Diane! Don't give up. Is your bookshelf name more than one word? If so, DID YOU TYPE IN A HYPHEN between the words when you tried to enter it? You need to do that.

Aneeqah | 322 comments Hello, hello everyone! I'm seeing a lot of familiar faces and can't wait to jump in!

So, first things first, we need a Team Captain, yes? Any volunteers? We also need to decide if we're going to be alternating or not.

Looks like I missed out all the excitement at the beginnning, haha. I was with the family at the time of the countdown. ;)

I'm planning to start If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman today, after hanging around on the Internet for a little.

Let's do this guys! *throws confetti in the air*

message 80: by Erin (new)

Erin (ecardwell) Sandy, I'm extremely interested in how you found The Casual Vacancy. I'd love to hear your thoughts when you finish reading it

message 81: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Can I suggest we should maybe do some introductions to ourselves... I'm not sure I recognise any names. Might be nice to get to know each other a little.

I like the idea of alternating - or even having a couple of people to share the load. Life can get in the way sometimes so might be handier?

message 82: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'm Lisa Kay, and I'm the moderator doing the NBRC Tower Team Challenge. You'll see me sign-off sometimes as "~LK" (when I remember) under that sign-on. I know several of you from around GRs. I mainly read romance, but some YA, fantasy, and biography.

I'm pretty busy right now as mod. LOL! This challenge is having a bigger response than we were expecting. So, I'm going to ask NOT to be Team Captain. However, when things calm down a bit, and the captain wants to go on vacation sometime this year, maybe I can help out.

I'm open for any ideas on a Team Name.

message 83: by Renee (new)

Renee My name is Danielle. I work full time in Marketing but my real passion is reading and volunteering in the deaf community. I wish I had more time for reading, I would read all day if I could. If only I could get paid to do that it would be great.
I read a wide variety of books. I love legal thrillers, mysteries, historical fiction, JAFF, and even some biographies. My favorites will always be the classics though. I am really getting into Russian literature. Not exactly the easiest books to read but I love learning about the culture and people through the novels.

I am excited to see what everyone here will be reading. I have found some great new authors from this group. Oh and just so you know I blame this group for the increase in books I have on my shelf. But Amazon thanks you. :-)

message 84: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments My turn I guess....

I'm Vikki, from Northern Ireland. I'm a lawyer, my main area of interest being criminal law. I'm self-employed so my time's reasonably flexible.

I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. Can't imagine life without books. I read a little bit of everything.... chick lit, paranormal, crime/legal, historical fiction, classics... Or anything that sounds like a good read.

Goodreads has probably made my book addiction worse. My to-read shelf never really seems to get smaller. There are so many great books out there to be read and I'm sure I'll never get time to read them all! But I'll enjoy trying.

Apart from that my big love in life is music - playing, listening to, going to concerts. I also enjoy penpalling. And 101 other things I guess...

Enough about me!!

Jayme Pendergraft | 20 comments Hi Team C!

I'm Jayme and I live in Virginia, but was born and raised in New Hampshire I work in the disability employment policy field and keep pretty busy.

I love to read pretty much anything, but do tend to stick to mostly fiction. I have a long commute so listen to lots of audio books. I'm usually over at the Seasonal Reading Challenge page, attempting to get close to finishing. :)

I'm starting with The Twelve (The Passage, #2) by Justin Cronin for this year. I am also reading one I can't count bc. I started too soon, but I highly recommend it-- Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt . It's a really great book.

Any way, off to read!

message 86: by Panda (last edited Jan 01, 2013 04:39PM) (new)

Panda | 7 comments I'm Jessica from eastern Australia. I am starting a science/engineering degree this year so I'm going to be super busy. I have a gazzilion interests and so my reading list tends to be somewhat erratic (particularly to an outsider). My husband and I are addicted to books, and have a huge physical library (2000 plus). Thus, my to-read list is ridiculously large and I'm constantly adding to it.

If I were to choose my favourite genres I'd say

fiction: romance, erotica, post-apocalyptic
non-fiction: science, history.

I'm currently reading Mastery, a carry-over from last year, but once I finish I will begin the challenge with Beyond Exile - the 2nd book from a zombie series that I am really enjoying.

I'm looking forward to participating in this challenge with everybody else. Go team c! :)

message 88: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 63 comments Yay Team C!

I'm Julianne, I've been MIA from here for several months as I left my husband, so now I'm a single mom of a 13yo boy and I've got a new life. That's pretty much it about me right now...trying to figure out what to do next. :)

I'll be reading Tracking the Tempest by Nicole Peeler for my first book of the year.

message 89: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (disney4me) | 32 comments I'm Melinda. I live in Kansas. I'm an avid reader, but find that real world life tends to interfere. :-) I'm hoping to double my reading time this year, but will have to see what's in store for me in the coming new year.

My genre is anything to do with the paranormal and prefer shapeshifters, vampires, witches and fae. I live in my own little world and do my best to ignore "reality". Hee! Hee!

I wish I could blame Goodreads for my hoarding, but, well, I was hoarding books long before I began participating (much to the dismay of my hubby). However, I have no regrets, I just keep telling my hubby we need a bigger house. LOL!

