✨ Jordan ✨ | 16 comments I'm trying to find the name of a book I read as a child. It was a magical quest type of novel that started when something occurred in a magical kingdom (a spell or curse or something) that resulted in the entire population changing shape. From what I remember, the protagonist transformed into a griffin and went on a journey with his/her friend that was turned into a "strong man" and the kingdom's princess, who was the only person to remain unchanged. I think lots of people changed into animal (like cats and lions in particular), and one guy turned into a cabbage.
At the end of the novel the kingdom could choose whether to go back to normal or to stay in their transformed state.
If you can think of the book's title, please tell me! Thank you.

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments Sounds like something that might happen in Piers Anthony's Xanth series, but I don't remember this specific situation.

NOT the Dark Lord book. But possibly the follow up (which I haven't read) The Year of the Griffin.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 11 comments Talking to Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles, #4) by Patricia C. Wrede A character did change into a cabbage, but not everyone changed into animals and you didn't mention any dragons.

A few people were turned into other things or sizes, but not the whole country.

✨ Jordan ✨ | 16 comments Thanks guys, but none of those books are the one that I'm looking for.
Also I recently remembered two things about the book:
1: There was a character named Rosie/Rose/Rosemary
2. At some point in the story the main characters were captured in the webs of enormous spiders (similar to the spidrens from Tamora Pierce's novels.)

Jordana, are you still looking for this?

message 15: by ✨ Jordan ✨ (new)

✨ Jordan ✨ | 16 comments Yes I am, thank you.

Michele | 2488 comments What age would the book have been aimed at -- 8-10, 13-15, 18-20? Any recollection of the cover, or how long the book was? How old were the main characters, roughly?

message 17: by ✨ Jordan ✨ (new)

✨ Jordan ✨ | 16 comments I'd say it was aimed at 8-13 year olds and was 200-350 pages long? Can't really remember that well. Not too sure on the ages of the characters but I'd guess between 10-16.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments Hi Jordana, I'm not sure if you are still looking for this book, but it's one I know well. It's The Centre of Magic (Floramonde #4) by Pamela Freeman.

Sent Jordana a PM about SBC's suggestion. Here's hoping she responds soon, since I've been waiting for this one to get solved since I liked the way that Jordana described the book.

OMG THAT'S IT - I can't believe someone found it four years after I originally asked! Thank you SBC (and Ann for messaging me!)
