Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Hello, I'm Kirsten. I'm a certified Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) and Kindergarten-Grade 6 school teacher (OCT) currently looking for a job in one of those fields here in Ontario, Canada. This past year I was working part-time, going to school full-time, and then squeezed in a additional qualifications (AQ) correspondence course so my reading total took a beating. I am hoping this year will be less hectic with just working full-time (at a restaurant/coffee shop) and job hunting so I hope to be able to read a lot more.

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Oh & I am starting with Pure (Pure, #1) by Julianna Baggott

message 103: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 63 comments Oh, I forgot to say what kind of books I like to read. I'm a little out of it today. I like urban fantasy most of all, but I also like PNR, dystopian and steampunk. And I do like some YA as well...so pretty much anything that's not contemporary. And I really like Jane Austen, reading some classics is part of my reading goal this year.

message 104: by Erin (last edited Jan 01, 2013 07:38PM) (new)

Erin (ecardwell) Hi everyone! My name is Erin and I'm a first year university student in Ontario. I've been a reader for as long as I can remember and I'm hoping to have a book filled year! My favourite genres are usually fantasy, young adult, action/adventure and paranormal. I started the year with The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, which was short fluffy and sweet, and I am continuing with Sovay.

Aside from reading I'm a soccer player and a huge fan of music,

I'm very excited for this challenge! :) go team c!!!

message 105: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (mrsreads) | 50 comments Happy New Year, everyone! My name is Tanya and I live in Michigan. I used to work in efficiency consulting, but now I'm a SAH mom to a headstrong three year old daughter.

I love reading more than anything...with the possible exception of spending time on Goodreads. I read a lot of different genres, but I especially love mysteries and nonfiction.

I'd also like to volunteer as a co-captain.

I can't wait to get to reading. Go team! :)

message 106: by Kellyanne (new)

Kellyanne Happy New Year! (This is old news here in Australia. It is already the afternoon of the 2nd, and I am back at work. Boohoo.)

But, I do work from home, as a freelance copy editor, and I live at the beach, so it could be worse.

This year I am starting my third degree (a Bachelor of Botany. I also have a Bachelor of Modern History and a Masters of Linguistics) AND starting a family (fingers crossed!). Reading keeps me sane!!

My New Years Resolution is to read more Australian Female authors, but I have already broken that resolution by falling in love with the opening chapters of The Book Thief The Book Thief by Markus Zusak . But next up will be Cocaine Blues Cocaine Blues (Phryne Fisher, #1) by Kerry Greenwood and then hopefully Saving Francesca Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta depending on the whim of the powers that be at my local library :)

I don't know much about the mobile app, Samantha, other than when I go to the library and look up my GRs bookshelves there.

Do you ever get on a regular computer to be able to update things?

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments I'd be happy to volunteer as a co-captain as well... I think Karen & Tanya also volunteered?

Do we wanna go with a few people to share out the responsibilities? Anyone else interested? How mamny do we need?

I like the idea of a name but I'm awful at trying to pick them!

I love it, can be challenging at times as you have to deal with people accused of some pretty awful offences. If you've any specific questions about the law here feel free to ask!

I'm a bit worried as a friend told me it wasn't worth reading, so I am trying not to let that color my opinion!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Good Morning Team C!!! **waves at all my friends and team members**

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday but I got off from work and was TIRED LOLOL I took a shower, ate supper, went to bed to read ☺

I see a lot of friends and familiar faces here ☺ but for those of you who don't know me, I'm Robin. I joined GR in 2011 but really didn't involved with the groups/challenges until the latter part of that year. Since I joined some of the groups I have become addicted to challenges which has turned my TBR into a mountain ☺

I am from the Nashville TN area but currently live in a tiny village out in the middle of nowhere NE LOL Second to reading my other favorite hobby is crocheting. I used to strictly read just romance/historical christian fiction but in the last couple of years I have branched out and started reading fiction/paranormal/YA and a few other genres. I don't read many bios/autobios/non-fiction and avoid horror like it's a plague LOL.

I normally don't chat a whole lot but sometimes I will pipe up and put my 2 cents in lol. I don't write reviews but if asked by a group member I will give my opinion on a book.

