How did you like Mr. Penumbra's? I need to read that this month too.

message 1006: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Finished Agatha Raisin and the Terrible Tourist (Agatha Raisin, #6) by M.C. Beaton which I liked in the beginning but ended up greatly disliking (the heroine that is). I'm currently reading In Golden Blood by Stephen Woodworth

message 1007: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Hi Barbara; I gave Penumbra's 3 stars. It was ok, but I found there was too much going on...like it was trying to please everyone ~ a book quest and mysterious Reading society, high tech geeks and the power of Google and search functions; plus other adventures that would spoil the story if I told you all about them :-)

message 1008: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Oh Midu, let me know how you like the Assassin's Apprentice! I've been eyeing this one for awhile now.

I read this one awhile ago (2009) and gave it 4 stars. I never did get back to the others in the trilogy though I did read other books by Robin Hobb set in the same place which were all 5 star reads. She's a phenominal writer.

Oh no. I have to read it for the SRC Winter challenge and have been dreading it. I better start it soon since it might take a while to finish.

message 1012: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments ack! i'm sticking to The Lost Recipe for Happiness by Barbara O'Neal then. I just hope it isn't too mushy!

message 1013: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I have heard great things about Robin Hobb.

Barbara, that was my opinion only; many many people have rated it 4 & 5 stars so you may be very pleasantly surprised.

Boy I surely hope so. I've read too many books this past month that have just be so-so. I'm definitely hoping for something more enjoyable.

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments hows Behemoth (Leviathan, #2) by Scott Westerfeld so far?

message 1018: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I really like it. I'm about halfway through (doing it as a buddy read so it's taking longer to read). A few twists and surprises. A rather clever steampunk series mixed with Darwinian creatures. Very interesting.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Nancy & Christal, welcome to the team. :)

@Midu & Cathie: I read Farseer Triology last year, although it was not spectacular, it was still solid 4-star red for me. I liked Robin Hobb's writing and will probably read more this year. I hope you are enjoyin 'Assassin's Apprentice' too.

I should finish Quidditch Through The Ages by J.K. Rowling tonight, but because it's so short it doesn't count for this challenge sadly :/ But I needed a Q for my A-Z title challenge!

message 1029: by Christal (new)

Christal | 72 comments I just finished Between Two Thorns by Emma Newman , which I loved, and The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson , which was interesting. I'm about to start either Dancing in the Dark by Robyn Bavati or Dance of Shadows (Dance of Shadows, #1) by Yelena Black , though I'm leaning to the first one.

@Dragana - I'm totally kicking myself because I forgot to pick up Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas yesterday when it was the daily deal at Amazon. Did you like it?

message 1030: by Jayme Pendergraft (new)

message 1040: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Welcome Nancy & Christal - great to have a few more peole on our team :o)

Sorry I've not been about so much over the past few days, not been a very good week. To cut a long story short, someone I was very fond of passed away at the weekend, I'm friends with a lot of the family. He'd been in bad health for well over a year but still very sad.

Anyway on a happier note... finished another book for the challenge - Angelology which has been on my shelf for ages. Finally got round to reading it. Rated it 4 stars, although I found parts of the 2nd section a bit slow.

message 1042: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) @Midu: Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb Yes, he is cute as a kid. I liked his pets also very much.

@Christal: Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas Bookworm heroine who is btw notorious assassin. What's not to like? LOL. Book had a love triangle and a little bit less world building than I like but still I liked it. I will definitely pick up next book as soon as it is available.

@Karen: A Night Like This (Smythe-Smith Quartet #2) by Julia Quinn was not bad. I love funny quirky families that Julia Quinn creates. But I had problems with insta-love type of romance in this book and sometimes I felt like I am reading "Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron". There is amount of evil villains, murder attempts and kidnaps that one historical romance novel can contain before it becomes ridiculous.

Well, I hope I did not miss to answer to anyone. :) I'm off to bed with my Kindle. Happy reading to you all! ;)

All the challenges I'm in right now are spell it outs, so I just find a book that fits with the right color cover. LOL

message 1044: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I finished Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas early this morning. I think it has enough pink in it to count, right?

★ gwiz ★ (ggwiz) | 760 comments Midu wrote: "will start Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb tomorrow"

Midu I read Farseer and Tawny Man series last year. Borrowed from the library and enjoyed them so much I have been getting my own copies. I only have 2 more to get in hardcopy but I only been able to find them over priced, so eartier today I found Assassin's Apprentice in paperback (need Royal Assassin ) and will get those two in hardcopy later on if I find them at a better price.

So you know (if you dont) there are 4 series to the whole Realms of Elderlins and they are in this order

Farseer Trilogy
Liveship Traders Trilogy
Tawny Man Trilogy
Rain Wilds Chronicles

Farseer and Tawny Man are about Fitz and Fool
Liveship and RAin Wilds is about the dragons and living ships and are in the countries south/west of where Farseer and Tawny Man action mostly happens. I would recommand that you read both that I did - they really complete the whole story of both Fitz and Fool. I was told that you do get some more detail of the world with the other two series but I didnt miss them at all. But may someday go back and read them.

Hope you enjoy the read :D

It sounds like something I'd enjoy and the other choices didn't. We'll see as I'm hoping to start it tomorrow.

message 1047: by Barbara ★ (last edited Feb 07, 2013 03:35PM) (new)

Barbara ★ This morning I read (well skimmed mostly so I won't count it) More Book Lust Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason by Nancy Pearl . It was ok but was touting non-fiction and Oprah-type books which I don't read (unless I have to!). I was hoping for a little more from this but was sadly disappointed.

I've been reading Toehold A Novel by Stephen H. Foreman on and off all day at work. It's quirky but there's really not much action so it's been difficult to hold my attention.

Without realizing these series were connected, I read Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb and then jumped to the Liveship Traders trilogy which I absolutely loved. I was planning this year to read the Rain Wild chronicles but changed my mind and plan to go back and finish the Farseer Trilogy first. I just love her writing style.

★ gwiz ★ (ggwiz) | 760 comments Not doing the color cover mini challenge unless one of the books that I have schedule for the month happens to fall into the right week and the right color. If Im correct the color is pink this week and lookie see what happen I gots a pink cover :D

Finish reading The Witch Is Back (Jolie Wilkins #4) by H.P. Mallory early this morning.

Just one more of the series to read. Should be done tonight with it. I love one day books ;-)

I know some of ya have been texting about your yearly reading goal. I took my goal of 150 books and divided by the number of days in the year and figure that I need to read a book every 2 1/2 days. I been working on getting ahead (7 books - 4% so far-that's why I love books I can read in a day). I hope to get 10% and then I'll be able to relax and really sink my eyes into one of those week long books.

Barbara from what I can tell from the books you have read I think you will enjoy reading the whole Farseer Trilogy. Maybe even read Tawny Man before you get to Rain Wild chronicles. I would love to hear what you think when you get done with Farseer :D
