Good times.
I've actually been poking around the ol' MySpace recently. Feels like a ghost town in there.

Sounds like a 21st century Twilight Zone episode: the last denizen of an online literary community poking around the intellectual ruins.

I've got to . . . I've got to . . . I've got to . . .
Muchas gracias to all for the welcome.
I know, I know . . . @ times I feel like a Mr. Beamus, (my favorite Twilight Zone episode).

Hurrah Evan! You should come to the Dork this year!

Hi Sherry! So glad you asked! Every year the Fiction Files takes this party OFF the internet. We rent a vacation home somewhere, then anyone who wants to come chips in on the cost and we meet up to eat, drink, laugh, talk, read, swim, hike, sleep, dance, etc. We call this gathering Dorkapalooza or Dorka or Dork for short. Dorkapalooza 2012 is our sixth Dork in a row. This year we are renting a huge lodge near Cle Elum, Washington.
Here's the invite in case you want to check it out!

Also, if you go to the "About Us" section you can click on the various Dorka or Dorkapalooza threads to read about planning stages, or thank yous, there might even be links to photos.
:)

I deleted the post from the bad form guy. It was someone hawking their book. We don't go in for that around here.

evan! you can get notifications to your email. check your settings on individual threads (look below this box we type in) and check your goodreads settings to make sure you haven't blocked them. i made a subfolder in my gmail for it so my inbox didn't get cluttered. :) that way, if somebody comments on a thread you've posted in, you'll know. i know that's not the same as before, but i think it just seemed like less work to check the group on myspace. good times, though. :)

That's a damn fine book. Changed my life. Stones are my friends. They follow my feet.

Whatever become of that uncertain staircase? I want to know more about that character! Is he or she working at overcoming his/her shyness enough to start working at Applebee as a hostess? So many questions about that character.

I joined GR this spring and have been shopping around for some good groups to join -- Fiction Files seemed friendly and intelligent, so here I am.
Welcome, Regan! Don't worry if it isn't too busy. Sometimes there is an unexpected flurry you wouldn't want to miss!

Name is Leslie. Since I last left you, I got married and had a kid. And got a dog.
Good to be back!

laima!!! welcome! :)
please have a look around, grab a seat and stay a while. there used to be more vocal canadians around here but i think i'm the only one now. but you can make two! :)
right now there's a bit more traffic because we're all planning (sic) the dorkapalooza, a gathering of booknerds. the first one was held at the home of our illustration founder, author jonathan evison in 2006? i think. the history is written somewhere on these boards. it's loads of fun. everybody drinks, relaxes, takes day trips, plays drunk bingo, eats big family meals, and of course we have a book exchange. :)
glad you're here!

Hi... I'm Brian. I'm a bookaholic but have been sober for too long. I've secretly hidden 3 books in my desk drawer at school and have a book near my bed. I can't kick the addiction. Sorry for denying what I am for so long and sorry for staying away from here. I'm now downing some Evison straight up and passing out with Dostoevsky. I'm not in the gutter yet but hope to be soon.
Brian, your words bring me joy. I hope your reading relapse is massive and consuming. Welcome back!

i missed you! i'm glad you've found your thirst for books again! and remembered to come telling us what you were reading. it is hard work having to find out about books all by myself! that's why i am glad the group moved to goodreads, for better or worse. if the OG members can't help, somebody else can pitch in. :)

I've been an avid reader all my life, but have never approached it in any kind of ordered way. I think I may have to change that. Hopefully Goodreads and the love of a good man can help.
See you all soon!

Hey welcome to the group, Katie! And I'm all in favor of chaos! Especially if chaos works well for you, an ordered approach might be totally overrated! See you in a few days!

a good man is hard to find -- or so flannery o'connor tells us. but i suspect a deadpan man is rarer still, and you've got that nicely covered. :)
nice to "meet" you before i get to meet you, katie. :)
