Have you read The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1) by Jenny Han It's Not Summer Without You (Summer, #2) by Jenny Han We'll Always Have Summer (Summer, #3) by Jenny Han ? I really loved books 2 and 3 in that series.

Tati Gosh, I hate it when my mom keeps trying to pick up a fight...

I'm quite pleased that my mum mainly fights with my brother now, because I seriously hated it when she was getting shitty with me! It's like you're damned if you do and you're damned if yo don't.

Tati Exactly, Sarah. It only makes me more determined to move out by the end of the year.

Moving out definitely helps! Although then you get the guilt trips over how you don't call often enough, or visit often enough. ugh.

Tati Nah, she is not a clingy mom. When I was in England, we would go for weeks without calling.

We just have different opinions on how and what to do, as well as when it should be done, and that is hurting our relationship

My mum has definitely mellowed with age, but I still maintain that the scariest thing I have ever done in my life is tell my mum that i was pregnant. That alone is enough to put me off having more kids!

my mum is very much - it's her way, or the wrong way. it's frustrating.

Tati I dunno, I'm kinda finding the opposite with mine... She is a very DIY person, and she is finding she can't do that as much as she'd like to, and I absolutely hate that kind of stuff

my mum is still upset that all three of us kids eat with our forks in our right hand instead of our left. she won't let us set the table with the forks on the right because apparently that's just wrong.

Don't most people typically hold their fork in their right hand? I mean you use your dominant hand to do that right?

message 5965: by Tati (new)

Tati In terms of etiquette, the 'correct' thing would be to hold the fork with the left hand and the knife with the right hand. But what difference does it actually make? None, in my opinion

lol. I don't know how that came to be! You'd think with 90% of the world being right handed it would be the opposite. Well it's good for me then. My etiquette is always correct then. :P

message 5967: by Tati (new)

Tati Well, I'm left-handed, so that works for me too

Lefties! I'm a lefty too. ^-^ Did you know we show handeness as soon as in the womb? Oh and men are more likely to be left handed then women?

message 5969: by Tati (new)

Tati Really? I didn't know that!

I've already said that, when I have my own house, everything will be for left-handed people, like knives, scissors and the like

message 5970: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90918 comments Mod
Yes, etiquette wisse you're supposed to hold your fork in your left hand. I always argue that I don't want to bring something sharp towards my face with my non-dominant hand.

message 5971: by Tati (new)

Tati That's actually a very good point, Sarah

But do you know how to tell if you're left hemisphere or right hemisphere dominant?

If you are right handed, you tend to be left hemisphere dominant - the left side of your brain controls you body. If you are left handed, it's not always straight-forward. If you curve your hand above the words when you are writing though, mimicing how right-handed people write - like this

then you are left-hemisphere dominant, if you hold it like this instead, keeping your hand below the words -

then you are right-hemisphere dominant, which is a lot rarer ☺

Sorry, that's quite random ☺

I'm somewhat both. I wrote like the first one for some of grade school cause otherwise I got the smudge us lefties get when writing with pencil. But then I figured out how to write and not get smudged so I write like the second one now. But I also have NVLD which effects my writing as well. ^-^

Tati I always write like the second picture, which means I can't use those gel pens, as they smudge something awful

Me either although sometimes I can get around that if I really want/need to. It's also one of the reasons I either use pencils (they are easier to wash off then pen) or type.

heh, I'm right handed, and my left hand is pretty much useless! :p so If I have to hold my fork with my left hand, I'll spill every bite! :P

That was kinda one of the other facts that I found. It said that right handers had more trouble adjusting to being left handed if say they broke their arm/hand then lefties. Probably because we live in a right handed world so we have to adjust a lot. I find handshakes to be the most problematic strangely. lol. :P

message 5990: by Tati (new)

I use to read like that but I've found since I left school and have little to no stress now I don't read nearly as often. Back in the days (lol) I could have set my goal as high as 500 maybe even 750. Now I'm just getting squeaking in about 100. >.>
