I read this book in high school and I am pretty sure it is actually a short story. I cannot remember the author either. I do remember that in the story there was a woman who lived alone and then she died and when they went in to get her body they also found the body of her dead lover who had died years ago. They also found a strand of her hair on his bed which implied that she had been sleeping in the bed with his dead corps. Any suggestions of what this might have been?

I remember reading this in an anthology of Southern Gothic fiction, but I don't remember exactly what story it was...My guess is either
"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner
or
"The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" by Katherine Anne Porter
but I don't remember which story is which right off the top of my head.
"A Rose For Emily"It's out of copyright so here's a link to the full story.

I know I've read this....it was in my High school English book Sophomore year. I think it was "A Rose for Emily" as well.
