'The Secret Garden,' written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and published in 1911, has been beloved by generations. Made into a stage play and numerous movies, this enchanting story remains a popular classic today.

'The Forgotten Room' begins a few months after the original concludes, continuing the stories of Mary, Colin, Dickon and the rest of the beloved characters from 'The Secret Garden.' This is the story of what happens next to the people of Misselthwaite Manor.

Mary finds another secret, learns more about herself, her friends, gets a tutor, nearly succumbs to her parents’ fate, and faces a crucial decision or two. Written with the style and heart of the original

I self-published my first fantasy novel, "A Blacksmith's Quest" on Amazon. The novel is about a blacksmith slave who aids a kingdom against the aggression of an evil empire. As many aspiring authors know the monumental challenge of breaking into the literary world can be discouraging, and i am looking to get feedback and reviews on my novel. i would be glad to provide a copy to anyone interest in reading a novel for free. I am looking forward to making new acquaintances and interacting with like-minded book-lovers like myself. I have attached a link to my novel on Amazon.

Dean Blake (deanblake) | 3 comments Hey everyone, here's my latest book of short stories, Surface Children.

Synopsis:

--
“SHORT STORIES FROM A GENERATION CONSUMED BY VANITY, SELF-INDULGENCE, AND A TWISTED UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE AND HEARTBREAK”

Australian author Dean Blake has once again demonstrated his mastery of the art of storytelling in this much-anticipated collection of short stories.

From a satirical tale of a group of teenagers who crave nothing but perfection to a horrific account of a young man who claims to eat people, Surface Children introduces its readers to a generation consumed by vanity, self-indulgence, violence, and a twisted understanding of love and heartbreak.

Addictive, funny, brave, and sometimes heartbreaking, Surface Children is said to be Dean Blake’s most significant work to date.

David Burke (davidgordonburke) | 6 comments Here's my first book that just went online today. It's a dog book - a memoir, training manual, family history and social commentary about the dog's in our lives and how they affect us all.
My best review was from someone who stated that although he isn't a dog person (or any pet at all for that matter) he got caught up in the story and wanted to read more. If it wins over the non-animal crowd then it should work with the 'Marley and me' demographic.

http://www.amazon.com/Rose-Any-Other-...

It's only 99 cents on-line but I'm giving it away to anyone who requests a copy in exchange for massively exaggerated reviews.

Drop me a line at davidburke63@gmail.com and indicate your preferred format .mobi, .epub or .pdf.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out. (not a library pun...haha)

message 114: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 7 comments Hi,
I'm Lorraine. My book, ''The Pencil Case'' is a slightly fictionalized biography that has generated surprising controversy by countering one of the greatest myths of Australian history - that members of the''Stolen Generation'' were all Aboriginals taken because of their colour.

''The Pencil Case'' follows a native-born fifth generation white Australian stolen child, Paul Wilson, from his bush home, through a series of institutions and foster homes, and through an eventful adult life desperately searching for his identity, love, a sense of belonging, and self-respect. Paul's father knew there was only one way to survive against cruel injustice. It took Paul 60 years to learn.

I've been branded a racist, a liar, and a fraud for exposing an unpopular truth. I've been accused of denigrating Aboriginals. I do not. I sympathize with them deeply. I know their pain intimately. But tens of thousands of native-born white Australians suffered the same fate - taken from loving homes, usually because of poverty, and incarcerated; kept apart from family; denied knowledge of their origins and culture. It is a crime that has never been truthfully acknowledged, and will almost certainly never be redressed. And it was a crime committed for financial gain. It was all about jobs for bureaucrats and funding of state Child Welfare Departments, and profit for the churches that ran children's homes on shoestring budgets, criminally depriving the children in their care and giving generous thankyou gifts to the officials who continued to line their coffers by bringing kids there.

It's been said that this is a book you will read between tears and fits of rage. But it's also one about survival and winning against the odds. It's a story that will reassure you of the enormous strength of the human spirit, and the power of family love.

Her peaceful mountain refuge has been invaded, her inexplicable nausea linked to his physical presence. She's captive in his house for her "protection," with a churning stomach, his bad attitude, and no safe way home.

All that changed the night the stars aligned.

Now he's talking about ancient bloodlines and celestial alignments...and other things she only believes because of what she's seen him do. He's heading out for revenge against the family who wronged him, and he needs her help. All she has to do is ingest one homemade dissolving tablet to allow him into her mind--to train her to be just like him.

The answer would be a definite no if she had anything of her world left. If she hadn't fallen in love with him.

Book One of THE ALIGNMENT SERIES, a blend of modern fantasy, action, and romance.

An historical thriller based in the American Revolution. Young Jonathan E. Lee is falsely accused of heinous war crimes by his treacherous regimental commander! Jonathan is forced to flee the colonies to save his neck from the hangman's noose, fighting his way across a stormy Atlantic and then joining a mercenary army that is deploying to warring Siam, a kingdom that is squirming under the iron-fist of a madman.

