WELCOME TO THE FICTION FILES REDUX GROUP!!

Hello, FictionFiler friends,

I'm not sure whether anyone reads these posts anymore, but I'm feeling so very nostalgic for the old gang. I've been participating in a group here that I think you would love. It's called The Tournament of Books, and it's like a Sweet 16 for fiction. Many writers, avid readers, and those guys who host the podcast So Many Damn Books participate. Mostly they remind me of who we used to be, before we went dormant - brilliant, funny, wild, and most of all, kind. The long list of 76 books has just been released, and the 13 I've read so far are pretty terrific. There are all sorts of nerdy bits like Google spreadsheets to try and pick which 16 will make the short list, playoff brackets, and winner predictions. The tournament as a whole tries to recognize books that are not winning huge prizes, but have beautiful qualities nonetheless (there are some prizewinners, though, in the mix). They are even discussing some IRL wrap parties in NYC, Seattle, San Francisco, and other spots. I'm hoping to coax a few Southerners to come to Asheville near the end of March when the winner is announced. Join me over there if you are so inclined.
