to order a signed one. I could have been reading it already. Mine is waiting for me when I get home from work. I'll have to get my copy signed when I go to another signing. I live in Utah, so Brandon Sanderson does signings rather frequently. It would have been fun to go to the midnight release party in Provo, but that's about an hour and a half drive and I had to go to work today. Should have taken the day off I guess.

Mridupawan Podder (itsfreelancer) | 5 comments blame it on the weather :D

Evilynn | 68 comments I only got through about 140 pages yesterday (damned real life intruding on my reading time!), but so far I'm liking it a lot more than Towers of Midnight. :)

Jon (jonmoss) Waking up this thread since we 'jumped the gun' back in January. Many of us couldn't wait for the ebook release last month, nor for our regularly scheduled group read for this final book in the Wheel of Time series.

Please try to avoid spoilers. If you can't, at lease mark them as spoilers.

I'm a bit behind, still listening to the end of Towers of Midnight, but I should be joining the group read by the weekend.

John LeViness (jlawrence) | 7 comments Almost half way through now and loving and dreading the end of this series.

Shannon Just starting to read this after moving out of state & getting my new library card. I'm so excited to read it & also really sad that there won't be another one to follow this tome.

Jon (jonmoss) Welcome, Shannon. I'm not even half finished listening to Memory of Light. This time around, I'm savoring it, as I will probably not re-read this series again this decade (or next). I flashed through the hardcover back in January so fast I think I missed some key moments. This time, I'm paying attention and taking my time to get through it.

Travis | 11 comments Okay, I'm not sure where to post it because it's just a silly thought about the WoT.

Has anybody seen the still shot of the new Superman where he's running in the rain? He has no shirt and a beard. Did anyone else see that and immediately think, Hey, there's Perrin!

For some reason, he just seemed to have this look about him that made me think that would be the perfect image for Perrin if they ever made a movie.

If you haven't seen the shot, just Google "Man of Steel beard" and look at some of the pictures.

Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Helen | 1 comments Considerably later than everyone else but I'm starting tonight, quite excited. One of my most expensive ebooks. I expect it's a better quality than the ebook that will be released to coincide with the paperback!!!