Greetings! I am Dr. Leonardo Noto, a former military battalion surgeon. The idea for "The Life of a Colonial Fugitive" was born out of my passion for American military history and my enthusiasm for the sport of muay Thai (Thai boxing). While training in a Thai boxing camp during the days and working on a novel based in the American Revolution during the nights, I noticed that Thai history during the 1780s was as turbulent as the American history of the period. After two years of detailed research, including nearly forty references, "The Life of a Colonial Fugitive" was born. I hope that you enjoy reading my novel as much as I enjoyed writing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent story teller. October 26, 2013

A. - See all my reviews
This review is from: "Fairmount": "Terror In The Park" (Paperback)
My goodness, Mr. Gregory Boulware, your back cover blurb doesn't prepare us for the interior. Thank you - and your author photo is beautiful also.

Mr. Boulware is an excellent storyteller and, with definite twists and turns, this book is not for the faint hearted. Gruesome and grizzly, but at the same time highly readable, at no time does the story fall flat. I had a couple of problems with quote marks/direct speech, but in no way does that detract from a very readable story. Gregory's interview at the end is excellent and gives added insight into the author's abilities.

Very well done, Gregory. Here's wishing you success with many more.

5-stars - and no mistake.

"The Spirit of The Soul and The Death of Morals": Whence comest thou?”
http://boulwareenterprises.wordpress....

“They (the machines) were dependent on solar power. It was believed they would be unable to survive without an energy source as abundant as the sun.” “What is control?” “No one cares how it works, as long as it works!”
The tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi were forced out of the Land of Israel around 70 AD. This was due to the Hebrew-Roman wars that resulted in the deaths of thousands of Black Hebrew Israelites. Primarily women, men, and children were slaughtered by an over powering Army of Roman soldiers and conscripts in their Empire domain. The remnant of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi fled primarily to West Africa to escape death and prosecution around 70 AD.

This review is from: "The Spirit of The Soul and The Death of Morals": Whence comest thou? (Paperback)

Are you tired of all the hypocrisy? Where is the caring, and where has morality gone? Are you questioning your faith? Are you curious and yet confused about other religions? When is the last time you read something and really felt those words touch your soul? If you have experienced any of the above, The Spirit of the Soul, and the Death of Morals is a must read. It will answer many of your questions about religions, faith, traditions, and cultures.

It will make you want to learn more, and this is a good thing. It will expand your mind, and don't we all need this; or would you rather turn on The Bachelorette, or one of those senseless gossip shows.
If you have been searching for answers in your life and you want to be a grounded person, I highly recommend this book. It is a fast read.

The pages are double spaced, and great for those of us whose vision is not what it used to be. I think you will definitely enjoy this read.

I'm glad I did.

Hal Eisenberg (halacious) | 2 comments Overnight Sensation by Hal Eisenberg Hi there. My name is Jonah Levine, I'm 15 years old, and it used to be that every time I tried to talk to a girl, my IQ would drop 50 points. Seriously. It sounded like my tongue had been caught in a blender. And I had like five Facebook friends... pathetic. The only person who paid me any attention in school was Monroe Buford, age 17, still in the 9th grade, and who looks like a cross between Godzilla and Bigfoot. Then suddenly, my rock band got famous. Real famous. So famous, girls started coming on to us! I mean, are you freakin' kiddin' me? Even teachers were treating us nice. And all because of our song that got on radio stations all over the country. Now, me and my buds are about to play in front of 15,000 screaming fans. Life is awesome! Only one problem. We didn't write or record it. Truth is, we can barely play. Ok, I gotta go now cause I think I'm goin' to hurl. OVERNIGHT SENSATION by Hal Eisenberg (please check it out!) My first novel will go on sale this Wednesday. I've added to the bookshelf.

Alone tells the story of how a woman changes the lives of the few remaining stragglers in a plague-ridden world.

On the first day of the New Year, all across the United States, a fine, white powder permeates the air. Within seconds, those in proximity of the powder die. Six months in the disease has spread and all but less than one percentage of the planet’s population is dead.

Eve, a college junior, the baby of the family, and young adult with little to nothing to worry about, soon finds herself the leader of a slowly growing group of survivors. Can she save herself and them from starvation, from insanity, from each other? She doesn’t think so, but she is determined to try.

Join Eve as she learns how to keep her people fed, bring new life into an unsure world, and fight against those who have let the loneliness, the isolation, the emptiness destroy them

"V. C. Archerly has succeeded in putting down strong roots to cultivate this new series with characters that are not over-the-top, but have a smooth, easy feel to them. The sensual tension is magic and the high intensity hook at the end will either reel you in or send you spiraling off the ledge, either way, I give V. C. Archerly kudos for its execution!"

"My first thought - GIMME MORE!"

"This story was fantastic so far."

"This is my first time reading the work of V.C. Archerly, and I guarantee I'll be looking for more of their work. I'm totally looking forward to devouring the other books in this series!"