At this time, I would prefer not to be a team captain because being out in the middle of nowhere we have a lot of problems with our internet going down.It goes down at least once a day sometimes for just a few minutes, hours or it could be days LOL. We just never know until it's not there.

It's been a pleasure meeting everyone and I really look foward to this challenge and chatting with everyone about books, reading and life in general!!!

Aneeqah | 322 comments I love the team name we have going here. I think it's fantastic!

So I finished up my second book of the year, Rebel Heart (Dust Lands, #2) by Moira Young , which was quite a clunker at 500 something pages! It was frustrating yet a good read at the same time. Odd combination. ;)

It's great seeing some new faces here! Welcome everybody!!

Sara (silenceatthelibrary) Hello, my name is Sara, i'm from Croatia, and (unfortunately) I still go to high school. And instead of going out with friends, like any other normal teenage girl, I preffer to stay home and read.

I mostly read ya, but I am trying to read more adult and dystopian books since I don't read enough of those.

My other interests include, but are not limited to: Sherlock, Psych, TMNT, Power Rangers and Batman!!!

The first book I started this year (and hope to finish before i go to sleep) is The Fault in Our Stars (sorry, I can't do links), and after that I'm gonna read Anna Karenina and Les Miserables, bacause the movies are coming out this month around here.

Vikki & Karen (and anyone else that had volunteered that I might have missed), we could divvy up the work in a couple ways. We could either rotate the entire batch of responsibilities, or we could split up the work and each be responsible for a certain element of the job over the course of the challenge. (Personally, I think the latter option would be easiest to keep track of.)

I LOVE the team name, by the way! :)

It's good to see another person still in high school here! I was starting to think that I was the only teenager here. ;) But I'm just like you, I'm not much of a social or normal teenager, I always prefer reading.

message 134: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments Also, just in case anybody wanted an update on where everyone is in this challenge in the first 2 days:

Team A has read a total of 14 books. [2nd]
Team B has read a total of 16 books. [1st]
Team C has read a total of 12 books. [3rd]
Team D has read a total of 10 books. [4th]

So, right now we are in 3rd place, behind by 4 books for 1st place and behind by 2 books for 2nd place.

The latter might be easier... and then if someone's away on holidays or not gonna be about much with other commitments then the others can cover those jobs?
But maybe worth everyone keeping an eye if there's any problems, I think we're all different countries, so covers the time zones pretty well then.

Please watch your book pages. Some books are being posted that are less than 170 pages. Private Messages are being sent out asking members to “untag” them from challenge their bookshelves. Thank you!

P.S. I'm a GRs Librarian. I can change a page count, if you can refer me to an alternative edition, and need this done. (I'm only checking other editions on GRs.)

Ooops!

Edited the first post to read:

REMINDERS
◈ Books must be over 170 pages in length for this challenge. We will be
monitoring this closely. Also, no graphic novels, manga, or children's picture books.
◈ Your book must have a start and stop reading date. Some of you may not be used
to doing this. These dates can be edited in the review screen of each book. Or, if you
update the current book you are reading from your update screen (upper right),
it will do the dates automatically.
◈ Remember to tag every book you read to your special bookshelf or
Team C won't get credit for it!

OK I'm not used to doing a start date but I think I did this right lol I went to my shelf and went into the main settings and added the start date and of course the read date was already there. I had my first book for 2013 on there and entered my start date which was Jan. 1 and my end date was Jan 2. So now on that shelf I have a date started, date read and a date added. Is this what you are asking for? I'm horrible about adding books as currently reading LOLOL and if I do I forget to update them.

message 150: by Cathie (last edited Jan 02, 2013 09:08PM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Hi team mates :-). My name's Cathie and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I joined Goodreads last August.

I'm in the counselling health sector and studied Anthropology and Women's Studies for my B.A. I also have Counselling and Social Service workers diplomas. It all just means I spent a lot of time at schools trying to figure out what I wanted to do, other than being a student :-)

I have taken some Creative Writing Courses. I like to draw and doodle when I'm not reading, love music and dancing and tinkering on my keys and I love anything that has to do with sharing a good story - people, books (obviously), movies, theatre, vgames.

I'm open to going along with any decision that the group makes in regards to team leader and group name.

Happy reading everyone! :-)
