Got 302.

message 302: by David (new)

David Hammond | 25 comments Darn, I just noticed two more typos in that quote:
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/47769...

Should read:
"...We put no checks on him. Go out and kill as many of a certain kind or classification of your brothers as you can..."

A capital "G", and "or" instead of "of".

Thanks!

Robin Craig Clark (rudhek) | 12 comments Would a lovely librarian please remove this quote for me, http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/81984... it was wrongly written and I deleted it and created a new version but his old one still shows up on my profile page http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... under "Quotes by Robin Clark." It's tagged only 'inspiring'

Many thanks,
Robin

Hey, I added a quote, but accidently tagged the wrong book! It's supposed to be Badass: A relentless onslaught of the toughts warlords, vikings, etc. by Ben Thompson. If someone could fix that for me, that'd be great!

Done. It looks like Dorothy Parker didn't originate it.

Most of Annie Proulx's stuff is under E. Annie Proulx. Can the attribution of these quotes be changed to match?

(and I guess the profiles should be merged, but I can't find how to do that)

An author merge will fix the books and quotes.

message 316: by Hanne (new)

Hanne (hanne2) I was just looking through quotes of a book i just read and i noticed the same quote is coming back three times.
is there anyone who can merge those?

https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes...

The quote i'm referring to is
“She never understood that love -- especially that of a child -- was the most necessary weight you can endure in life, even if it hurts, even if it tugs bags under the skin of your eyes. Without it, the soul skitters to the edge of the world and teeters there, confused.”

Barbara | 12 comments Could someone please edit the following quote I tried to add. It didn't have a preview option, and I messed it up. The second quotation marks should be after the word less, and the quote is from Dave and Neta Jackson's book Grounded I didn't know how to create a link to it. Sorry! Thank you so much!

“Grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us more - and grace also means there is nothing we can do to make God love us less.

Dave and Neta Jackson in Grounded”

message 321: by Matthew (new)

Matthew The quote "Tea is the elixer of life" attributed to Lao Tzu is WRONG.

http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/56429...

Lao Tzu did NOT mention tea at all !
Easy to confirm, as Lao Tzu only wrote the Tao Te Ching, which does not mention tea in either the Chinese original, nor in any English translations.

Please remove this quote.

(I found out about this as a friend wrote a book about tea, found this quote and included it in his book, which has already gone to press!!!)

message 322: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments The quote seems to be by Eisai from his book "How to Stay Healthy by Drinking Tea". I'll fix it when I get to a PC unless someone else does

Edited. As far as I can tell, we don't have that author or book in the system. (It's way, way pre-ISBN, so I guess that's not entirely surprising.)

Agreed. That was why I wasn't going to touch it while on the Android App. I'm a bit limited in what I can do at the moment 'coz I'm about four weeks away from a cataract operation (first of two, geez).

Could a librarian delete these quotes from me please?
I'm a new author still getting used to Goodreads and I hadn't realized that I couldn't delete these quotes by myself while I entered them. I need them gone since I've made changes to the book after posting these quotes.

Thank you,

Here's the quote: 'All this to say of course Gallo wants to get into your Little Mermaid panties. And if you don't get that, you're dumber than I ever thought, which gives me such a headache to even contemplate. The massive amount of your dumbness. It hurts me,' he whined.

Apologies for the delayed response. I forgot to check the notifs option for this thread.

I've been using your comment here as a guideline. Did I misunderstand your post? So personal thoughts of any author suffice for GR quote purposes, even though not found in any material or publication by said author or otherwise?

I've always been under the impression that full poems are frowned upon. I'm guessing, yes?

message 341: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments Complete poems or short stories ARE frowned upon but there are hundreds on Goodreads so I'm not sure where we draw the line.

On the subject of "any thoughts of an author" it would presumably depend on who the author was. Many of the quotes we already have we're never written down by the person they are attributed to (and that is ignoring the vast number that were most likely never even uttered by them in the first place).

message 342: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I'm talking about this particular poem where the author seems to be asking that it not be shared without her express consent.

message 343: by Banjomike (last edited Jun 30, 2013 04:23PM) (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments Melody wrote: "I'm talking about this particular poem where the author seems to be asking that it not be shared without her express consent."

Well, that is bizarre. If we really are talking about copyright violation then the only thing to do is refer it to the staff (or Rivka) and they can delete both the poem and the author from Goodreads. The poem because it is complete and the author because the poem seems to be the only reason for her to be on Goodreads in the first place. The author obviously has her reasons so let the staff know about it.

Edit: added 'reason'

message 344: by Elaine (new)

Having trouble parsing this. Are you saying the author is a Goodreads member?

message 346: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments rivka wrote: "Having trouble parsing this. Are you saying the author is a Goodreads member? "

I don't know if she is on Goodreads as an ordinary member as well as an author but the poem in question does seem to be the only thing she has written so if we or the staff remove the poem from Quotes as per her clearly stated desire there will be an empty author profile.

message 347: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
I see no evidence she is a member as an author. You seem to?

message 348: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments I don't think Banjomike is saying that she's a GR author, just that the profile that the quote is associated with ONLY has that quote. No books, fans, etc.

So if the quote is deleted we should poof the profile as well, since it will be empty.

message 349: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
We have a script for empty authors, so that's not really an issue.

message 350: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments As Vicky says, obviously better than I did.
