message 1164: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) This week I read 3 books for this challenge: Summerset Abbey (Summerset Abbey, #1) by T.J. Brown (too depressing for my taste, but writing was very good) Bled Dry (Vegas Vampires, #3) by Erin McCarthy (classic pnr romance with vampires) The Siren Depths (Books of the Raksura, #3) by Martha Wells (high fantasy with wonderful world descriptions and intriguing race of main characters). And I think even two of them have red details. Yay for me.
I started Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher which also has a red font, but I doubt I will finish it until tomorrow.

message 1166: by Christina (new)

Christina (iceprincess) | 51 comments My internet has been giving me fits so I haven't really been online, but I did get some good reading in. :) A Rush of Wings (The Maker's Song, #1) by Adrian Phoenix was just a little too all over the place for me and kind of disappointing. Until the Sun Falls from the Sky (The Three, #1) by Kristen Ashley and Riding the Storm (ACRO, #1) by Sydney Croft were pretty good. And I loved Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and can't believe I put off reading it for so long. I'm about to start If I Were You (Inside Out Trilogy, #1) by Lisa Renee Jones next.

message 1167: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I think I picked the wrong day to read P.S. I Love You, I'm already feeling emotional so I'm crying at most of the chapters! But it's such a good book!

message 1168: by Amy (new)

Amy I've been reading the lunar chronicles Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer and Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer . They both have red. And they are both great. In fact I think I like Scarlet even better than Cinder. I was already involved in the "world" so I didn't need to put the pieces together as much. I'm not a big fan of Young Adult books, but these are really interesting. Traditional Fairy Tales blended with stronger female characters and a dose of Sci-Fi world building. I'm only sad that I started these so soon. Now I have to wait for the next two. lol

message 1170: by Christal (new)

Christal | 72 comments Finished Dance of Shadows (Dance of Shadows, #1) by Yelena Black , Dancing in the Dark by Robyn Bavati , and The Lost (Celestial Blues, #2) by Vicki Pettersson . The last two were really good, but the first not so much.

message 1171: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments finished All the Paths of Shadow by Frank Tuttle , reading Green (Green Universe #1) by Jay Lake

message 1172: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments Amy, I actually went to the author's signing last week and got to meet with her!! I really enjoyed Cinder (and bought Scarlet, which was personalized for me) and can't wait to pick up Scarlet. =) I'm glad you've liked the series so much so far!!

Christal, what did you think of Dance of the Shadows? I've seen some mixed reviews so far.

So I am currently reading Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu , which I'm sure I'll finish either tonight or early tomorrow.

message 1173: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I finished The Highlander's Fury by Maeve Greyson which was wonderfully romantic.

This weekend I have to read a few library books that need to be returned by Tuesday. So I have the following books ready to go Grendel by John Gardner Sea Hunter by Paul Garrison Blue Latitudes Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before by Tony Horwitz and not a red book in sight. :(

Not offensive so much as annoying. They are finding fault with the authors lack of correct historical information as well as the Japanese language that is used in the book. I have vague ideas of Japanese culture so these things didn't bother me. Though I remember one review mentioning panda bears - which I believe are Chinese not Japanese- but they appeared in the book anyway. Also the author made some pretty nasty comments about not caring what people said about his book.

Don't have any purple cover books for next week :( but am planning to hopefully read at least one white cover book for the final week!

How's everyone doing??? Me, I'm doing good. I miss hanging around GR but try to stop in every chance I get ☺ Looks like everyone is reading some good books and for the most part enjoying them!!

I haven't read a lot the last couple of weeks that meet the page number qualifications for this challenge. I think out of 7 or 8 books I had 2 or 3 that I could add here :( I have some other challenges that I desperately need to finish up/work on and the books for those are/have been less than 170 pages LOL Go figure...Right?

Anyways just wanted to stop in and say hi and hopefully later today or tomorrow I will get my books posted for all of my challenges and get caught back up with everyone and my groups!!!

Take care and see you all on the flip side ☺

If you like highlanders, time travel and strong heroines, you should enjoy it.

message 1181: by Barbara ★ (last edited Feb 16, 2013 07:52PM) (new)

Barbara ★ I finished Grendel by John Gardner which I greatly disliked and Sea Hunter by Paul Garrison which I liked I've read it before though I didn't realize it until 1/4 way through. I need something a little lighter so I will start Calamity Jayne by Kathleen Bacus tomorrow which looks like it'll work for purple.

Christal | 72 comments Aneeqah wrote: "Christal, what did you think of Dance of the Shadows? I've seen some mixed reviews so far...."

I didn't really care for it, Aneeqah. The idea was good but the actual story was poorly executed and all the characters were pretty flat.

message 1184: by Christina (new)

Christina (iceprincess) | 51 comments Finished If I Were You (Inside Out Trilogy, #1) by Lisa Renee Jones and Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst . Next up is Anew (The Archers of Avalon, #1) by Chelsea Fine .

message 1185: by Kellyanne (new)

Kellyanne So to celebrate Valentine's week, I read two very different love stories Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover and The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion . (I also read Changeless (Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger , LOVE that series and can't wait till Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger arrives in my mail box!)

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Slammed at all. I liked the Slam poetry idea, but the rest was a mixture of too sappy or too contrived :( I had such high hopes. But that said, I am not really a traditional romantic, so the problem is probably more so with me. I did think it would be a great book for an actual YA audience (rather than an adult enjoying YA. The messages were much more strongly geared to that age bracket).

Luckily the Rosie Project was great, so I still got my romance fix!

Will finish God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut today. Haven't quite decided what is up next... Some possibilities are The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón or maybe Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë ??

I hope you end up enjoying the series, gwendolyn! The last book has to be my least favorite, unfortunately. The first two are spectacular though!

So I finished up Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu last night, and I was [and still am] far too heartbroken over the ending to start something new. That's the problem with reading a book like that, I suppose. After recovering a bit, I will be finishing up The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan next, and then moving onto The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy, #1) by Mindee Arnett once my Kindle charges. =)