So, here's to Team C! Good luck to everyone!

message 90: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Hello all ---
This is my first challenge with this group --- I really like the idea of a group challenge.

My name is JoLene and I live in the CA Bay area. I like to read a variety of mostly historical fiction, fantasy and mysteries. This year, I've decided to read some of the "chunky monkeys" on my shelves (unfortunately for this challenge, so I won't quite tally up the books. I am a co-moderator over at the Historical Fictionistas group.

In real life -- I'm in job transition. I took a early retirement package and now need to decide what I want to do now since I'm a bit too young to retire. I live in the CA Bay area.

Can I ask, what are the duties of the Team Captain?? Since GR will be doing the tallying, what are our status reports?

Go Team C!!!

message 91: by Melissa (ladybug) (last edited Jan 01, 2013 06:23PM) (new)

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments Hello and Happy New Year! everyone. My name is Melissa and I live in New Mexico. I was born and raised in Tenn though and NM and TN are really different. I was reading ever since I can remember and do not remember ever "learning" to read. In real life I work as the Office Manager at the local Police Department and find it a good job. I can read if there isn't anything going on. I look forward to the challenge with everyone here.

My favorite genres are Classics, Sci-fi, Fantasy (like with fairys and elves) and supernatural romance such as Christine Feehan.

JoLene wrote: "Can I ask, what are the duties of the Team Captain?? Since GR will be doing the tallying, what are our status reports?"

I need to know who the Team Captain is and if the team decides on a Team Name.

There is someone responsible for reading the Status Update (Team Captains) thread.

If someone hasn't entered the challenge on the Home Page.

If someone signed up for the wrong team. (Hasn't happened yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.)

If someone hasn't added any books at all...or for a very long time (respective to their book goal).

If someone is having trouble adding a book, and if the Team Captain can't help them.

The Team standing, in relation to the other Teams, could be posted as an update in the Team thread.

Plus, I'd kind of like a bi-monthly update that "all is well" from the TC.

Can't think of anything else...my brain is fried.

Hi ! I am Karen Booklover , as you can see from my name I love books LOL.
I'm from Kolkata, India . I'm currently studying finance , Chartered accountancy (finance and audit) and corporate law.

I love reading all genres of books but over the past few years have been on an absolutely constant reading of mainly historical romance with a bit of contemporary thrown in , but this year intend to go back and read some other genres again !

I love challenges and spend a lot of time on GR when I should be studying :p :p . I love making new friends and look forward to chatting with all of you and looking forward to new friends :)

I too would prefer rotating captains and would like to volunteer as one . :D

I am out on vacation and will be reading quite a number of books but will not be able to add them on the shelf till I come back because I only have my smartphone and I can't do it there.

message 94: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 4 comments Hi, I'm Samantha Hedrick and I'm really excited about doing this but I'm not sure how to set up my shelf and stuff because I'm on the mobile app. I live in North central Indiana and I've been an avid reader since I feel in love with the movie Gone with the Wind and then read the book when I was in fourth grade. I usually have a few books going at a time. I always have an actual book to hold and read. Then I have a book going in either my nook account or my mom's kindle account for before bed or when not home. I'm starting the year with "Wedding Season"

I'm trying something new and reading a good number of books outside my comfort zone. We'll see how long that lasts.

message 96: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Diana wrote: "Barbara, I've always wanted to read The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston! Please post reviews so that I can see how the book is. It's been in my TBR pile forever!"

I tried to read it this morning and gave up within the introduction. I picked up something else and I'll try again when I'm done with that book. I'm not much on non-fiction but I'll post a review so you can decide.

message 97: by Amy J. (new)

Amy J. | 686 comments I'm Amy. I teach psychology at a community college in Kansas. I am originally from Iowa.

I read mostly fiction (though I'm going to try to read some non-fiction this year). I love sci-fi, fantasy, PNR, romance, and horror novels.

Barbara ★ Diana wrote: "I give up."

Diana, you have to enter the name with the - symbol since GR automatically adds it to each shelf if it's more than one word. I had to do it about 5 times before I remembered.

message 99: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments I guess I really should jump on the intro bandwagon...

My name is Aneeqah, and I currently reside in Texas, where I've lived for about a year and a half. I moved from Indiana, where I lived for 8 years. I read mainly YA, more specifically urban fantasy/paranormal.

So I've finished my first book of the year, If I Stay, which was pretty short and emotional.

How are you all doing in terms of reading? And do we have any volunteers for our Team Captain yet?

message 100: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jan 01, 2013 07:16PM) (new)

Barbara ★ Hi everyone, I'm from New Jersey and read about a book a day (unless it's non-fiction, then it's harder to keep my interest and takes longer). I work full time and have a daily commute of 2-1/2 hours (so I listen to audiobooks in addition to reading - usually about 2 a month).

I have no interest in being captain as I'd rather be reading! I'm not creative enough to come up with a team name so hopefully someone else can.

I've changed my first book to Ship of Destiny (Liveship Traders, #3) by Robin Hobb because I couldn't get into the one I originally chose.
