Done. Just what we need. Translated versions of something she probably didn't say even in English.

March 7, 1912: Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen announced that his expedition had successfully reached the South Pole, 99 years ago today.
This needs to be corrected as March 7, 1912 was 101 years ago today.
Thanks!

I've never seen a way of adding/editing a remark like that so I suspect it is a staff-only thing. Screwing-up the dates could also be a staff-only thing.
I found this comment:
"Adventure is Just Bad Planning" Roald Amundsen is supposed to have said that. Presumably, he said it as a natural sentence, without capitalized letters, and in Norwegian.
There don't appear to be any proofs that he said it, or anything like it.

Okay, thanks. If he didn't say it, it should probably be deleted, then. But it's the Quote of the Day, so that probably complicates matters greatly. I'll leave it to you (or another super-librarian) or a staff member to deal with / worry about further. :)

Nobody touches The Quote of the Day. Nobody.
Edit: Except Rivka.

Wonderful, thank you, Rivka!
Thanks also to Banjomike your help, too. :)

Seems to be very sensible behavior.

I have one more. My apologies.

March 15, 44 B.C.: Beware of any friends named Brutus! Julius Caesar laughed off a soothsayer's warning and was assassinated by his frenemy 2056 years ago today.

If you do the math, however, March 15, 44 BC was actually 2057 years ago. It'd be great if the "about" info could be changed to read "March 15, 44 B.C.: Beware of any friends named Brutus! Julius Caesar laughed off a soothsayer's warning and was assassinated by his frenemy 2057 years ago today."

There was no year zero. So the year before 1 A.D. was 1 B.C.. So the difference between 10 B.C. and 10 A.D. is 19 years not 20 'cos there is no year zero. On the face of it, 44 B.C. to 2013 A.D. should be (2013+44) or (2013-(-44)) but is actually 1 year less ie. 2056 years. If I've done the sums right.
See this:

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification (and the education!). :-)

Thanks. I keep mistyping the name.

The word 'uncommon' never appears in the text of Common Sense:

this quote about entrepreneurship is from the 1950s and not the 1770s!

I've moved them to Genevieve Pearson. I fairly sure they are from the Song of the Silvertongue but I can't pin them down. Yet.

Apparently commonly misattributed to Betty White, but this article it belongs to "#Sheng Wang" or possibly even another comedian? It's not clear how far it goes.

No one on the internet (read: first 2 pages of google) can cite a source for it. Here's a good discussion on the matter, including some persuasive research that the quote is not Lewis:
http://merecslewis.blogspot.com/2011/...
I believe the quotation is most accurately attributed to "unknown" or "anonymous." If Goodreads doesn't permit that, the quote should probably be deleted. (Though I would argue for keeping it with anonymous attribution. If it's completely removed, it will just show up again with C.S. Lewis's name on it.)
Here are some other places the misattribution appears on Goodreads:

Sounds too smarmy to be Lewis. I agree that there is no source visible. I intended to delete it but Alice and her "Goodreads request took too long" bug are getting in the way.
Note: this page includes a discussion on the quote:

They break the quote guidelines.
(PS: I know of a few authors that are quoting their own material as a means of gaming the system.)
